Notre Dame Admission - Early Decision Announcement?

By providing information about the date/time of notification, the university is alerting interest parties about, specifically, when they should be paying attention to their email.

Long ago, I applied to Rice for an early decision. Rice’s notification day was December 15th. Because it was physical mail, there was no available way of ensuring all candidates received notification of their status at the same time, let alone the same date (unless one used FedEx, and that would only help with the date, and was expensive).

As far as I know, most people received their mail on the 15th. Some may of received it a day ealiwe, some a day later.

In these times, Rice releases notification to all candidates via email and their applications portal. in 2021, the admissions office released information on December 9th. I was not really surprised by the earlier-than-expected release of data. In today’s environment, I expect there were added precautions to avoid an unexpected delay in releasing information as a delay would also impact the regular admissions decision process.

This isn't cruel. Every applicant needs to know the results and when the decision will be available.

You're right. I just thought a simple rejection email would arrive, if it was going to be a rejection. Informing everyone that the announcement will happen in three hours feels to me like a hype-train drum-roll thing. But I guess this is a familiar formula to people these days. It was new to me. I'd prefer a simple rejection email rather than having the anxious three-hour countdown to a very specific time (6:42 PM). Kind of feels as though they're saying "GET EXCITED!! IT'S COMING!!" I mean, that's exactly what they are saying. But about 83% of applicants are about to get bad news.

They need to know. But the Admissions office can choose to minimize their disappointment with simplicity or enhance it with hype. Notre Dame is supposed to be devoted to producing graduates who will become a Force for Good. So the way you treat other people matters especially here.

You are making this into something it isn't. Colleges communicate information through portals these days where the applicant/student can access it in a secure manner.

Congratulations!

Notre Dame is definitely an elite school and it has a beautiful campus, I am sure he will love being a student there!

He made it!

The process took us by surprise this afternoon. I thought he would just receive a yea or nay email.

It still seems a bit much to announce the countdown with such fanfare. But if this is how things are done now, then I can see that my reaction would be in the minority.

It used to be a walk down to the mailbox to see if you got the thick or the thin envelope!

It's seriously rude to tell us the very PRECISE time of this discovery and then leave us all hanging this long. :rotfl2: Congratulations!

Congratulations! My son is a double-domer and absolutely loved his time there. Just married his college sweetheart, also a double-domer. They are a force for good!
