Page 3 talks about new perks. It mentions 20% lunch at ND and Chefs and 20% off both lunch and dinner at Marakesh, the last sentence of the second paragraph reads: "To recieve this perk, please present you blue Member Card."

Is this a way to not let renters get perks?????

I would rather have the ability to get perks for just being a member and not have to be staying on points at the time then the slight benefit of the value added to our rented points by the non-member getting member perks.

I say its a good move.

I just thought of a problem....what if I have guests using my points? They will no longer be eligible for DVC member perks......maybe this aint such a good move.

Talking to yourself again? Someone was asking the other day about how they could get more member cards for their party for when they split up....the answer was they didn't need to do that because the key cards say Member. You are right, if they go to needing the Member Card itself we may have some problems. If it's an either/or, it would allow DVC members (like those who live near WDW) to get the discount even when they aren't staying on-site which would be nice for them, too.

No it hasn't.

One of the explicitly list benefits of owning is that your guests ARE 100% eligible for member perks, renters are not.

edit to say that this was in retort to pmc, Pam posted whilst I was typing.

Since becoming members in 2000, we have only had to show our member (blue card) card at the Rainforest (DD) for our 10% discount. I always carry my card but my dh never carries any cards at home or on vacation (he recently just started to take a cc with him and half the time he forgets it at home). Should my dh have it with us at all times while at WDW? Do you think we might need it only for places that offer dicsounts outside of WDW? Just curious if I should dig his card out, lol. We will be going for 10 days this summer and I am sure he will be golfing with my sons and friends a nice part of the time.

Just used my 20% at Chefs de France for lunch the other day. They only asked for my room key, not my Member Card.

I also used the 20% at Chefs. I first gave them the member card, but the waiter asked for the room key/charge card instead.

To be safe I always have my cards with me. If you don't and they ask for it and you don't have it, then you shouldn't expect a discount:wave:

Shouldn't the members guest be with you to get the discount?

That's what I thought! When we have guests, they are usually staying in the same unit as we are, and we spend most of our time together. Of course, I know not everyone likes that much togetherness on vacation. :teeth:

It would be OK with me if discounts were limited to members and those who are with them at the time.

That said, I don't think the current policy (all who stay in a room paid for by points get "DVC Member" on their resort ID/room key and thus, the discounts) will change anytime soon. I suspect the time and expense to police a distinction isn't worth it to DVC. I certainly wouldn't want to pay more in dues to make sure discounts go only to members. I just don't see it as a problem worth bothering about, and apparently, neither does DVC! JMHO. YMMV.

Not only are guests traveling with you entitled to ALL DVC perks, your guests staying on your points, gifted points with no renumeration to you, are also fully entitled to DVC member perks.

Requireing the blue Member Card would not allow this to continue.

We will have to see if reports like those above, where one card is as good as the other or the wrong card was actually asked for, continue.

Think Disney has the right to put conditions on any benefit that they offer DVC members. Remember these benefits are just what they call them---- extra benefits offered to DVC members!

We were just at 9 Dragons (China) a week or so ago, and I gave them my member imprinted room key to charge to, they would not honor the 20% without my blue member card.

Our DD & her fiance are going to use our points for their honeymoon in June. I don't think we'll be with them! And since we are giving them the points as a gift, they aren't renters, they're guests.

We used this discount in Oct. When we paid, we only gave throom key which said "Members". The waiter returned and asked for the blue card. When we explained we didn't have it with us, he said "no problem" and still gave us the discount.

Your right, but, they are not with you, so why should they be entitled to your discounts? When I first rented points, I thought it was wrong to have the room card say DVC member, DVC has not idea if the stay is a gift or paid for(rented), I would be happy if they made youshow your blue card. If you really look at it, in the long run, if you can rent points, get the discounts, why buy???

That must mean they ARE taking this literally! I always have my card with on vacation, but my guests are not always with me. We once had guests make character breakfast ressies at Olivias (when they still had it), and even though they were staying in our GV with us, they did NOT get the discount. I do think they would have if I had made the ressie, but I didn't.
