Dh receivd a letter yesterday describing a security breach from BNY Mellon Shareowner Services. He doesn't recall having any shares with this company.

Has anyone else received this? I did do an internet search and couldn't really find additional information.

If it is a letter in the mail, it is legit. He may have some share or two of stock that came from a take over, like I got some Comcast stock as part of some AT&T thing about 10 years ago, and they are the record holder.

There should be a number to call to find out more.

A letter in the mail does not necessarily make it legit. Is it asking for information ? Is there a number to call for more information ? Just make sure that your hubby does not give out any info (date of birth, SS #, mother's maiden name, etc.)unless he's sure of who he is talking to.

Do you own any Disney shares? We got a letter a couple of months ago. They thought at the time that was the extent of the breach but it was on the news about two weeks ago that the breach was more extensive than first thought. This bank is a custodian of many accounts. Yours may be one.

BNY_Mellon had a security breach with the shareholder information of folks who own Disney stock, I believe.

WOW - I haven't gotten a letter yet.....I'll watch my mail for it though. Thanks for the heads up !

I got the letter too. I owned AT&T stocks but had no clue who held them now. It said my info was safe but gave me 2 years of free credit report checking with a certain company. I was also worried because to check my credit, I'd have to put in my private information.

Be sure when you call, that you get two codes to give to Experian so both of you will have credit fraud protection. With the initial letter, you only get one code. Ask for one for yourself.

My DH & I each got a letter last week. When I got it I had no idea why. But I've seen posts that it has to do with Disney stockholders; we used to own Disney stock (in an E*Trade account) a few years ago. Guess that's why we got the letters. :confused3

He owns Comcast stock but that's all handled through Fidelity. He used to own AT&T Broadband stock and UPS. I did some further research and UPS came up a lot.

It mentions being reimbursed for a credit alert on your credit report so I don't think we will pursue it even if it is legit. Fraud alerts are free.

Thanks for the info. Did anyone actually do anything with after they received the letter other than check their credit report?

Yes, we took the free offer of the credit monitoring service, which in this case is Experien. It it good for two years.

I received that letter also. I have no stock, anywhere. My husband thought it was a scam. I guess we should look further into this letter

I got one, My sister got one, my neighbor got one!

None of us have any dealing with BNY Mellon!
It's a SCAM!

Sidenote.....20 years ago I was the one in charge of BONY's Offsite Tape storage Security. So I got a kick out of that was the point of contention in the letter.:lmao:

Both dh and I got one yesterday. Don't own Disney stock so not sure the stock.
