Nothing like being put on the spot

Background info
I have 2 DSs (14&10) DS14 has a friend who has a brother who is 10. Although they live down the street and around the corner (walking distance), my DS10 and other 10yo aren't really friends but know each other from school. Other 10yo has other friends.

So the 14yo brother calls my DS14 to have him ask if DS10 can come to other 10yo birthday party. They have to know RIGHT NOW if he can come or not (party is on 2/15). If he can't, then they will invite someone else. Turns out that DSs have a dentist appt. that day. I was put on the spot to answer right then and there - no time to try and see if I could figure out a schedule change.

I looked up the party info for the place that they are having the party. It is a set price for up to 10 kids and then a $ amount for each extra kid. Its not like they could only have X amount of kids and that was it - doesn't matter if they have 1 or 10 its the same price.

Ah, but your little guy was probably the 10th - and if he wasn't coming - they wanted to get their money's worth and "fill the quota". And, if you couldn't answer right away, they didn't want to go and invite someone else on the off chance that your little guy was going because then they'd have to pay for an extra child!!! Oh no!!

Chances are somebody won't show up. We have b-day parties at the science center where I work and most weekends (we only have parties on weekends) there's at least one or two kids that don't show up for the parties. I always have to laugh when that happens. We have the same policy, up to 10 kids as included in the base price and any more are an extra fee...sometimes people just don't understand that!

Did anyone else know that Full Moon is on Friday? LOL!!!
