NOT WDW question, Kinder mommies please help me

our son starts kindergarden in 2 weeks, he will be taking the bus, but we have a box (literally) of supplies that he cannot possibly carry himself, so MH and i took the day off so we can take him to the bus then drive to the school to drop off the supplies, do you think it is crazy to take photos pretty much at the higlights, getting on the bus, going into the classroom, ect i don't wantto annoy the teachers,
but is this normal or am i being a crazy mommy?

box of supplies? well if this is a normal thing, then im sure the kindergarten teachers will have seen it all before, so thats not crazy. Taking pictures i would imagine is fine, my mom took pics of me going to nursery school etc... not all the way into the classroom though, just leaving the house. Do what you want its your kid, who cares what others think.

yeah a BOX, the list they gave us, was like 4 boxes of crayons, a box of tissues, a box of ziploc bags, a pck of glue sticks, 2dz pencils, a folder, a sleeping mat which is bigger than my son!lol

so its a small box but a box none the less!

i huess schools have changed i remeber going with just a lunch box and backpack nothing more nothing less, is this norm?

Yes, it's the norm. My son starts kindergarten on the 5th, they have a day next week to come in and meet the teacher and drop off supplies. I would definately take pictures at all the highlights, I'm going to! I plan on taking a picture on the front steps in the new school clothes with the new backpack and lunchbox. (sniff sniff), at the door of the school and in front of his new classroom. We don't do the schoolbus on the first day, I always drop them off. So on the second day I'll get bus pictures! LOL When my daughter started kindergarten, the teacher actually stood outside the classroom door to meet each child and she was offering to pose for pictures with the little ones. It was very sweet. I just know I'm going to be a mess!

i know i get teary! i had diner with him the other night and i asked him if he was scared and he said nope i'll be fine but i think you may need a tissue!

i was bawling he must think i am nutty!

Not crazy! Take tons of pics! My middle son starts K next week. When my oldest went, many parents stayed in the classroom for several minutes, getting their kids adjusted (and taking pics!). The teacher had to finally joke that it was time for mommies and daddies to leave! So you won't be the only one there. And we have big bag of supplies too. Luckily at our school, the kindergarteners start a few days after the rest of the school, and they use that time to meet individually with the the kids and we drop off supplies then.

If you're already taking the time to drive to the school, ask if your DS would rather ride with you the first day instead of the bus. I know mine would (we don't ride the bus, but he was definitely nervous that first day and wanted me close). Have fun and good luck not crying! I am not the crying type, but I cried that day!

Take TONS of pics - They grow so fast! There will be lots of picture taking parents there, believe me! My older boy is going into second grade this year - ACCCCKKK! And my baby is heading off to preschool. It is very depressing My only advice is to see if you can talk to someone whose child has started that school before --- at DSs preschool and Kindergarten parents were "left at the door" that first day. They wanted the children to start out lining up and going in on their own so that they'd have the idea from the get go. It is so hard watching your little one walk off in line by himself. But I lived through it and I'll guess I'll make it again next week. Other schools do allow parents in the classrooms that first day, but I'd try to find out what the deal is ahead of time so that you won't be surprised and disappointed. We had a "meet the teacher" and orientation night, the week before school started. We all got to go into the classrooms and get acquainted.

Everyone brought their supplies then. There were mountains of that stuff everywhere!

On the first day, we all went up to the school together.

I took a pic of the back of my DH and three kids walking down the sidewalk with the crossing gaurd and school building in the landscape. Was pretty in the early morning sun light. They had their backpacks on, and looking so cute.

I took another pic on the steps of the main entrance. The principle can be seen at the door greeting people.

I took a couple of pics of the girls in the hallway with friends.

Finally I took a pic with each child and her teacher in the doorway of their classroom.

They asked that we didn't go into the classrooms on the first day with our kindergarteners because a few of them were having separation issues. We just said our goodbyes in the hallway and sent her on in with a huge smile.

Of course we weren't the only ones with cameras. The halls were packed with folks too.

My DS started kindergarten last year. I took pictures of him (wearing that gigantic backpack!) at our front door, and pictures with each of us at the classroom door. He was fine at the outset, but I think got a bit nervous once he saw all the kids he didn't know, so wasn't too happy about posing at the school, and I didn't push it too much. I got a bit teary but managed to hold it together until he was out of sight.

The year just FLEW by, and I took every opportunity I could to bring my camera to the school for their little events. I encourage you to do the same!

Honestly, that's a pretty small list of supplies in comparison to what I've always had to buy my children (now 7 & 9). Definitely take pics! I only took pics of them standing in front of our home the 1st day of school and not in the classroom. Some teachers will take their own pics and send them to you in a Christmas card or for Mother's Day though. As for carrying the supplies, will they not have an orientation or "meet the teacher" day before school starts? We had orientation 2 days before school began and that's when everyone took in the supplies. Then the kids didn't have to drag them in on their first day.

We just had an orientation yesterday, my dd starts K on Weds.

She is really excited about the bus, even though there is NO reason i can't take her myself, i am home, and we live less than a mile from school, but she REALLY wants to go on the bus! So, i am going to take a pic of her near the bus, getting on.. and in front of our house. I am not going to the school, as i don't want to be an interruption.. or start to get upset in front of her! LOL I just gotta accept the fact that she is growing up!!!!!!
As for supplies, i can't believe they give you such a big list!! I had heard about this, and was bracing for it at orientation yesterday, but all they said she needed to bring was a backpack and a big folder (8x11) size for important papers! Thats it!! So, i guess we are lucky in that respect.
and our dd is only in 1/2 day k.

I'm a teacher, and I can say that the list of supplies sounds pretty standard, especially the tissues,etc. Kids around here don't take naps in K, so they don't need to buy nap mats. I don't think the teacher should have a problem with parents taking pictures. Trust me, we have seen and heard everything! The school should be prepared for all the moms and dads, and most teachers schedule extra "settling-in" time on the first day anyway. Just don't hang around the classroom--the kids actually do much better once the parents leave--even the ones who seem unsure or upset on such a big day.

That is a very small list of school supplies! We have to provide supplies not only for DS but for the classroom as well, including crayons, colored pencils, markers, regular pencils, sanitizing handwipes, paper towels, stickers, glue sticks, glue bottles, and more. Personal items included those items plus a backpack, pencil box and 2 folders.

When I was a kid (a million years ago!) the school supplied this kind of material, but I guess they can't afford to supply as much now. I know the teachers buy a lot of stuff out of their own pocket as well. I'm guessing that having 'classroom' crayons and pencils and such helps out those parents who can't afford to buy all the school supplies for their child.

If we were able to get a great sale price on an item, I bought extras and will bring those to the classroom as well.

Take all the pictures you want! These are memories that you won't get back, You'll be amazed in June how much he's grown!

I always take the pictures of big days in school, first day, holidays, birthdays, and then make a collage for the teacher at the end of the year!

I also took pictures on the last day of school (and of course, the kindergarten graduation), intending to scrapbook them side-by-side with the first day of school pictures. In looking at the ones from the first day, when he seemed suddenly so grown up, he now looks so sweet and innocent and chubby-cheeked.

Next week in the first grade first-day-of-school picture, he's going to look suddenly all grown up...

Take all the pictures you want. Accompany your little one to Kindergarten. Be a mom - and don't make apologies for that. Who cares what anyone thinks? You can't do the first day of Kindergarten over again next year. Kids grow up too soon, enjoy them while you can.

I didnt quote it, but someone mentioned that you might drive your son to school with you. DONT DO THAT!!!!

If the child will be a regular bus rider, it is imperative that he get on the bus that first morning so the bus driver knows who he is, where he gets off, and then the teacher will know as well.

Feel free to take pics before he gets on the bus or as he gets on and then drive to the school and take more pics. For safety reasons, it isnt a good idea to follow the bus. Just go on and wait for it at the school. I am sure you will not be the only parent who will be there taking pics. As for the supplies, feel free to take them in too. It does give you a good "excuse" to be in the classroom, if only for a few mins.
