Not to reopen that can of worms but...

Just had an a-ha moment, I think.

If you are like us, you just knew what rides FP- would be available for ... based on previous trips, etc (i.e. "After this, let's go grab a FP for TOT." Now, there's no way to *know* what will be available before going to the kiosk. So it's more like, "Let's go to the kiosk and see what's available."

Exactly. We were FP- experts. Now on our first trip with FP+, we were novices. So a bunch of us would go to the kiosks because we had no idea what would be available. And even though I understand FP+ much better now, we would still bring a few people to the kiosk, because sometimes it's not a simple decision. So FP+ kiosks are going to take a lot longer than FP- kiosks. And WDW knows that the FP+ kiosks are more complicated, because on our trip during busy times there was a CM dedicated to every single FP+ kiosk.

This post has done nothing other than affirm my desire never to go to Disney with a large group. Coordinating with a large group of people is no bueno no matter what system you're using.

I do wonder though...why not just select whatever at the kiosk and then let each member of the group use the MDE app to make changes if they don't like the initial selection?

Not everyone has a smart phone.

And sometimes people soak their smart phones in the Gulf of Mexico just before going to Disney.

Eek. We learned at Jedi Mickey that a camera can make an effective glow cube, but not so much in chocolate milk nor for very long. But other than that and $200+ for a meal for 2 adults and an 11yo, we enjoyed the play.

So did you have to rely on kiosks for the rest of your visit?

That price tag is hard to swallow. At least at CRT we paid in advance so I had almost forgotten how much it cost by the time we arrived.

Then it may take 10 seconds. If it takes 10 minutes, that is not a FP+ issue, which is my point and something that should be done away from the kiosk.

Of course people spending more time at the kiosks figuring out what to do is a FP+ issue. With old paper FP-, my family never stood in line at the BTMRR FP kiosks under the sign that said "Fastpass Return Time 4:00-5:00", then got to the front of the line and said "So do we want to get a Fastpass for Thunder Mountain?" We had already decided what we wanted to do long beforehand. With FP+ kiosks, we might want BTMRR at 4pm, and if BTMRR is there, it's quick and easy, but if return time isn't until 6pm, now there's decisions to be made, and that cannot be figured out away from the kiosk because you didn't have the information.

Didn't use any kiosks, didn't care to. And it was an actual camera anyways (not a phone)--I think they still make those.

Of course I knew the price tag going in and still did it, no one to blame but myself.

Sorry for the interruption everyone, back to the ******* and misunderstandings.

LOL. I tried to inject some humor and lighten things up..... at my own expense of course. :)

And on the up side, my camera would never fit in a glass of chocolate milk.

In the ancient times it was a breeze. One person would get the groups tickets and go get FP for everyone. No need to try and split groups to look for 3 parties of 4 or 6 parties of 2. But hey those machines were clearly too complicated.

How did you control the return time print out in legacy?

Again--what I do works for me. If it doesn't work for you. So be it.

I am just amazed that all those decisions arrived at in the old days we're done so with harmony to everyone's satisfaction without fail. It is quite impressive.

There was more harmony because there weren't as many limitations of headliner FPs. We knew that if we started with a FP for Soarin we could still get a FP for TT as well. No negotiation was necessary. And nobody in our group would be arguing over Figment versus Nemo.
