We have two trips planned this year for Disney. One this summer and one at Christmas. We still have approximately 170 points left. I am not sure what to do. We have never rented out points before, but we sure could use the money toward one of our trips. But, we could also bank the points and use them for next year also. :confused3

I think you answered your question. You have two great trips planned and you still have 170 points. You said you could use the money. If you need the cash, rent the points. If money is not as big an issue, bank them. Another option is to bring a friend or relative or give the points to someone as a gift (i.e. book their room for them).

Either way, you have two wonderful trips to look forward to. Why worry?

As far as renting goes, you can do yourself on the rent/trade board, or you could use a "professional" to help you rent. Send me a PM if you need more info on renting.

FWIW, we generally bank the extra. For the first time since we've owned, we've had extraordinary point usage and are very glad we've been rolling wave after wave of points into the following UY!

The easiest and usually the quickest way to turn points into cash is to transfer them to another member.

Once you & the other party agree on a price, it's one call to MS and then you're done. Only points that have NOT been banked or borrowed may be transferred to another members' account.

If your planning a trip for next year I'd bank the points and use them for that.

Yep. Always bank unless you know for sure you are not going in the next UY. If that is the case, you could then transfer the points to another owner.

Just a reminder that transfers for cash is against the DVC rules. Bringing it up while on the phone with MS may result in unexpected results. :thumbsup2

You could also bank them now and, if you find you are not going to use them next year, rent to someone you know. We never have a shortage of family/friends going who would gladly rent our points if we have them available. It makes it much easier for us -- I make the reservation, they send me the check.
