Checking in at BLT the day before Ash Wednesday (3/1) for a nine-day stay...in the past, we attended religious services on holidays at Polynesian in the area where they use to have Luau...Any idea of where we might receive ashes on Ash Wednesday on- property or do we need to travel off property...Thanks!

I didn't see anything either...just remember going to Easter mass at Polynesian years ago...

there are a couple of catholic churches nearby. Mary, Queen of the Universe is over near the factory outlets. Corpus Christy is in Celebration.

They have recently had masses at the Contemporary for Christmas and Easter (pre-pandemic) but for no other occasions, so you will need to arrange to get to a church off property.

I think there have only been services on property for Christmas and Easter. If you don't want to travel off property for the service, maybe talk to your priest/pastor before you travel and maybe they would give you some ashes and you could have an observance in your room or watch along if your church livestreams its service.

We have done both Corpus Christi and Mary Queen of the Universe. There was something extra homey feeling about Corpus Christi and it just seemed smaller and easier to get in and out of, like more of a locals Church, but it was really lovely all decorated for Christmas. Some questionable outfits from a few vacationers, leather hot pants and a bustier that would make Madonna blush, but still a lovely Church.

No masses on site when I checked on NYE or NYD.

Most guests I’ve encountered at Christmas Day mass at the Contemporary were wearing very expensive outfits that required changing before heading to the parks. Reminded me of that one quote about a camel fitting through the eye of a needle. There are a lot more stories about Jesus preaching to prostitutes than those who can afford $1500 per night hotel rooms.

As a non-practicing Catholic (ie born and raised, but don't go to church regularly) I've been to Corpus Christi for a wedding and agree its a nice, comfortable place. It did indeed strike me as a "locals" church. I'm very friendly with the couple that got married there 6+ years ago and they attend regularly.

If you believe you are in holy place you should cover up. If I went into a Mosque and were asked to cover my head, I wouldn't think twice. I don't think the issue is the price of the outfit. They drove away in an Infinity SUV, the issue is comporting onself with dignity in a place of worship.

When we traveled to Europe, not thinking as we stopped in a Cathedral, they asked me to cover my lower parts as I had relatively short shorts on. I was so grateful that they had a little something for me to pay for and wrap around myself so that I didn't have to go back to my hotel room and change.

I also think prostitutes are totally welcome, but they should still cover up before entering the Church.

You'll need to Uber or drive off site. There are a couple of nice churches nearby that others have mentioned. Mary, Queen of the Universe, is actually a minor basilica and national shrine. We're looking forward to going there when we visit next month. :-)
