It sounds like our long weekend trip I asked about a few weeks ago might end up west coast. I want to go somewhere new, with ocean access. So, contemplating Oregon, driving to Cannon Beach, etc. But, my assumption is mountain driving, going west from PDX, in Feb? Is weather going to be an issue? I can do snow. I can do mountains. I cannot do snowy mountains. Any opinions?

Expect clouds and rain the entire time in February. The sun will peek out occasionally, but not often.

Snow at Canon Beach is rare but does happen, if you are flying in to PDX I'd assume you'll take Highway 26 - over the Coastal Mountains you might see some snow, but you could also go up to Highway 30 and follow along the Columbia River.

I was looking at maps - hard to tell elevation at a quick glance. Are either of those treacherous ways in winter? Or is Oregon pretty mild and it would snow and then melt? Sorry, have yet to sleep since yesterday morning and am running on carrot cake cookies and Coke Zero :)

No the roads over the coastal range don't get very high in elevation. It is an easy drive even in winter. I would drive during the day though.

The Sunset Summit on US-26 is only 1500' - they keep the road in good condition, two factors would be if it's fresh snow and the other yahoos on the road pretending to be Junior Speed Racer - but those dolts are there any time. Use the Oregon TripCheck so you can see the most current road conditions.
