That's a great rate!

a former monmouth countier here! i grew up in freehold but when to RBC :)

my brother just flew airtrain from AC and it's $99 each way. it's a bit of a hike (probably about 90 minutes), but we always fly from westchester, and we usually get fares for $79 each way.

I would stay at a value resort and definately skip the dining plan. My mom and I went to Disney last year for 11 nights and did not do the dinind plan, and when we came home, we spent less than we would have on the dining plan.
We stayed at Pop Century and loved it!! Your not in the hotel a whole lot, and it has its own bus system which was great.
i think you can definately do it on a budget by going value and no dining plan. I would even skip the park hoppers which is $50 per person. We did them and only hopped one day the whole time we were there. The one thing I would splurge on, if you could, is tickets to the halloween parade. That is an awesome parade!!! And I am sure your little brother would love it!

(It's nice to see someone on here not too far from Delaware! Enjoy your vacation and what a nice thing to do for your brother!)

That is crazy. I live right at the bottom of Tower hill on Prospect. On Worthley place. Thats so crazy.

Sure, right behind Cittarella's! :woohoo: I used to walk down there all the time when I was a teenager to get subs. Is that still there? My parents moved out about 3 years ago, so I haven't been back around there since. I went to RBC, graduated in '93.

Slightly different way to save money on your trip.

Sign up for one of the rewards for clicks programs such as sunshine rewards or mypoints and use the points that you can earn to get GC for your dinners. In the amount of time you have before your trip dates you can probably earn one or two $25 GC for Landrys/Rainforest Cafe. With Mypoints, just doing the free clicks and the surveys I've earned about 2,000 points since May (about 5 - 15 minutes per day depending upon the length of the surveys). I booked my vaction thru travelocity using mypoints and earned another 800 points. The GC itself is not a ton of money but I live by the philosophy that when going budget every penny counts.

no way. i graduated in '92.

I have to say I love the PP who mentioned camping at Fort Wilderness Campground, that way you are onsite and get all the extras of being onsite. You could even order a tent and supplies from Walmart and have them delivered to the campground before you arrive (just call the resort and let them know you're having a package delivered). It is really cheap to stay there and could be a real adventure. Since you'll be there in Oct it shouldn't be too hot either. I've heard they have great bathroom and shower facilities too. I'm an avid camper however I've not yet camped at Disney, although when my youngest is a bit older I do plan to try it out there. Air mattresses are easy enough to put in a suitcase along with your clothes. Fort Wilderness also has a great place to eat at that I've heard is super cheap for what they give you (my friends stayed in a cabin once). The sites have electric and water at them plus a picnic table and charcoal grill and since you wouldn't have a vehicle you could put in a request for a site near a bus area. You can actually get more info if you are at all interested here: http://allears.net/acc/faq_fw.htm

Okay, more thoughts:
Check the Orlando Hotels subforum under the Resorts forum, for information about offsite hotels.
See golynx.com. Routes and schedules. Look for the Route 111 bus. It goes from the airport to the Magic Kingdom with numerous stops (only its four major stops are highlighted on the route map but it actually stops about every two blocks, except ON the highways).
Find an affordable and recommended property in the vicinity of the Florida Mall; or, get a map of the airport-to-Disney area and find affordable hotels along the route of the 111 bus.
The bus is $2 per person each way. If you can find a hotel along its route, and keeping in mind it will drop you at either the TTC or Downtown Disney and pick you up in the same location (so you need to allow additional transit time), that's $12 per day for transportation, no rental car or parking fees necessary! They may even have multi-day discounts.
Go to mousesavers.com and sign up for their newsletter before the fifteenth. It will contain a link to an even greater than normal discount for tickets from Undercover Tourist. Don't bother with park hoppers. Just plan carefully. You'll save 'only' about $55 per ticket, but that's over $160 total. That's several fast food meals.

My suggestion: go to the Disney World site, and fill out a mock reservation,( you can do more than one with different criteria) it will give you a total price for everything. You can compare what it would be to stay at All star Sports ( which IMOP would be great for DB13) vs the campground. You have the option of adding airfare ( we always take Amtrak though). Note though, park hoppers are the site default for tickets. And you can opt out of trip insurance to save a little more.
In the 10 + trips I've been on with friends of various age groups, we have never found need for park hoppers. We have always been able to find enough to keep us busy just going to 1 park for the whole day. Especially for first time visitors.
I'd also agree that the Halloween Party ( hard ticket event extra cost) would be well worth the money. If that were to work out, pack something to convert to a costume.. dressing up is widely encouraged AND FUN~.
We are a family of 7 so budget is the only way we vacation. Good luck and you have some lucky brothers :0)
PS Enterprise car rental doesn't charge mileage east of the mississippi.

If your dates are flexible, I would check in by Oct 3rd and get the free dining plan. Stay at the Pop or another Value and allow money for the tip. This way you will receive one table service, one counter service, and one snack per person per day. I would change my vacation days for this and this alone.

If you really are considering tent camping at the Fort you should go over to the camping board and read the trip report that was just done. It's "I've survived my first camping trip" She went tent camping w/her sis and she was flying. She seemed to have a really good time. I know she did alot of pre trip planning and might be able to help you out.

What ever you do have loads of fun with your brothers.

definitely not gonna be camping. we arent exactly a camping family. haha. but the bussing instead of driving is a good idea that i never thought of. i liek that one. and park hoppers are definitely out of teh question. i like to submerge myself in a park when i go. so every day has its own park.

I glanced at the Greyhound schedule and, although you'd save some money, it would take you a full 24 hours to go from Newark to Orlando. I think renting a car and driving or flying & renting a car when you get there would be worth the extra money.

Do you have a general budget in mind that you want to stay under?

I think he was talking about taking the LYNX from the airport instead of renting a car or taking a shuttle.

I didn't read all posts, so if this is a repeat I am sorry :) I really bet there will be a public code that covers those dates in the near future then you could stay onsite more economically.... keep watching Mousesavers. Also check Expedia and Travelocity... just in case. I hope you guys have lots of fun. I think you are a really nice guy to plan this for your fam!
