Not sure if this is the right board, but I have to ask anyhow..

i would think that if such a banning were to take place it would involve entering identifying info. into the disney computers such that the individual could not book resies for any purpose (or use credit or debit cards). i would think that the danger of someone trying to get around this would like in the prosecution for trespassing they would face if discovered on property again (and if they had another person's help in making resies, buying hoppers for them) some form of fraud charges could be brought against them (i think the hoppers say on the back where you sign that you aknowledge you are the person named on the card).

the casinos around here have their lists of banned members of the public and while the def. have the security to activly seek out and discover for ejection, it's the local p.d. who are called in to arrest and handle the charging of trespassing (and if the person is using someone elses debit/credit card) trespassing & actual or intent to defraud the bsns.

i went to highschool with a few girls who were caught shoplifting at disneyland during a school trip. they were banned from the park for a period of time (i think at least a year), and the school had to jump through hoops to keep from having to move the bus they used for transportation to the park off disney property in order to house the girls during the remainder of the time the rest of the group were in the park (disney actualy escorts you to the property line and takes car lic. numbers to prevent re-entry to their parking lots). the school ended up having to post a teacher in the bus (they did it in shifts) and get disney security to escort for bathroom runs. the school came close to receiving a ban on future group admissions.

WOW!

Did any of that hurt the girls' reputations? Or did it enhance them?

I've heard of people shoplifting before and getting banned from that store for life. So I wonder if the original post and poster meant they were banned from the stores at DTD? Or just WOD? Saying you were banned from all of WDW sounds so much more elaborate though! :thumbsup2 :lmao:
That OP said Disney property for life. I think there was more to the story then we were being led to believe.

Just seems to me the punishment doesn't fit the crime - but like I said, maybe I live my life in a vacuum - LOL.. :teeth:
I think the crime was not total disclosed to us.

Disney is private property, and if they want you off their property they can have you cited for trespassing. The notice you receive says "forever" but it can vary in actual time from one year to three years, depending on the seriousness of the crime.

I had started reading that thread the other day and must have missed the "banned from Disney" part. Wow. Can't find the original thread now, anyone know what happened to it?

There were two started by the OP (community and gay/lesbian boards) and both were closed.

The title was something like "You wanted to know so here it is..." - on the CB.

The basic jist of the story was that OP was (suposidly) told by a CM at DTD that if they put all of their intended purchases in a special bag, they could go from shop to shop w/out paying for any of it, and then pay for everything in the bag by the end of the evening. They did this and were stoped by an undercover CM who accused them of shoplifting. According to the OP, security did not listen to their story and refused to interview the CM that told them all this and gave them the special bag. The OP's signifigant other spent 2 days in jail, the charges were thrown out and the SO was not convicted of anything, but they were banned from WDW for life and the SO lost his job as a cop for the NYPD. All this happened last December, the OP said he was only posting about it now because until the charges were droped they "couldn't go public with the story". They are now "being approched by tv stations looking to do a story on the whole situation".

Let me put it this way, I'll believe it when I see it on 20/20 or Dateline.

i remember reading that thread too and dont recall them saying anything about being banned..one of them was a cop as i recall and he lost his job. darn, the thread is closed, i wanted to show my dh that post...thought it sounded a little fishy.

I'm not sure if it was the CB thread or the gay/lesbian thread where he stated he had received an actual notice from Disney informing him that he (or "they" - can't remember which) were banned for life.. :confused3

Thanks. Wow ...I can't imagine being banned for life from somewhere, let alone, the happiest place on earth. Like previous posters have said, how on earth is that truly enforcible. You could basically show up and pay cash for everything and as long as Mickey doesn't recognize you...it's all gravy. :)

Given the information that's been shared, this "ban" (if real) is bluff 101. There's absolutely no way Disney can guarantee enforcement. Even if they have the finger scans of the suppposed banned people in a database tied directly into security at every gate, the "banned' could change the shape of their fingers in three minutes with some rubber cement. Add to that the fact they can buy tickets for cash without without giving their names or providing any I.D., and Disney has no way of knowing whether these people are on their property or in their parks.

I think the issue is if (a big if) they are ever caught they could be put in jail for trespassing assuming that Disney has taken the legal steps to see that this is an option. I think they hope that would be enough to deter future visits.

Maybe "Banned for Life"is more of a scare tactic?

Why were those threads taken down?

The one on the community board the OP asked the mods to close, the second I am not sure.

That's odd. :confused3

I wonder why?

Just because it's on the "news" or a "news-like program" doesn't mean it can't and won't be sensationalized.

As for babysitting a bunch of shoplifting teens on a bus at Disney. Not going to happen. If I were chaperoning, I would have given their parents 24 hours to make other arrangements for those kids. (Only being so generous with the time because I happen to be 1000 miles from Disney.)

Here is the link to the one on the community board. It is the longer of the two.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1056084&page=1&pp=15

Here is the thread where he told us how he saw people taking things at the MK and when he tried to report it the security told him they don't have cameras. He as made that nothing was done. This was October 2005 and in December 2005 his SO got arrested for shoplifting.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=948709

Note that he removed the post, but I did read the actual post yesterday.

He seemed to want to get something from Disney for this. He also had the post on the G/L board removed. In that one he told of a NYPD cop who had the same things happen and got a large settlement. Somebody on there said they emailed his posts to Disney and that seems to be the catalist that got it removed.

BTW In his posts he says SO is NYPD, he is NYPD and he works for the Disney store. Seems very fishy here.
