Just returned from a week at WDW and I must say that DVC advertising is absolutely everywhere, ad nauseum almost. Versus our last trip 2 years ago the ads seem to be just about everywhere. Almost embarassing for them to be using the "best kept secret" tagline. DVC is seriously at risk of becoming just another over-developed timeshare IMO (don't try to convince me ROFR is our savior -- tell that to Vero folks). Not sure what others think on this, but anyone buying in to DVC citing high resale values as one of the justifications should think twice in my opinion. I think the glut of resales will only continue to grow.

If prices take a beating, then that might influence my decision to buy a cheaper contract over waiting for Kingdom Tower to be built. :confused3

DVC is definitely NOT a secret.

::yes:: ::yes::
That's what I was thinking last time we were there this fall. "Best kept secret"-I don't think so w/all the ads EVERYWHERE

That's kinda scary actually -

When we were there in 2006 the 4 of us adults had decided that a DVC drinking game (see DVC advertised - drink something) while a cool idea, would leave most people incapcited before arriving at the park....

And you say it's gotten worse.....

DVC is a successful business that has grown well in around 16 Years. When we joined 9 years ago there was only Old Key West or Boardwalk in the Disney World area. If they'd kept it too much of a secret they would have gone broke !

Phil :)

I feel the same. I want to buy into KT for my Mom, but its tempting to buy at cheap contract at SSR that I know she would equaly enjoy vacationing at.

I agree that its not a "secret" anymore. I think it should be "Disney's Best non kept secret" because I love my DVC!

Not to mention they're running commercials on A&E and the various Discovery channels, along with "best kept secret" line.

well said.

dvc has always advertised.

that is nothing new. I have always been surprised by the amount of people who say they never heard of before such, such date.

It has always been in all the parks and resorts - plus on TV. but yes then they generally did most of their advertising at WDW. even then a commerical would appear about DVC - generally on ABC or travel channel.

now that is in Ala - guessing up north - because most of the WDW guests come from up there - they advertise more?

florida (when staying offsite) definitely have more Ads for DVC than Ala did.

family. I live in Ohio and everyone I tell about Disney Vacation Club gives me the deer in the headlights blank stare. It's still a secret, just not to the owners.

As a previous poster mentioned, the more they sell, the more they'll build and the more quality choices we'll have. I for one don't mind spreading the word.

We've all to renember that this board represents what are porobably the most "hard core" Disney vacationers there are.

As a kid my family went to Disney a few times, and as an adult, my girldfriend/wife have gone many times; Disneyland and Disneyland TOKYO also.

Since our oldest turned 5 we have gone at least once a year for the past 5 years, and have cruised on the MAGIC for 7 days for the past two years. We are a solid WDW family.

BUT,,with that being said, we have ALWAYS avoided the DVC kiosks like the plague. "We don't need any time share, do we sweetie?!"

On this last cruise, Mardi Gras this year, we decided to killl some time and attended a DVC presentation. HOLY ****SKI, how could we have missed this opportunity for all of these years!?

The cruises were nice, but if I had my choice, I would want the money back to have spent it on DVC and still and still been able to trade some points for a partial cruise and then some for the next 34+ years.

So, to sum this up I truely believe that there are plenty Disney fans who still don't understand the saving of DVC . Unfortunately, we are two of them!!

Better late than never.

That definitely does seem true when you're at WDW or now even DL - but there are still a LOT of people that simply have no clue about it. I get lots of blank stares, deer in the headlights is a good example as mentioned above - from so many people that have absolutely no clue that DVC even exists - people IMO that simply don't get the Disney mystique. All of us on this board seem to get it - but 120K/350K (or whatever it currently is) members vs. the many, many millions that pass through Disney properties worldwide each year is still really quite small. Granted, DVC has seen phenomenal growth in 16 years to the envy of many businesses, but still a small share of the timeshare market. The few people that I have talked to that do "get it" either don't want to buy in because they're too "cool" for Disney, of they simply say, "I/we already have a timeshare".

Actually, I think we (members) see the ads but others kinda glaze over it and move on. I get asked more about what it is when I am at Disney than anywhere else. And a lot of people that I meet in line for a ride have no idea about it and they are in the middle of Disneyworld! So-I do think the majority of people really have no idea, We look for the ads...others see them and don't pay any attention.
