NOT SO SHORT MOSTLY SWEET-24 DAYS AT DISNEY/pics added, some mine

WHO WE ARE / 73 year old dh(Lord and Master hereafter referred to as L&M) who retired 7 years ago and has spent every minute since making sure his behind does not actually leave a solid surface and has been diagnosed with diseases that reflect that life choice. :confused3

59 year old ME who is a Jill of all trades and master of none and is in charge of all things possible and impossible. DH’s favorite thing about any vacation is the food, just the food. My favorite thing is the people and all their stories and going off my low carb diet a bit. I stretch dollars (as well as pennies) to the max in order to be able to afford the finer things in life to which he has become accustomed.. Much of this is accomplished by me doing things that would be best left to professionals but they charge money for those services so I am overly tired most of the time and use my sense of humor to keep from doing bodily harm to a certain someone, who shall remain nameless.

We have been married for over 35 years and for the first decade or two I was forbidden to drive or many other things. I snuck out and learned, to his great dismay. I also have slowly worked my way through the list of ‘forbidden things’ and have recently completed the last thing on the list even though it was not even anything I really wanted to do (keep your mind out of the gutter folks, I am not that interesting at all) and am likely to take any potential future lists and put them where photosynthesis is unlikely to occur. :cool1:

Thankfully I grew up to be an ornery cuss cause we would be in deep doo doo if I had not since L&M no longer drives (thankfully, for all your sakes) and has gladly handed over all life duties to myself so that he does not have to stress himself out. Since he had started doing so many decades ago there were not that many life duties left that he was performing himself anyway. He is hoping for a breathing machine (a possibility) one day to complete his life's ambition. If you should run into us feel free to ask L&M his take on stress and the evils of condo living where you are forced to pay a monthly fee for the things that I provide so well for room and board. I, myself, am an anal retentive nutcase who insists that things be in their proper place and I do Disney agendas with the best of them , down to what clothes to wear what day. Makes for an interesting life and never boring. :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

L&M spent the first two years of retirement laying in bed, the next two on the couch (cause I would not allow him to lay in the bed) and since being evicted from the couch he now lives his life in the kitchen sitting at the table watching TV and reading. I bought him an office chair to keep him from tearing the floor up while going from the table to the fridge (next to the table). Gives a perfect example of ‘Hell on Wheels”. :cool1:

As a result of this lack of activity and past bad habits he was diagnosed with a couple of life threatening diseases last year and as we left the doctor’s office he said his ‘last request’ was to go to DW. Being a woman with a reasonably sound mind I told him that if he had a hang nail he would have the same request and promptly went home and started searching for a room at the Inn, any Disney Inn. Since it was Christmas time the only room that could be found was nearly $600 a nite. I consulted with the doctor and we made the decision that he was not THAT sick. I then started watching the DIS boards and managed to snag the 40% off rate for this December and then the Free Dining offer came up so I booked us for that also. That is how we got to this point in our lives and who we, flawed, people are.

I may not be able to offer advice to those young, fit Park Commandos who have not yet had to balance a fixed income but if you are a bit on the cheap side and not inclined to rush through life willy nilly this might be right up your alley. However if you are young, not yet married and think you are desperate to do so you might read this as a cautionary tale on the dangers of ‘mixed’ marriages. It is good to have something in common even if it is both being members of the same race, human that is. :rotfl:

Slightly Goofy (and now you know why) :cool1:

09/07/07 After nearly wearing myself to a nub trying to get ready I finally gave up the ghost and just threw everything in the house in every suitcase I could find, drug them to the car and we left a day earlier than we had planned just so I could not possibly find one more thing that needed to be done. I did not even dust the house before I left. Horrors!! :scared1: I never let the fact that the dust will have reappeared in spite of predusting come between me and any common sense. It is the German in me. :rotfl:

The last trip down we had to take a detour to 64 and Lexington instead of going through Louisville and for some reason my memory told me that was the better way. It did not seem so this trip however. :scared: We had to make a small side trip, to Wal Mart of course, to pick up a jacket and some sunglasses for dh who had forgotten them both. Since those were his soul contribution to getting ready it was a bit disappointing but after 35 years of marriage and experience not at all unexpected. A lunch at Cracker Barrel started the day off well. I instantly gained 5 pounds this meal alone. The only bad part about a low carb diet is the fact that if you veer off course slightly you gain greatly, I had nearly a month ahead of me and all that park walking to do so I decided to ‘think about it tomorrow:. :wizard: I drove 400 miles that day and was very grateful that I had left a day early as that meant I could shut down for the night in Athens, Tn. The Shoney’s had a fish buffet that evening which pleased the Lord and Master and disgusted me enough that it was easy enough to avoid overeating. The motel was not cheap nor good but when unconscious one does not mind overly much. I managed one or two emails on my laptop before collapsing into a heap.

09/08/07 Up early and back on the road. I am not a morning breakfast person and since I am in charge of it ALL I make the decisions. Might have something to do with the fact that L&M tends to spend two or more hours at each meal and being that there are only 24 hours in a day I keep it to two meals and a couple of snacks a day in order to get in something other than food on vacation. popcorn:: At home he sits next to the refrigerator and if the food items are in the front and do not require reaching behind anything he is able to feed himself, occasionally. Brand spanking new Golden Coral at Cordele, Ga made my day. Price was right and the food really, really good. We eat at ours back home all the time. I just love watching the food being prepared cause I am extremely picky about clean. German, ya know? ;) A reasonably priced motel (Days Inn @ Valdosta) was comfortable and close to food. I am directionally challenged and finding a motel within eyeshot of food is a must if I am ever to find my way back to said motel. Since I was able to garner one of those cheap Garmins at Wal Mart yesterday I am looking forward to being able to find my way to new places so watch out or I may show up in YOUR area one of these fine days, whether on purpose or not!!:rotfl:

This is the last of the boring, getting ready and getting there stuff. The next reports will tell of food, lovely food, people, beautiful people and odd things that happened along the way. I am a magnet for odd things. :rolleyes1

There WILL be pictures, lots of pictures when I get to the nitty gritty.

Slightly Goofy, and apt to stay that way aka Linda

Hi,
I see in your signature you are planning at least 2 more trips. You will love the Flower and Garden Show.

Do you still work yet?

OhMari, I have a large jar just filled to the brim with old room keys. This trip will be our 25th and many of our trips required more than one ressie so I have a gob of keys.

We love the Flower and Garden Show the best of all except for the Christmas decorations. The concerts in the Spring and Fall are big for me as my father did not appreciate rock n roll and I have a lot to catch up with. :thumbsup2

Now does it look like I have time to work at paying job? Taking care of my husband is a full time job. Granted it seems that he has a form of adult autism but even though I have researched it to a fare the well I see nothing in the description that says a person with that affliction cannot do any work. I fit in a life around his. I am lucky enough to live in a small town where I can leave him alone for periods of time, if it is a good day, and so I have volunteered for many years. The longest and most rewarding is that I am the 'Reading Lady" and have taught a couple of generations, so far, to love books and to read. It is the joy of my life, kids. I am a former 4-H leader as well.

It appears that you are an avid Disney lover as well. Maybe our paths have crossed along the line or may, in the future??:wizard:

Merry Christmas to you and yours and many happy returns, to Disney, where else??:woohoo:

Slightly Goofy/Linda

Hi, I was just wondering how you fit such a long vacation into your work plans.

Thanks for the Holiday Greetings. I've been to WDW 3, yes only 3 times. We just got a promo in the mail today for DVC, my dh is really considering it. But he would rather buy from previously owned DVC'er. He thinks WDW wants to much now. Sometimes I think all dh act a little strange, especially when it comes to housework. Have a tv and recliner and my dh doesn't move from Friday nite till Monday morning.

So you all are fans of dysfunctional marriages huh? I prefer DISfunctional ones myself. :rotfl:

ralphie and Brat, glad to have you along for the ride. I met so many great people along the way and they all had stories. Doesn't everyone??

OhMari, I understand the question now. Nope, one of the no no's on THE LIST was that I was not allowed to work outside the home. Heck for several years I lived so far back in the boondocks that they had to ship in sunlight once in awhile. A woman who can drive AND has her own money?? That could be a mighty dangerous combination. A slave, I mean wife, could buy her freedom and run off leaving L&M without his usual supply of undies, food and all sorts of other creature comforts and that would be a very bad thing. :rotfl: Limits stiffle some folks while others find sneaky ways to cope. Give me hard times and I will rise to the occasion. I thrive on adversity and I have thriven a whole bunch. :thumbsup2

Disney World is pure heaven. I get to sleep until I feel like waking up, someone else makes my bed, someone else cooks my food. I go where I want and do what I want when I want. Hey, I live just like my L&M does his whole life!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

One of the lines in the research on dh's problem says that the spouse of a person with that particular disease cannot explain to anyone else what it is like to live with since others think of their own situation which is nothing at all like what folks like me go through. Think autism, but not in a small cute package, with the constant strain of waiting and watching for the 'outburst' which will come and no one knows when or where and SOMEONE has to be alert to the small signs and nip them in the bud while those around her think that she is off her rocker. Left to his own devices could be very dangerous. Disney World is a perfect environment as Disney folks are kind and forgiving. Las Vegas, where they have a carry law, is NOT a good place.

One of his fellow bowlers threatened him with dropping a bowling ball on his foot so he was able to comprehend that if he pushed that particular lady out of the way again it would be HIS foot that ached so he does not do it to her anymore but the other meek folks are still in danger. A level of comprehension is possible but it cannot be couched in polite language. Perplexing.

Of course, I, myself have no foibles and like Mary Poppins am 'practically perfect' in every way.:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

If I am going through all this, in my lame, deaf and COPD condition I am staying as long as the budget allows. The scariest ride I take at Disney World is the ride through Atlanta. :scared:

Back to work for me. I fit it in between emails and other more important things.

Slightly Goofy and on the edge of insanity/Linda

Hi Linda thanks for linking me, haven't read yet but I know it'll be good :goodvibes

WOW!!! 24 days? 24 days of no cooking or cleaning? Sounds like a dream.

Can't wait to read all about your trip!

Howdy folks!

After I get L&M's lunch in front of him I have to work in the yard doing the last of the EOY work so that next spring it will be an easier job. Can someone please tell me how unloading two truckloads of mulch, by myself, can NOT cause a weight loss? It is perplexing and frustrating. L&M skips his second dessert and loses ten pounds. Life is so unfair!!:rotfl2:

I promise tonight, while I listen to 60 Minutes, I will post another episode and this time there will be Disney details and pictures. I downloaded and uploaded a gob last night in between loads of laundry. Always thinking of others, that is me. :rotfl: Actually any excuse to sit down for a minute works for ME.

See you later, new friends and old, SG/Linda

I'm in! You're crackin me up! I especially love the picture of your hand on Goofy's butt!:lmao: Am I the only one who noticed?:confused3 Glad I found your report. Looks like you're going back in a couple of weeks? We leave the 8th so pack in those installments for me!

Poohtigeey, Gee, I never even noticed where my hand was. Since L&M has no butt I could not grab his. Besides it would make him far too happy. :rotfl: I am now soooo glad I used that picture for our Christmas card last year. Of course, those who know me well would not be one bit surprised. :thumbsup2

winkers, flattery from one of the best Trippers that I always read?? I shall swoon, I swear I will!! :dance3:

I am off to install pictures and a few bon mots for my next installment as it is raining and my mowing and raking is done for the day. :cheer2:

See you all in a bit, SG

Thanks for the weather update. We're in Ohio, so whatever you get, we get!:) I'm probably the only one who noticed the Goofy butt grab! Doesn't say much for me, huh?:confused3

All caught up now Linda and 24days wow I thought we had a long time with 14 days! Thos TR will take you forever, I'm almost finished mine after 3 months :rotfl2:

09/09/07 Being so close to DW gave us the strength to tear ourselves from our beds and hit the road. I bless the powers that be for the new Western Way exit as well as t he wonderful person who posted the simple directions on how to get to it from this side of the toll road. It is not well marked and I would have missed it without your help. TY, TY!!!
I got us checked in while L&M watched the cartoons from his seat. Upon leaving the desk I found that the CM had put us on the 3rd floor back in spite of my cane, which was in plain sight. I returned and got someone else who was very kind and upon understanding that I did not care about beds, bathroom configurations, noise or view and only NEEDED a first floor near the bus stop and parking lot got us the nearly perfect room.
RebelwithoutPause
TOUCHDOWN Room 7109 The vouchers for free golf and extra time with the Sea Raycers went unredeemed as I never did find anyone who was interested in them. The Planet Hollywood vouchers might come in handy when we return in December though as we will not have Free Dining then. Why do they often give us such worthless extras?? How about a free refillable cup or something really useful?

The room was even freshly renovated and I think we might have been the first people to inhabit the premises.
TomAllStarsrenovatedroom2007.jpg
The colors were toned down from previously. I loved the classy look of the wood and faux oyster(?) headboard. The storage unit was much smaller than the older version which worked fine for us. A refrigerator was provided for free, they know me there and are beyond kind. They just might be telling me that they prefer I stay in the room and out of their hair though. :rotfl: The chairs had some padding which was a nice touch and the curved shower curtain rod in the bathroom was very nice. A few extra inches make a difference. :thumbsup2 At 5 pm we caught a bus for MK and sauntered onto the monorail to the resorts. Can someone answer me this? Is it possible for small children to fall between the widely spaced bars on the upper level? :scared1: A couple of kids scared me to death and I finally spoke up cause I could not bear the thought of them getting hurt and got some strange looks from folks. We rode the resort monorail

about 3 times round enjoying the views until we got off at the Poly for our reservations at O’Hana’s. Our server was Leo and he was very good. Not at all snooty, very professional and we never lacked for something to drink. I miss the huge shrimp on the sticks.
OHanaskewers.jpg
That was the only thing I would go back there for OP. Our server told us that the scalloped potatoes lost something in taking away the transfats.
OHanasMauiScallopedPotatoes.jpg
They did not look that great to me and I kept to my low carb diet that meal. No bread was offered. That is the epitome of cheap to me. It was fun watching the children hula hoop and such. A family that we had met while waiting was seated near us. I had talked to the teenage girl quite a bit and learned that she was homeschooled. I have grandkids who are homeschooled and feel that you can get as good (or bad) education that way as you can in public school so I am not biased however – she told me that she liked home schooling because they taught so many WRONG things in public school. Did you all know that there is no way that the Earth can be older than 2,000 years old????? I listened to some of that enlightening information with great amazement, also remembering the false facts that I had been taught in my school ;years which has since been disproved and knowing that many of the facts of today will someday be refuted as well. The girl was playing with her blue light up ice cube at dinner and I was teasing her that when she put it in her mouth I could see the light coming out of her ears. She believed it to be true!!!

After our meal and interesting interaction we wandered down the beach where I found quite a few folks waiting for Wishes and EWP.
ewp.jpg
Usually we are the only people on the beach so I was a bit concerned as I would not take seats from the Poly guests however as it came closer to time and there were still seats available we sat down and got ready to enjoy. Turns out that ALL of the other folks were from the Value Resorts as well and were doing a Grand Gathering. I had a nice conversation with the mother of the family. She was very interesting and had had a wonderful life. I think the one who planned all of this had to be a DISer but I never got to talk to her. She was busy telling everyone what they were going to do the next day. Lucky folks to have had someone like that to lead them.

09/10/97 This was a MK day and after taking a few more things from the car. I unload pretty much by myself and if I do it all in one day I could well end up in the hospital for the rest of my vacation so I pace myself. Guest Services had the most delightful young man in my window and he and I became fast friends We were having so much fun performing our comedy acts for each other that it was a lucky thing that no one else was in line. He gave me a stack of coupons for FP and free drinks. It was hard to tear myself away. I wanted to take that kid home with me. We stopped at town hall to get my GAC (the better to survive with) and pick up the park schedules to make sure that Steve Soares was on target. We ate at the Plaza,
Plazaentrance.jpg
for our very first time. The food was quite good and we had great companions on either side to converse with. I loved the Tomato Bisque Soup and L&M’s favorite was the banana split.
PlazaBananaSplit.jpg
We had the Cheese Steak and Reuben sandwiches as well. I ate a bite or two of the Apple Pie Ala Mode but sweets are not really my thing. Next time I am going to try that Chicken Strawberry Salad. I saw one and it was big enough to share with a crowd!! Tomorrowland was our chosen area for the day. No more wandering the whole park in one day for me anymore. WE did CoP,
COPAct1.jpg
Buzz (I won and drove),and stayed on Transit Authority three times in a row. Something about helping a lame woman on and off a ride seems to make the CM’s amenable to such kindnesses. I would never ask for such if there were a crowd though. We hopped onto IASW, http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u219/RebelwithoutPause/DWMKIASWRide.jpgin honor of one of my dear EWP Suite pals before heading for the train station to ride around the parks until time to get off at the Train Station to grab our seats for Spectro. FYI, the EWP Suite has been together for over six years on the DIS. We are a small but close knit special friends. A couple of Mickey bars kept us company until similarly afflicted folks showed up to entertain me or me them. :cool1: It started to pour and all hopes of a delightful parade were extinguished. As sad as that made me I feel so much more sorry for those folks who are only there for a couple of days and do not have more opportunities in front of them as we do. Slogging through the rain at MK is not the most fun thing in the world but slog we did to the buses. Sitting on the bus, dripping wet, magic happened. :wizard: I heard a small voice behind me singing ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame” which happens to be a song one of my grandkids sings. I engaged him in some conversation and found that along with being a sports star he was also a reader. I was so touched that I took off my bracelet and gave it to him. It says ‘read’ in 7 different languages. It is something that I and my Community Center readers share as I gave them all bracelets for Christmas last year. He loved it and I hope he continues his path in life. Delightful young man.

We were forced to eat at the Food Court as I was not about to get out in the rain once again. Hamburgers and brownies with two chocolate milks to put in the fridge for L&M to have for midnight snacks.
SportsMenuBoard.jpg

BTW, am I the only one who misses this sign at IASW???

Just a wonderin' and still Slightly Goofy
