NOT SO SHORT MOSTLY SWEET-24 DAYS AT DISNEY/pics added, some mine
WHO WE ARE / 73 year old dh(Lord and Master hereafter referred to as L&M) who retired 7 years ago and has spent every minute since making sure his behind does not actually leave a solid surface and has been diagnosed with diseases that reflect that life choice.
59 year old ME who is a Jill of all trades and master of none and is in charge of all things possible and impossible. DH’s favorite thing about any vacation is the food, just the food. My favorite thing is the people and all their stories and going off my low carb diet a bit. I stretch dollars (as well as pennies) to the max in order to be able to afford the finer things in life to which he has become accustomed.. Much of this is accomplished by me doing things that would be best left to professionals but they charge money for those services so I am overly tired most of the time and use my sense of humor to keep from doing bodily harm to a certain someone, who shall remain nameless.
We have been married for over 35 years and for the first decade or two I was forbidden to drive or many other things. I snuck out and learned, to his great dismay. I also have slowly worked my way through the list of ‘forbidden things’ and have recently completed the last thing on the list even though it was not even anything I really wanted to do (keep your mind out of the gutter folks, I am not that interesting at all) and am likely to take any potential future lists and put them where photosynthesis is unlikely to occur.
Thankfully I grew up to be an ornery cuss cause we would be in deep doo doo if I had not since L&M no longer drives (thankfully, for all your sakes) and has gladly handed over all life duties to myself so that he does not have to stress himself out. Since he had started doing so many decades ago there were not that many life duties left that he was performing himself anyway. He is hoping for a breathing machine (a possibility) one day to complete his life's ambition. If you should run into us feel free to ask L&M his take on stress and the evils of condo living where you are forced to pay a monthly fee for the things that I provide so well for room and board. I, myself, am an anal retentive nutcase who insists that things be in their proper place and I do Disney agendas with the best of them , down to what clothes to wear what day. Makes for an interesting life and never boring.
L&M spent the first two years of retirement laying in bed, the next two on the couch (cause I would not allow him to lay in the bed) and since being evicted from the couch he now lives his life in the kitchen sitting at the table watching TV and reading. I bought him an office chair to keep him from tearing the floor up while going from the table to the fridge (next to the table). Gives a perfect example of ‘Hell on Wheels”.
As a result of this lack of activity and past bad habits he was diagnosed with a couple of life threatening diseases last year and as we left the doctor’s office he said his ‘last request’ was to go to DW. Being a woman with a reasonably sound mind I told him that if he had a hang nail he would have the same request and promptly went home and started searching for a room at the Inn, any Disney Inn. Since it was Christmas time the only room that could be found was nearly $600 a nite. I consulted with the doctor and we made the decision that he was not THAT sick. I then started watching the DIS boards and managed to snag the 40% off rate for this December and then the Free Dining offer came up so I booked us for that also. That is how we got to this point in our lives and who we, flawed, people are.
I may not be able to offer advice to those young, fit Park Commandos who have not yet had to balance a fixed income but if you are a bit on the cheap side and not inclined to rush through life willy nilly this might be right up your alley. However if you are young, not yet married and think you are desperate to do so you might read this as a cautionary tale on the dangers of ‘mixed’ marriages. It is good to have something in common even if it is both being members of the same race, human that is.

I never let the fact that the dust will have reappeared in spite of predusting come between me and any common sense. It is the German in me.
We had to make a small side trip, to Wal Mart of course, to pick up a jacket and some sunglasses for dh who had forgotten them both. Since those were his soul contribution to getting ready it was a bit disappointing but after 35 years of marriage and experience not at all unexpected. A lunch at Cracker Barrel started the day off well. I instantly gained 5 pounds this meal alone. The only bad part about a low carb diet is the fact that if you veer off course slightly you gain greatly, I had nearly a month ahead of me and all that park walking to do so I decided to think about it tomorrow:.
I drove 400 miles that day and was very grateful that I had left a day early as that meant I could shut down for the night in Athens, Tn. The Shoneys had a fish buffet that evening which pleased the Lord and Master and disgusted me enough that it was easy enough to avoid overeating. The motel was not cheap nor good but when unconscious one does not mind overly much. I managed one or two emails on my laptop before collapsing into a heap.
At home he sits next to the refrigerator and if the food items are in the front and do not require reaching behind anything he is able to feed himself, occasionally. Brand spanking new Golden Coral at Cordele, Ga made my day. Price was right and the food really, really good. We eat at ours back home all the time. I just love watching the food being prepared cause I am extremely picky about clean. German, ya know?
A reasonably priced motel (Days Inn @ Valdosta) was comfortable and close to food. I am directionally challenged and finding a motel within eyeshot of food is a must if I am ever to find my way back to said motel. Since I was able to garner one of those cheap Garmins at Wal Mart yesterday I am looking forward to being able to find my way to new places so watch out or I may show up in YOUR area one of these fine days, whether on purpose or not!!

Am I the only one who noticed?
As sad as that made me I feel so much more sorry for those folks who are only there for a couple of days and do not have more opportunities in front of them as we do. Slogging through the rain at MK is not the most fun thing in the world but slog we did to the buses. Sitting on the bus, dripping wet, magic happened.
