I am just going to jump right in, you should know who the cast is by now.
Part Five, Epcot. In which we sample a little wine and wander around aimlessly looking for more.
When I left off Sophia and I were killing time waiting to wake the boys up.
Ok so we have used up as much time as possible, we need to go wake up the boys. The Food and Wine festival is waiting. I think it was around 10 am when we woke Max and Dad up, maybe 10:30. Max was bummed because he missed breakfast and had to eat a hot dog instead. If anyone had told me that Max wanted breakfast food I could have made a run for it, but no one said anything until it was too late. Oh wait, I am supposed to be omniscient, I forgot. Silly Mommy.
Max is one of those people that never speaks up for himself, well never may be too strong of a word. It is possible I sometimes use hyperbole. You could be standing on his toe, and he would just wait and hope you moved soon. Sometimes I feel like he gets the short end of the stick because of this. His sister is a master at asking for (er, umm, demanding) what she wants or at least crying until you figure out what she wants. Well, actually she only uses these hard ball negotiation tactics with her family. At school she lets everyone walk all over her, and then cries about it when she thinks over things at home.
She comes by this rather naturally, both Steve and I hate to put anyone out. That may be putting a sugar coating on it. I will donate something I can not use instead of returning it. That is not because I am a really nice person, it is because I am too wussie to ask for a return credit. I like to think I am also a nice person, but I have to admit the donating things because I dont like to do returns is more neurosis's than niceness.
So around 11 am we get Max a hot dog and fries and a dessert of some sort and an iced tea. He loves iced tea. I know we got a dessert because we are on the dining plan. It was free- will I never learn, nothing is ever free. But I will get to the part where we bleed money later (maybe). Max is a slow eater. We dont get to Epcot till past noon. We decide to grab a set of Fast Passes for Soaring (which is Soaring over California, but they left off part of the title here in Florida). Sophia has stated the goal of riding Soaring at least three times this trip.
Our FP return time is 5:30, I wanted to be in the Magic Kingdom by then. But my husband, Steve(n), says the standby line is only 30 minutes. So as soon as Max and Sophia finish up their kidcot leafs with bugs on them and get their passport type thingie (much nicer than the masks to attach charms to as they can wear it) we get in line. I could describe the thingie better, but really I dont care to.
That was NOT a thirty minute line. It was a forty minute line. It was also the longest line we waited in the entire trip. I like the line better in California, with all the cool old aviation stuff. Waiting in line for your first ride of the trip is kinda fun. We are giddy, and excited, and full of anticipation. The kids are being nice to each other. Nobody is grouchy or complaining about waiting. and waiting. and waiting. But we did get to ride it, and without even having to ask, the person putting us in line sent us to the next bay so we could sit in the front row! It was some well timed Pixie Dust. Thanks Tink. Front row rocks! We were front and center and it was even more fun than we remembered.
From Soaring we made a bee line for the Food and WINE Festival. Our (my) plan had been to have a late lunch and to relax in the glory that is the World Showcase for awhile and then to Jump over to the Magic Kingdom well before the start of the
MNSSHP. We sampled some wine, and some more wine, and we sampled some food, we strolled over to Canada and commiserated with the CMs there about the heat. Sophia declared she was Canadian (She was born in Canada, but I think we would have had to do something special to ge her dual citizenship) and we had a nice chat about the fall colors up in Nova Scotia. This is a World showcase tradition for us. We also made our first pin trade of the trip. Steve(n) traded for a British Flag Mickey Head pin with a CM in Canada. Pin trading is a great.
Then the kids went over to the kidcot station and someone gave them a mask before I could stop them. So we tried to hurry them along (to no avail). Had we been thinking straight one of us could have made a wine run while they colored. A missed opportunity. Live and learn. We were busy trying to catch a bit of the a/c that came out the doors every time the circle vision movie let out. I think the heat was effecting our ability to think. I am still a little sad over the missed wine opp.
I love the World Showcase. We all do. Neat things to see, nice people to talk to, WINE to walk around with, yummy food to eat, and lots of space. No sharing of personal body space required (most of the time, and while waiting in line to buy wine it is more acceptable, somehow). I love
Disneyland. You might have already guessed that, but I am happy to admit it right out in the open. But Disneyland has nothing that can compare to the World Showcase. Sure Garden Grove has some great Vietnamese food, and there is the Hare-Krishna buffet in Laguna, and China town in LA, but really none of this compares to the World Showcase. California has strictly enforced open container laws, after all. Plus no talking trash cans. So what I am getting at, is that we love the World Showcase. Enough said.
Except that the only thing better than the World Showcase is the World Showcase and a glass of wine. I really loved the F&WF.
On our way out of Canada we stopped for some more samples (wine and kiwi roll from Australia) and caught part of Off Kilters show. I have seen lots of posts about how good they are, or how fun their show is. All true from what I saw and heard, but I didnt recall anyone saying how gorgeous these guys are. What a cutie that lead singer guy is. Sorry if you are my child reading this many years from when it was written. I meant to edit that last part out on the copy I printed for the scrapbook. If I did my job well you can afford the therapy. While I am talking to my future adult children, might I suggest you bring your parents to WDW as a way of thanking them for being your parents? Really, you know we could have gone to WDW a lot more often if we had not paid for college and all those dental bills. Think about it, that is all I ask.
Back to the trip report, We were getting a bit peckish so we got the kids some fish and chips. Well really I think it was Max that needed food. I think we found one thing allergy boy could eat at the booths. The dessert here was a package of shortbread cookies. No other choices. Oh well. it was free after all. The kids ate the fish and chips and we moved on. We skipped a few countries and headed straight for Morocco. We only stopped for wine. Priorities people, it is all about priorities when at WDW. We ate at the Tangerine Cafe, one of the best vegetarian meals in the World. Yummy. Yes the dining plan makes you get baklava as your dessert here. Twist my arm, and make me eat baklava. It is a huge piece of sweet yumminess. I'll suffer through it.
After that we jumped onto the Friendship boat and headed out of the park. We had a Halloween Party to get to. We did stop and give away our fast passes on the way out. It took us awhile to find a group small enough. I thought four was a very average sized group, but it turns out most of the people we saw were in groups much larger than that. Also we were sort of worried people would not know what it was we were doing. But we managed to find a nice group of four young adults who seemed to understand what a Fast Pass was and how to use them. Or else they were just being nice to the strange lady.
