Not-so-great POP experience

I just returned from a 5 night stay at the POP 2/3-2/8. I requested ground floor room preferred and got my request, yea! Right next to parking lot was great :)

Room appeared clean upon first inspection, no bed bugs, no bathroom floor pubic hair, no tub mold. After removing the comforter (yuck) I noticed stains on the white underside of bed cover. OK, no great big deal as I had no intention of using it anyway.

After quick unpacking, we headed to food court to eat and then explore resort. Upon returning to the room, I used the restroom where I discovered the big "yuck".

What I assume to be poop was smeared on the toilet paper dispenser and wall  While I am reeling in disgust from this, my daughter shouts to me there is a roach on the wall. OK, I'm from the south and am familiar with palmetto bugs, no problem, they happen. This, however, was a real roach. I killed it after a quick photography session ;) I didn't alert any staff to either problem, just cleaned the TP dispenser and exterminated the roach.

Beds were saggy and worn out feeling, but I do prefer a firm bed, so just a matter of personal preference.

Positives: Mousekeeping was good; clean room every evening. Prompt service when requesting towels and additional clothes hangers. Food court food was tasty and not too crowded. Grounds were quite lovely and well kept. Front desk courteous when I locked myself out of the room TWICE!

I would stay here again, I'm sure the good more often outweighs the bad, we just had an unfortunate experience. I still prefer ASMu due to smaller resort size and firmer beds.

What story wouldn't be complete w/o photos?

Wow! You're better than me! I'd have called the Front Desk about the bathroom immediately. And before anyone gets their neck hairs up about the fact that maybe someone came in and used the bathroom after Mousekeeping cleaned it...I sincerely doubt it. That is completely unacceptable and you were amazing to deal with it yourself. The roach, I would've stepped and flushed ;)

Holy crap! (sorry, couldn't resist), but seriously that is gross and I would have totally made a complaint about the poo; that is just unacceptable.

The poop looks like rust to me. And I know poop, I'm a critical care nurse. My patients generally need complete assistance in this area. If it is poop, the roach still freaks me out more! But I have an irrational fear of roaches. And a not so rational familiarity with poop.

As for the roach, that looks like a roach. Second complaint of a roach I've heard recently from the POP. :scared1: I'm sure it is difficult to be completely bug free but perhaps they need to exterminate more frequently. :confused3

Wow, you are fantastic because I would've exploded just over the toliet tissue dispenser alone--once I saw that no amount of cleaning would've been enough. Somebody would've had to give me a new room. And a roach(yes a roach that causes infestations). Oh my gosh, I just get sick thinking about it. I know that you can run into such things anywhere, and that's why I'm so reluctant to travel. The only way I can do it, is to bring Clorox and completely clean my room, toss the sheets and bedspread (I bring my own linens and towels), hang up a $1.00 shower curtain on the inside of the tub and let the original one hang on the outside of the tub at all times, put my own cheap mats on the bathroom floor, and after all that I have to refuse housekeeping during my entire stay because I don't want anyone coming along and contaminating(my clean space). I know, I know it's obsessive but I can't help it. People can really be nasty. Anywhere I go, I treat it the same as my house and some people aren't like that--heck, some are not even clean at home. Also, I'm not putting down housekeeping but I don't care what anyone says; a lot of those workers do the basics and that's it. It's a low paying, filthy job as is and if corners can be cut, I'm sure they will be. I've known housekeepers to go from room to room cleaning with the same rag. I'm sorry, but I don't like the thought of someone wiping down the bathroom in another room and then using that rag to wipe down my main sitting area.

Hey that's a good idea about the shower curtain! :thumbsup2 I'm not a huge germaphobe but one thing I HATE is taking a shower in a hotel and having the shower curtain touch me. It seems they come to life and grab at you! I may have to take you advice for my upcoming trip and bring one from home! Thanks!

I hate it too, makes my flesh crawl to think about it. I'd rather take the minute or 2 it takes to hang my own and enjoy my shower rather than shower and still feel gross.

The shower curtain is a great idea! I always bring Lysol tub cleaning spray, spray Lysol, and clorox wipes. My family knows just to sit back and let mom clean before they touch anything. I'm a nurse too, which makes the germ issue even worse. Probably overkill, but it does make me feel better!

YUCK! I would have called about the bathroom issue. Now about the roach I'm allergic and it's noted on my reservation so they better do a good check before I get to my room. We are staying at CBR which is next to Pop.

.

I believe the OP said she cleaned it herself. Rust doesn't come off easily

I definitely would have called and let them take care of it. Plus they need to know about the roach so they can spray for them.
We had ant issues when we stayed at the FW cabins one year and they sent someone to spray inside and out.
They can't fix what they don't know about.

OP, I'm proud of you because most folks would say, "I'll never stay there again." Of course if we said that for every negative we've encountered we would've run out of resorts by now. I do have to say, you must've gotten a room where the beds are still old. We stayed at Pop last year and had connecting rooms. We had new mattresses while my daughter's room had old ones. Not sure why all were not replaced. As for the bug, heck the only resort we've seen "real" roaches was in our room at the Contemporary (South Wing). Of course we've also had a lizard or two in our room (A/S) and a toad (POR) -- the downside of staying in a ground floor room. It's unforunate that housekeeping had not noticed the bathroom and cleaned it better, but also unfortunate that the former guest had left it so discussing too.

Sure doesn't look like rust to me...especially down the side, you can almost see where there were fingers swiping downward.
All I can say is that there is no way I would have touched that bathroom. I would have been on the phone..right then. This is the big reason I always, always, check everything possible as soon as I get into my room. I check the toilet/shower area..if there is anything amiss, housekeeping is coming back and fixing it. That's what I have paid for...a clean room. Not touching it myself.
I am not obsessive about cleanliness....just ask my dh!! I do wipe down things like the tv remote in hotels/resorts. I do wipe down door knobs and handles. But, that's about it.

I wouldnt have cleaned that mess either. I would have called mousekeeping to take care of that. We have stayed at POP twice and never had any issues. Hope to not have any when we head to the Poly next month.

I had the sorta same experience when we checked into Movies last month. I went to use the toilet and it hadn't been flushed, from someone previously using it. I called Mousekeeping immediately, but I don't know if anyone ever came down. I too had brought my clorox wipes, so I wiped down the toilet, along with everything else in the room (as I usually do). I like the idea of the shower curtain - I have never thought of that one. Thanks!

I did send a letter last week to make a couple of comments about our room, including the toilet. I haven't heard anything (and not really expecting to I guess).

I would have called too. The roach thing would have freaked me out to the point I would have been incapable of staying in that room.

Five years teaching preschool and daycare, if I had a dime for every toddler that did that to a toilet paper dispenser, I'd be rich. It looks like poop to me.

I am so putting Chlorox wipes on my packing list. I hadn't done that lately thinking it was neurotic but now I don't care!

I refuse to stay on the first floor. Less chance for bugs, frogs and other critters. Especially after hearing about a snake nest the CR last year.... the higher the floor the better.

Lacrosse Lady, completely OT, but I now say "I want to go to there" all of the time. Your signature made me giggle. Love some Liz Lemon.
