It should be, once you ask who the designer is, then you say, "Oh, but of course!" But, when you know before asking - BAD!

Hmm, I dunno. I think if I'm going to spend, 20, 50K on a wedding gown, I want everyone to know exactly WHY it cost that much, and that means that they KNOW that it was VW who made it!

But that gown is only the second thing by VW that I've ever liked...first was a perfume. Pretty gown!

Beautiful pictures. I LOVE her gown. Bill is looking rather old though...isn't he just in his early 60s. I recall him looking quite youthful. But I LOVE that gown and dad looks lovely next to his daughter. Did I mention that I love that gown?

I heard that Chelsea had asked him to lose weight before the wedding, and I think when he is heavier he looks younger. He almost seems too thin, maybe it's just the angle of the photo.

He was out strolling the streets in Rhinebeck and there was a pic of him in our paper and he looked awful sickly. I'm glad to see he looked better in the wedding photos, maybe he was just exhausted in the one before.

Chelsea looks beautiful and I love her gown too.
I have to say I'm so glad this wedding is over. Rhinebeck is a little bit north of me and its ALL anyone around her has been talking about for what seems like forever.

At a wedding the bride should stand out, not the dress. If you know when you first see it, that it shouts out, "Vera Wang!" then it's what meant when I said, the dress wears the bride. People should think, "[Bride's name,] is such a beautiful bride!"

I think Bill looks good after having lost weight. Perhaps we are so used to seeing him pudgier that he looks "sickly" to some?

I am not familiar with Jewish wedding customs and maybe this is one, or maybe it something else entirely, but: What is the frame with the black scrolling in one of the photos?

Did anyone else read the CNN story a week or so ago, about the other Rhinebeck bride on Saturday? Two Bard (?) grads had planed thier wedding 2 years ago for the same town, same day. If the Clinton wedding was going to happen, roads would close and guests wouldn't be able to get to their wedding, or reception. She and and her mom were so wrried and the police wouldn't cooperate in telling her what to expect. I haven't found a story on what happened to the other couple.

At least he didn't have to pay for security. I think all of it was included as ex-POTUS and Hillary as Sec of State.


As for those bathroom trailers that cost so much that the tabloids & news were criticizing, they are wonderful. (Never thought I'd use that smiley about a bathroom. ) The uber-catering company my cousin books for, that I've worked with would get posh, tent parties that had those restroom trailers. They look like regular bathrooms in buildings. They are actual, full rest rooms, flushable toilets, running water, expensive soaps, mirrors & best of all: air conditioning.

No woman in a $2000 ballgown wants to step out of the tent and be lifting her skirts over a port-o-potty.

One of the best parts of this, as far as I'm concerned, is how little the national press has focused on the interfaith nature of this marriage. Fifty years ago, this would have been considered a scandal. Twenty-five years ago, it would have been considered a "statement". Now, it is rightfully just a footnote.

LOL. I think that's a typical reaction of the "father of the bride". My wedding was no where as costly but every time we dragged my dad to a shop or catering hall, all he could say was "how much is this gonna set me back"?

I thought he was going to go into cardiac arrest when my mom said she wanted an 8 hour open bar at the reception.

Chelsea looks wonderful and very happy! Good for her! I think what's making Bill look even more gaunt is his suit seems a bit big on him.. Looks like he lost weight and they didnt have a chance to re-tailor it LOL!

As for the Vera Wang, my cousing got married in VW.. she looked amazing. If the dress is wearing the bride and not the other way around, its not the fault of the designer. Ive seen Vera Wang design many different "kinds" of wedding dresses but they always have, like they should, some distinction of the designer, otherwise, you aren't a designer, just a seamstress.

I suspect that it started out as a joke, actually, but a lot of folks read the joke, didn't get it, and started passing the info around as "news". Just goes to show that sometimes how jokes get misconstrued.

As flattered as that would make me feel that people would read my post and think it was news, I am certain it doesn't happen. Perhaps that happens to you often, but not me.

I meant that I suspect that the dollar amount itself started out as a joke - someone else's joke, presumably; not yours. That was picked up by blogs and then news services and reported as news. There was never any factual basis for the number.

I don't think it was started as a joke or as a political commentary From what I've read, that figure comes from speculation by wedding experts making the media rounds. Of course anonymous sources close to the Clinton's swear the wedding didn't cost that much, but really we won't ever know.

I don't care how much they spent. It's their money that they earned and they should spend it as they wish without people telling them how selfish they are (not that I think they are).

And honestly, it doesn't matter to me how much or how little they spent on her wedding. They should do what they want to do, it's their only child's wedding.

She did look beautiful! I read in the NYT that Rhinebeck was a circus, people trying to approach all of the celebrities, etc. It's about 45 minutes away from me and I could tell the traffic was heavier going in that direction. Hope nothing spoiled her big day.
