Yes, I feel better. Yes, my cloths feel loser but I have not lost weight. I did not do induction religiously meaning I ate a few things not on the allowed list. Not many but could this have been enough to mess me up. I'm talking about a couple of olives occasionally and an Advantage bar for breakfast every day. I am drinking 64 oz of water daily. It's been a month and I'm getting a little discouraged. Dh has done the same things I have and has lost about 11 lbs.

Eating advantage bars on induction may well sabotage your efforts if you are sensitive to sugar alcohols.

How much weight do you need to lose? You have lost nothing, so far? If you have less than 20 pounds to lose it is going to be slow going for you regardless of what eating plan you follow.

Have you checked your urine to see if you are in ketosis?

What I would do is 86 the Advantage bars. Start induction and follow it religiously and if I have still not lost anything after a week, I would rethink my eating plan.

Sounds like you are losing inches instead of pounds. Is your weight what is important to you or is your size important to you? My personal need is to be smaller not lighter but not everyone feels that way.

If your clothing is more loose then you are successful. Atkins is working for you. Don't let a number on a scale sabotage your success.

I agree with Katholyn, start induction again and follow it to a T. I also have been losing very slow on Atkins. I discovered that I still eat too many calories. I count my carbs faithfully and check for positive Ketosis, but too many calories still slows the weight loss. I have found that the natural appetite suppression of the diet isn't quite enough for me. I have to be very conscious of how much I am eating and stop myself before I am satisfied and wait a little while. This seems to be working for me. You might want to keep track of calories for a while and see if that is a problem. Also, do you weight your food? I bought a digital scale and started weighing everything and discovered my "eye-balled" portions were much bigger than I thought.

Good luck, don't give up, just tweak as necessary :)

The week that I did not lose anything I had eaten about 4 Endulge bars... Since then I keep it to 1 or 2 a week (I don't know for sure that those were the problem), could the Advantage bars be doing that to you?

Either way, if you are noticing a change in your clothes, and if you are feeling better from not being on sugar anymore, then you are doing fine. (But I do know how frustrating it is not to see the numbers move on the scale.)

Thanks for the encouragement. I started induction again today. Where do you get the strips to check for ketosis?

I had to ask at the pharmacy for the Ketostix - they were behind the counter.

Good luck - and hang in there!

Last time I bought the ketosticks (I bought Thinz Metobostix) they were in Walmart near the Low Carb items, I think they were $12 for 25.

Thanks a bunch. This has been frustrating especially since the weight is melting off of DH. I'd like to lose about 40 lbs so there is definitely enough there to come off.

Lanshark,

You need to put this in perspective! You are losing weight on Atkins! You are losing great! 11 lbs in a month is about 2.7 lbs/week! That is fantastic - and you were eating things that cause alot of people to slow down! You are having great success - be thrilled with your progress. You just can't compare yourself to a man when it comes to weight loss - one of the great unfair things about life! I am a very slow loser - the first 6 weeks of Atkins - following religiously, I lost nothing! I would have thrilled with 11 lbs!!!! About 4 months later I am down - about 18 lbs since I started Atkins (that's 4.5 a month)- and you know? I'm happy with eating this way and sooner or later it will all be gone! NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES! It's taken me a long time to get here, but I'm done w/ dieting! Atkins is how I eat and that's that.

It will work for you, but it will take as long as it takes!

Hey Karyn

I would have been thrilled with 11 lbs but that was DH's weight loss. Mine was zero. You're right though, it took 20 years to put on the extra weight it will take a little time to take it off. I feel better hearing that others have had the same experience. You read so many that the weight just melts off.

Thanks

Marcie,

I'm so sorry, I read that a few times before I posted and I just kept reading it wrong! I attribute my difficulty to my hormonal age! And it is the most frustrating thing in the world to watch what seems like EVERYBODY else have so much quick success on this! I also had done lo-fat dieting in the year prior to starting atkins and I think that contributed to the slowness of the weightloss. I think you will see if you look at people's siggie, tho, that the majority of Atkins losers lose their wieght over a longer period of time than WW or some other plans - they just often have a quicker jumpstart at the beginning. My DH and I are also doing it together. We worked our way down to Atkins so we actually lost our initial weight before induction and I had to finally go on the fat fast which helped, but didn't keep me loosing. Finally I started mixing in alot more veggies than Induction allowed and I had another drop. I just hang on to the same weight for about 4-8 weeks then lose about 5 lbs. It's my own slow way to lose. On lowfat diets I lose about 2-3lbs consistantly. But for my health and for my life, this is the plan I'm going to use - mostly because it is the plan my DH can live with! BTW I started w/ almost the same amount to lose. Got 20 left to goal!

If I can help you in any way, please pm or email me!

I am so in awe of how supportive people on this board really are of each other.

I also had a time when my hubby lost and hadn't followed induction to a "t", and when I had followed it and didn't lose at all. That was very frustrating. However, the next week or two I did well, so just continue to give it time.

Since your goal is to get smaller, don't worry about what the scale says, just focus on how you feel and how your clothes are fitting!

You guys are great. I started back on induction yesterday and will only weigh myself once weekly. I think that will keep me in a better frame of mind. I hate that some of you have gone through the same thing but it does make it easier for me to know I'm not the only person who hasn't lost a bunch the first few weeks. I guess at 43 everything is slowing down a bit
;)

Keep at it! At almost 57, my metabolism is really slow. But I keep plugging away. I plan to stay on this low carb eating probably for the rest of my life...about 30 grams per day, lots of water. Sometimes I do better when I eat a little more (veggies mostly or salad).

Have you been exercising? I ride my bike outside almost every day, weather permitting, and walk occasionally. This helps a little.

If you can lose a pound or two a week, that will be great! Not everyone has those big losses. Try posting on the WISH JOURNAL and log your meals, etc. Sometimes this helps.

I know you'll be taking off those pounds soon!

Have you measured yourself? I know for some people, inches come off faster than weight. I've been on Atkins since July 21st as my sig states and I'm only down 16 pounds. I say only because like you, I've read where so many just have the pounds drop off. I'm back up 3 pounds and I need to get back on the ball again. I don't know what happened, but I'll figure it out. I'm almost certain, it's the peice of toast I treated myself to last week and possibly half the bread on my chick-fil-a sandwich. Hmmm.....really rethinking that one...chick-fil-a...(fried chicken)!!

I just want to be below 220 pounds before the end of September and I want to be below 200 pounds before January 1st!

Don't give up and remember, if your clothes feel loser, you HAVE to be losing something.

Best to you,

Denise

I just measured yesterday. I should have before I started the program but one of my kids got ahold of my tape measure and I had to buy a new one.

I think I will probably need to get on the treadmill to get things going also. I'm thinking the advantage bar for breakfast was hurting because I'm down a total of 3 today. Yipee!

Marcie, I'm so happy for you! I think you figured it out! Wow, that's so great! Yipee is right!
