Not Having a Bridal Party

Hello all,

Just wondering if there are/were any Disbrides who didn't have a bridal party to join them...

How did it work it terms of the witnesses needed for the wedding certificate...making the toasts after the ceremony...and for any other tasks that the bridal party would participate in?

I have been contemplating having one or not, leaning towards not though. We aren't having a bridal party because we thought that it would be special with just us two at the altar.

Yea, we're going to have the max 18 for our Escape wedding.

I'm pretty sure anyone can sign your marriage certificate as a witness, it doesn't have to be a bridal party member. As far as speeches and toasts, maybe you could have a close friend or sibling give one?

ok, so here's how it was for us - i wasn't going to have any "MOH" or whatnot until i actually got dizzy listening to the sales consultant talk about waiting in the "brides vestibule" for the cremony to begin!!!! ha!!!! i just thought i dodn' want to be stnding there all alone!! so i had a MOH, my husbands BM was his son, who is 17 - not old enough to be a witness. we asked my MOH and "BFF" to be a witness and my now brother in law who was there.

so not sure if this answers your question, but you can have anyone sign your license, it doens't have to be someone in the "wedding party" proper.

We're not having a bridal party either. To be honest, I haven't really thought about you was going to give toasts or be witnesses. We do have 18 guests to choose from though. So I'm not really stressing it.

Hi....we had an Escape wedding and had my 2 13 year olds as the bridal party. My son was the BM and my daughter was the MOH. They really had no formal responsibilities in their roles but it felt special to have them involved with the day.
I toasted our guests to thank them for coming and sharing in our day. They really loved that and I loved doing it.

Our Officiant said no need for witnesses to sign the wedding certificate . So we didn't and we got it back and it's legit, lol. I used it to change my SSN and it was accepted so I don't know if its just a Florida thing or what.

We had an escape wedding almost 6 years ago. My daughter was 10 at the time, and we walked down the aisle together. That was it for my bridal party. We were planning to have our good friends witness the marriage and sign the certificate, but our officiant told us that our daughter could sign that marriage certificate. Only 1 person needs to sign, and it doesn't need to be an adult. Our daughter also prepared a little speech and my mother-in-law gave the toast. I don't at all regret at all not having a bridal party.

I had a Wishes wedding and we had no bridal party, we had 35 guests but didn't want the drama that sometimes comes along with a bridal party.

My mom and DH's mom signed the license as our witnesses. We didn't have any toasts, just a first dance, mother/son dance, and cake cutting. Those were the only traditional things we did. Other than that we partied, drank, ate and DANCED!

Thanks for your replies...that exactually sounds like a great idea to have our mothers be the witnesses. Can't think of anybody more special to do so.

And of the toasts, if we decide to do one, I think a saying of thanks to our guests from us would be great as well. I have always thought that the toasts had to come from the bridal party or guests from the wedding. Thanks for putting my mind at ease!
