not happy with standby rant

No one was suggesting Disney try to prevent people from getting in the line for Splash *at all*. Just suggesting that Disney not include Splash as a FP+ option in that e-mail. Not including it as a FP+ option in that scenario doesn't prevent or control anyone from getting in the standby line for Splash. But those people would then be *behind* those who were already in line for Splash, not going ahead of them due to FP+ - so, in the OP's scenario, the SB wait would have still increased for people entering the attraction then, but since the OP was already in line her wait would not have increased as the incoming riders would have been SB, not FP+.

No one's suggesting mind control.

Something similar happened to us last May. Splash Mountain broke down and all of those in line for FP+ came over to Big Thunder Mountain RR. By the time we were able to use our FP for BTHRR the FP line was long, stretching way out into the park. (And SM was still not open so more SM FP holders kept going over to BTMRR) We tried to change our BTMRR ride to another ride, but by this time it was later in the day and no "good" FP were left. We ended up waiting 60 minutes in the FP line. I was a bit frustrated, but I am not sure how they could remedy this problem and keep everyone happy.

What you want Disney to do is infringe upon the privacy rights of the guests in the park and track their every step and whereabouts so that if this happens, they can then control your mind and make you go somewhere else. This will not happen.
If you knew my stance you'd know that I don't want Disney to control anything. However I see nothing wrong with announcements to the standby queue that the wait time is likely to be significantly longer. You didn't like that idea and that's fine. I'll just leave it at that.

You've waffled on your stance in the thread, so try again?

If you don't know, I'm not gonna help at this point.
LOL! No reason to be snarky.

I'll just say that I think that MDE is a very expensive and somewhat worthless thing. I like the idea of keeping everything in one accessible place even if Disney's IT is problematic. Otherwise I still don't see the value to the visitor.

However IF we all have to deal with MDE then I think that it should be effective in controlling crowds. I don't believe that a ride being swamped by FP+ users from another ride without any warning to anyone is an effective way to control crowds and it's certainly not very useful for those who are waiting in the standby line. As I said before, if someone sees a certain estimated time to ride and then it increases by an hour when another ride breaks down then there ought to be a way to warn people in the line. You didn't agree which is fine.

MDE is a huge improvement to what was there before, which was nothing. Rides going down and affecting lines is not new since the implementation of MDE and FP+. At least with MDE you have advanced warning that your ride has gone down, and having the ability to ride a list of other rides when that occurs is far better than the too bad, so sad way of FP-.

Good point. I'm thinking in terms of those at the other ride(s) but I won't deny that this is convenient for those who deal with the breakdown. At least it is if you have the right kind of phone but that's a whole other topic. :)

Having a swarm of people come into the FP line because of another ride breaking down is going to delay the people in standby way more than the people in FP, although it will raise the wait for them too.

But standby doesn't matter anymore.

FP+ is the thing that must succeed.

Well big thunder mountain broke down as we were waiting. Disney put all the thunder mountain fastpasses onto splash mountain while it was down

First of all, Disney did not "put all the thunder mountain fast passes onto splash mountain." Since Thunder Mountain went down, Disney gave choices to those that held fast passes. Splash Mountain was one of the choices. I am sure if you had a fast pass for an attraction that went down, you would have wanted a "replacement" fast pass in it's place.

They didn't but by making it a option it was probably where many people went considering the location, the fact Splash is also a headliner, and is a similar thrill level.

I'm afraid the only way to solve this is... TIERING.

I'm thinking Disney should just go ahead and remove tiers. But people should be very careful what they wish for though. I'm on site, I have 60 days. Remove tiers and I pick all the headliners at Epcot and HS and so would almost everyone else. Those without a 60 day window would be in for a not so pleasant experience.
Nobody like tiers, but some people are going to like it a whole lot less without them.

Which is what they should have done. A headliner attraction went down, so they offered a fast pass to another headline attraction which was in close proximity. And I am sure this is what you and the OP would have wanted if you had a fast pass for a headline attraction. Or, would you rather they gave you a fast pass for Dumbo or Philharmagic, etc?

Personally, while I would want a FP for Splash over Philharmagic, I would also be angry if I was in the Splash standby line and it ballooned because of this. I can have those two opinions simultaneously.

Regardless, the only thing that matters to Disney at this point is that FP+ is seen as a success. And that's exactly what this decision reflects.
