not happy with standby rant

On our Sept trip we were in line for pirates (we had only been in line about 5 minutes), when it broke down. They handed out paper fast passes to everyone in line that were good for a week at a bunch of attractions.

Yeah, not the smartest idea. The me, me, me mentality wins again. Putting people's safety at risk to meet a character... Lemme guess, your wife was using the stroller as a plow? :rolleyes2

It's not up to the CMs to do anything at that point. You're "on your own" so to speak. Disney isn't going to send CMs out as personal assistants to tell you that "we see you have another event coming up, but the line's getting long... you might want to head to your other event".

No. The system works the way it should. Sorry bout yer luck if you happen to be in a short standby line for an attraction which can be a FP+ alternative if a ride close by goes down. Disney has no reason at this time to change it so that the ride within X proximity of Y attraction that goes down is off limits to the FP+ compensation.

Actually my wife is a 350 lb linebacker sumo wrestler, and is really quick on her feet so no stroller needed.

In no time did I actually go over a fast walk. Yeah, an out of shape 40 year old is going to run carrying a 50 lb kid from one side of MK to the other. If I did that I wouldn't be in my current job...

I understand CM's aren't going to do anything, but when FP line is filling in and we were at about the 20 minute normal standby point they could have let us know what was going on. All the announcement kept coming over the PA was that the fast pass line was getting too long and to move it along. Unfortunately I'm the kind of person that once I commit to something I see it through.

I don't think the system works the way it should. There are a limited amount of fast passes on any given day and if a ride goes down they shouldn't flood another close one in the same amount of time.

That's been the debate. Splash and Big Thunder are about equal in thrill, as others pointed out. Those with the "makeup" FP have the option of when and how to use it.

There are a lot of us that like to see things through to the end result, but there has to come a time where you have to look at the remaining priorities and make a decision. If you have to bail, you have to bail. Again, as others have said, since you were riding standby the first time, would there have been another chance to come back later?
