Not happy with Henry's camera shop at all!

"Somehow, not intentionally or to your knowledge pressure was applied to the lens".

By fairies maybe? Is she supposed to call in Forensics? Sheesh.

My comment was meant at face value....it happened accidently, and no one knows how. Not sure why you took such offense at that comment. Things happen accidently, don't they? :confused3

I think Tiger 926 clearly explained that she didn't do anything to cause the lens to become crooked. You are assuming that she accidently was to blame. If the lens becomes crooked that easily then Nikon should replace their faulty equipment. No?

Enjoy your new camera! Hope it works better than your last....share some of your pics with us:thumbsup2

Thanks, we were considering this (I even started a thread about it on Photography board), but our Panasonic FZ-30 is pretty much the closest thing you can get to an DSLR, without the lens coming off. A DSLR would be overkill in this respect. We really like having a P & S camera as well as our bridge camera as it allows us to take pretty much any kind of shot we need. You are right though that DSLR cameras have come way down in price! Hubby purchased a Canon G10 today from Best Buy at a great price. They matched Black's (who had it for $50.00 off), plus their price matching policy and we had a reward certificate to use as well. We have 14 days to actually use it to see if we like it. Wow! We have a 2 year warranty - 1 year Canon and 1 additional with Visa. I'll let you know how it works out once we play with it this Easter weekend.

Thanks, that is very nice of you to offer! I just spoke with Henry's in Toronto, and they are waiting for Nikon to call them back, and when they do, they'll return my call. Once I get that info, I am going to email both Henry's and Nikon. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again to everyone for your information, kind words and support! I really wanted to get people's opinions, as well as warn people about Henry's extended warrany (HELP) and their customer service, as well as find out if this is the norm with Nikon as it's our first, and quite possibly, our last dealing with them for quite awhile.

No. Because a lens bending easily is not "faulty equipment". It is inherent in the make up of a lens.

Well, I guess, if you say so.

My brother is a world renowned professional photographer and I showed him this thread so I am basing a lot of this on what he says.

This reminds me of the time I had to get a new rim for DW's car. We had a warranty on the tires and rims so I put in a claim. It was denied because I didn't know how the rim got bent. So, I took the car to the dealership, parked it in the service department and wouldn't leave till the matter got sorted out. The sales manager came out and got it all sorted out for me with one phone call. Whenever things like this happen I remember the line from the movie The Rainmaker, "Deny all claims at first". It doesn't cost Henry's anything to deny the claim. They get to keep the money from the warranty, it's clear profit.

I am actually a fan of the extended warranties, it has always work out for me, I have bought laptops and cameras and future shop and anytime something needed to be fixed it's been fixed. I actually got a new laptop under there extended warranties cause my coumputer wouldn't turn on, and when they sent it in to be fixed it took longer than expected, I think it was 6 weeeks at that time, and if they take it longer than a certain period they have to give you a new laptop.

Update

I am stunned to report that Henry's just called Nikon is repairing the camera, FREE OF CHARGE! We are stunned and in disbelief. We hardly had to fight at all...I was waiting to hear back from them before I sent any emails, so I hadn't even gotten that far.

We are so grateful, but a bit sad because the new Canon G10 we just bought is so sweet! We haven't removed it from box at all as we were waiting to hear back from Henry's/Nikon, so it will go back, as we haven't used it at all. We did get a great deal at Best Buy though! When it's time to upgrade or replace the Panasonic, we'll get a DSLR, but if the Nikon needs to be replaced, then we'll get a Canon G or whatever newer version is out.

Wow! I am still stunned at this turn of events. Melody at Henry's in Toronto must have worked some magic for us. I will be sending thank you emails to both Henry's and Nikon when I get my camera back.

Thanks to all for your support, Tiger :)

Really happy for you Tiger. Sometimes companies really step up with the customer service (Nikon in this case).:thumbsup2

But if I were you there would be a tiny little smidgeon of disapointment because I didn't get to keep my new toy!;)

Thanks - we are struggling with the decision of what to do with our new toy as well as the Nikon. I think hubby wants to keep it, but we don't need it - having 3 great digital cameras would be definite overkill for us. We did get a great deal on it though and we are a bit worried about the Nikon. He wants to see if Henry's will trade it back as he said the manager was talking to him about refurbished cameras. Funny thing is, we were going to take advantage of Henry's half back program (comes with extended warranty), but baby was sick, so we didn't pursue it. I wouldn't feel right selling the camera, but hubby said the manager said they sell refurbished cameras all of the time as they have a guaranteed warranty and people seem to like that as they can save a good deal of money. Like I said, we are grateful that the camera is being repaired, but we really weren't expecting it. Now, we have some hard decisions to make - LOL!

Incidentally, I called Melody at Henry's repair department to thank her for her help and she said it was pretty easy to convince Nikon to repair it as she told them how nice and patient I had been. She said she gets yelled at all day long as she has to deliver lots of bad camera news to people, and she was very impressed with my politeness, despite being told my camera was not going to be fixed. We also discovered that she used to live in my city, so she has a soft spot for us! She has been wonderful, so when I get my camera back, I am going to contact Henry's corporate office to tell them what a fabulous employee she is.

Thanks to all, Tiger :)

That is great news Tiger! Sounds like you and Melody could have formed the beginning of a great relationship. Will you now continue to work with Henrys?

I don't agree with you however about 3 digital cameras being overkill: I think cameras are a lot like shoes - you need a different one for every different occasion :thumbsup2 Oh, and camera bags fall into that category too! Actually, the G10 is high on my list and I hope to get one before my next trip to WDW.

We will definitely be working with Henry's as Melody was great in explaining things, listening and communicating with Nikon. Our local store could definitely use some customer service lessons though. :thumbsup2

I'm still laughing about your shoe comment - LOL! I guess you could be right - I am a very sensible and practical person, so having 3 digital cameras does seem a bit much. The G10 seems so good just based on our research and so I'm worried that if we keep it, we might not want to use our Panasonic camera (although it does have a much larger optical zoom), and we probably won't even use our Nikon anymore, if we kept that one.

Decisions, decisons... Tiger:confused3
