Not Feeling the Magic

This is our first Disney trip and I've been waiting for a code to save us some money and was disappointed when our week in October was blacked out for free dining. But I decided it was for the best because we would not have been able to continue with DDxP. Yesterday morning I was thrilled to see they had released the room only discounts so I called about 7:30 waited for 30 minutes and was told that I could not add this discount to my already reserved room at CSR that I would have to switch to PO, which I don't want to do.

Help me get the magic back, I am feeling a little stomped on by DW. I keep reading all the great deals everyone is getting and I am wondering what I'm doing wrong.

Sorry you didn't get what you want.

I always say Disney resort discounts are like a clearance sale on clothes: if you want something very specific (a certain color in your size), you may have to pay full price. If you are willing to buy the XXL in green, maybe that will be discounted.

Disney will only discount whatever is not selling. If it can get full price, it will.

I feel your pain! We are having the same issue with our ressies for WL:confused3 Oh well! We are going anyway and will have a great time:goodvibes I was hoping for a good discount but it was not factored into the budget for this vacation as a "must get". I will still be looking, just like you, for the discount that may apply:surfweb:
Did you see the discount about the Disney gift card??? Worth checking out...

If I really want to use the codes I don't get my heart set on a particular resort. I will look online to see what is available and go from there. As a PP eluded to, "popular" weeks and "popular" resorts have fewer, if any, discounts as they don't need help filling those rooms. Just remember, you are still at WDW. :goodvibes And be happy you got a room at your desired location. I often read of people who want to stay somewhere but it's sold out for their dates. Just look on the bright side and all will be well.

Check on-line every day to see if it becomes available. Sometimes the more popular ones come up late. One time we were waiting for ASM, I think, had a reservation at Sports, low and behold about 3 weeks before we were to leave it opened and I switched. Just keep checking

Sorry you weren't able to get the discount you wanted. That happened to us a couple of years ago -- there were tons of discounts swirling around but nothing that could be applied to Pop. We really didn't want to switch so we had to accept paying rack rate. I think the key with the codes is being able to flex your plans if needed -- like shifting the dates slightly or picking another resort where there is availability with a discount. Hope you have a great trip.

All good advice. The bottom line is to get a discount, you have to be flexible. If you read alot of the treads, there are many people moving to other resorts in order to get a better deal. It's just the way it is. Discounts are available in the resorts with rooms to fill. Keep checking if you heart is set on one resort as there may be enough moving around to open it for you, but you should also look at other possibilies. Only you know which is the most important factor in your trip: full price at the resort you choose, or a discount at another resort. Have you considered that you may be able to upgrade to a delux resort for the same price you might be paying?? Crunch some numbers, but don't wait too long.

This is why I cringe when I read threads where people ask if they can have a code applied to the current res, and the response is Sure -- works great. I did it. (etc)
Most likely it can happen. But there are times it doesn't.
It all depends on availability and what is offered.
Keep checking back. As long as the particular room is included in the offer, there is always a possibility it could become available again. But again, it may not.
As has been stated, a lot of offers are for those who can be flexible -- either with dates, length of stay, resorts, room types, etc.
I would guess a portion of planning in these offers is trying to make the occupancy more level, spreading out the occupancy, rather than more wanting to stay during a particular time.

I agree with PP, you have to be flexible to really take advantage of promos that come out.
It is too bad your resort was not available for the discount you wanted.

Have you looked into using the discount at another resort? I know you said you didn't want the one they offered, was there another?
Would it be worth it for you to upgrade and receive the discount?

Hopefully you get something, but if you don't in the end you are still going to Disney and will have a wonderful time.

I agree. You aren't doing anything wrong - it's just luck of the draw. There have been times when my resort choice was more important than saving some money - and I've ended up with smaller discounts or none at all. Other times, the budget was more of a consideration and I was willing to change resorts or room categories to get a better rate. When the budget is really tight, I wait until the offers come out before I book, and then go for the best deal. Only you know which one is more important for your family for this trip. But the sooner you decide, the more options you'll have to choose from.

Nothing worked for me, either. I can't be flexible in my dates, and the only option open to me to change to was AKL Club Level. Nice place, but for several reasons I need to stay at Boardwalk Inn.

Maybe a discount will work for me next trip...I'll enjoy this one anyway.

As others have mentioned, this is one of the problems with people saying "all you have to do is call and have the discount applied to your ressie." We tried this a few years ago and it didn't happen for us either. Disney will only apply a discount to a ressie if there is a room available to apply it to. We couldn't even cancel and rebook to get the discount we wanted.

OP, I and so many others feel your frustration :grouphug:
Keep in mind the reason(s) you planned your disney trip in the first place...that's where the magic really comes from! :wizard:

Gosh this year when the spring discounts came out in January. I spent 3 weeks pricing out resorts online was able to get any deluxe resort with the 40% off. Even when I switched resort for the third time and changed dates at 50 days out no problem getting the discount. I wonder if disney is keeping the discounts, but greatly reducing the number of rooms available for the discount.:confused3

I am with you. I was excited to hear that discounts came out for 2011 but was disappointed to see that my dates were not included. My dates are not flexible so I won't be able to change. I was planning this trip anyways and it's not going to stop me from enjoying the magic....but it would be nice to hopefully get some pixie dust spread my way.
