Not feeling my resort choice

Remember, no matter what resort you end up with, all of them will be decorated beautifully at Christmas, not just WL.

This is what I was thinking, too. You can go to other resorts for beautiful Christmas decorations, too.

I am in the "palm tree" camp - if there isn't palms or other tropical foliage around me, then I'm not in Florida!

Well we have stayed at all, and you are picking three of the best to choose from especially at Christmas. I personally think the WL would be great at Christmas. I would think of other things before you make your decision. Someone said theming, or indoor corridors. Someone else said room size, bed size and comfort. But a few other things would be, getting to and from your hotel to the parks you visit most, having the kind of food you want, amenities walking paths, and such.

GF will have the largest rooms, top of the line mattresses, but also will have two queens and a daybed, just in case you want that third bed. They will have the best resturaunts qs and ts. They will have the monorail to the MK. But the rest of the park transportation will be slow. It will cost twice as much even food will cost a little more.

WL will have a room size between your picks, but only two queen beds. It will have some good ts and qs. It will look like a cabin up at the North Pole at Christmas time (sadly without the snow). It will have interior corridors. It will have a balcony. It will have a boat ride to MK, and great bus rides to everything else, one of the best transportation hotel of all of Disney.

POFQ will have a very quiet relax fell. It will have the smallest room, and the smallest bathroom. It will have only two queen beds. It will have no ts. It has a boat to DS but it has buses everywhere, but they can and do share with POR a lot. It will have less decorations.

When we pick, we go by whom is coming with us, if oldest dd and DGD POFQ is one of our favorites.
Me and dh GF
Everyone I think SS.
Me and DGD AKL.
Me and other DD POR
All girls CR
Me alone WL or with hubby.

I think for you, it comes down to figure out what your family needs are, deluxe bathrooms are bigger, easier in morning, so if you can only afford WL that would be a plus with 4 girls in a room. If your number one park is MK, then WL would be a better choice. If Epcot than POFQ. If you go to DS to eat a couple nights w week than POFQ. If you want the in your face gingerbread house to stare at for hours GF. If you hate lobby noise than don't pick GF or WL, go POFQ.

The only time I made a huge mistake in picking hotels was three years ago, 5 girl vacation, deluxe room BC, we all love to swim, we will never ever go to BC again, looked great on paper, in photos, has great reviews, just not for us. But I am happy we went, or I would never have known that we never ever want to go back to BC again.

We are currently booked at the BWV but we are (keeping fingers crossed) hoping to move to Wilderness Lodge...at christmas its downright "magical"!

Isn't POFQ cheaper? That alone would make me choose it if you are in doubt. Never have stayed at WL but now that we bring a camper and go to FW, we ride our bikes over there. Very cool place. That being said, we still would probably pick POFQ bc it's more our style, and at least in the past when we went to the moderates believe you get more bang for your buck from the moderate resorts such as POFQ. Really like having several buildings and going in from the outside to your rooms also, love the walking trails, etc. Love the boat ride. POFQ has a really nice feel to it, more relaxed also. You can always go over to WL for lunch or dinner. WL is beautiful but it is similar to lodges in my area also so another reason I probably would prefer POFQ.

I have booked our second trip to the mouse for Christmas. I am taking my 2 teenage girls and my mother-in-law. This will be MIL's first time to Disney.

I have already stayed at Grand Floridian, and while I loved it, the holiday rates have priced me out of it. So I chose Wilderness Lodge. But the exterior of the resort does nothing for me. I keep looking at PORFQ and it looks so pretty and quaint.

I am considering changing my resort. Am I making a bad move?

I haven't read the whole thread but want to say the resort that is the most Christmasy to me is Wilderness Lodge. The huge tree, northwest feel, and fireplace all make it my top resort to visit in December.

I am definitely NOT a "woodsy" gal...and had booked WL because of the great price point for a deluxe hotel. I was absolutely against the the wing and disliked the room decor. I have to say that we LOVED the WL and I would never hesitate to salary there again. We took the boat to and from the MK and to get to monorail. The proximity of the lobby to the bus stop and as on if the BEST!!! I also lov d the smell of the WL. The courtyard pool was awesome for my daughter and we had friends who joined us poolside and had an awesome time!

Al in all I was SO happy I didn't switch (I had considered POFQ at the time...which I've stayed at previously).
Just me but I'd prefer WL over the Mods.

Best of luck with your decision!

I stayed at WL with two other adults who didn't like the way the theming looked on the website. Once we stayed they were hooked. And at Christmas? I wouldn't stay anywhere else. It is a marvelous resort.

We love POFQ because of the theming and it's relatively small and 'cozy' look. If you like it there, then it is 'not' a bad move!!

I'm not into that kind of theming at all either. I've twice stayed at the Grand Californian because it was so close and I really, seriously hated every minute of it. The second time, I was like "we both hate it here, right? except for Napa Rose? How do you feel about blowing some Hilton points and saving a grand the next 2 nights?" We checked out and checked into a much nicer Hilton down the street. You might go outside, but not really, and consider the Swolphin. I'm not patient enough to do MDE, when a car service is just part of flipping vacation, and really, its my favorite, along with my continued love of CR which I have to revisit every so often and occasionally YC for a Stormalong Bay centered trip. Its a thought, and personal opinion, the beds are best on property, but its been like 5-6 years since I've done GF.
