I will (hopefully) be doing the Relay for Life in BG, Ohio. Any tips on how to "survive"? I chose to do this to give me a goal to strive for instead of walking aimlessly through my house. Anyone else done a Relay for Life???

I will have at least three other people with me: 3 friends (with one maybe), me, and my mom. It's really meaningful to us.

TIA!!

Yes! I did my first last year. It is basically an all nighter and an incredibly inspirational event. It is not a race rather it is and event. It is something that they say requires at least one of your team to be on the track at all times. The biggest thing is that it is to raise funds for the American Cancer Society so bring money as there will be things being sold while you are there. We are doing it again this year and have been fundraising with garage sales and daffodil sales and such. Each hour is a different type of event and you are to play dress up as you walk along.

btw, if one of your team is not exactly on the track it is not a disqualifier. We walked because we did. There were teams there that went home to sleep, some had shifts, it's all about what works best for you and the team and the fundraising.

I'm not sure if I have given you much assistance, if you have questions that I might assist with just ask.

You have given me sooooooooo much. Thanks, Tiger Lily. I can't wait!!!!! :hyper: But how do you play dress up-per se? I will bring money. What kind of things do they sell...what will I need to bring (sleeping bag, PJ's, toothbrush, etc.? Anything special?)

We brought lawn chairs, sat around talking all night. We also had a tent to change in, but never slept. Actually, one of the guys did sleep for about 2 hours. You should be getting a schedule of the themes for each hour. Some of our events last year were a Disney hour, had to wear something Disney. Wedding hour, some folks came dressed as brides/grooms, animal theme, pajama hour--that was fun! I took some of my mom's curlers stuck them in my hair with a head scarf, tossed on my raggedy bathrobe, (shorts and T-shirt under) slippers and walked around yawning and scratching my behind...they give out raffle tickets for those walking to the theme of the hour and extra for some. There was a military hour, oh just so much. There are team pics, team shirts, you name it they have thought of it. Some groups sell food, beverage. We sold cabbage and noodles, jambalaya (sp?). FD and PD sold chili others sold novelty items...it is like an all night bazaar.

The moving part is the beginning where survivors walk out, there is a candle processional, and luminaries that are lit along the track in honor/memory of friends and relatives that are purchased before the event.

Your team captain should be getting info to you about all this stuff.

WOW ... I had no idea that there was "theming" involved. I hope the one here in London Ontario in June will be the same type of thing. My DBIL's work has put together a team in honour of and named after my DSis who is undergoing chemo right now. DH, DBIL and myself are signed up!

Sounds like a great night of fun ... and all for a fabulous cause.
