Not Everyone Is on the Same Boat (EMH)

And here's my thing.. If you take away those options for someone like me.. Then no one should be allowed to save seats for their family.

Because that happens. Everywhere. One stays behind, camps out for a good seat, spouse takes other kid to ride ToT and meets back at said spot.

I don't have that option. But I DO have an option to spend MY money to be guaranteed a decent seat that I didn't have to sit at for an hour in hopes that my child doesn't need a restroom break, or a drink, or a corn dog. Etc etc.

Maybe you could try and look at why this could be a value to some people.

Seat saving has nothing to do with this thread.

...less by one small section..out of the entire sprawling area.

You seem to be talking about something very specific. This is more of a general discussion. Do we know for example, that the new ROL area will only have one area available for an upcharge?

It has EVERYTHING to do with it.

What is a dinner package??

It is essentially "saving a seat".

If you arrive an hour early what are you doing?
Saving a seat.

Well, for what it's worth, I'm against seat saving as well.

I am talking about any dinner package.

And using Fantasmic as an example since a pp states their discontent with it.. And then you stated the same discontent.

Yes, I think ROL will have one area.
I haven't been to CP but will be going this year, also on a dining package for all the reasons I stated above.

Maybe if you honestly looked at why people see value in something, and that it helps them, while not harming you, then you would have less discontent.

There you are back at that "not harming me" thing. We're going to have to agree to disagree on that.

I will agree to disagree. Because I gaurantee that I could never arrive an hour early with my son and not have to leave our seats at some point.
It wouldn't happen.
So I am very thankful that Disney gives me the option to get a decent seat without all of the frustration. And for me- that is worth paying for.

I visited Disney a number of times alone with my daughter at that age and understand the challenges that come with it. We had a great time and found ways to work around the issues it presented.

You probably don't have to deal with that, and that's fine. You probably don't notice when your spouse takes a kid to the bathroom while you stay behind or vice versa. Those are things that I have to consider, and a lot of other people do as well.

All families/travelers are different sizes, different needs, and different wants. If on vacation someone chooses to make life a little easier by spending a little extra money I don't feel like that is call for an outrage. But apparently it is. I don't understand but oh well.

My ways- paying for dinner packages.lol

As I said, I did solo trips with my daughter many times.

I don't want this to be perceived negatively...bc I am really not complaining about my life..

But when you face those same situations, waiting in lines, parking, saving seats, etc every single day...not just on a week or so vacation .. The option to spend a few more dollars to not have to deal with it for once is very attractive.

Irrelevant IMO. ROL has never been available to everyone.

It might not have been built without the upcharge being available. They wanted guests at AK spending money on dining and drinks, so they built what will have a huge draw/incentive.

Yet many guests will get to enjoy ROL without an upcharge if they choose.

Its just more choices.

ROL has never been available to everyone.

I am all for them building new things and charging extra for them, and a lot of guests will get to enjoy them at no extra charge.

Well it is a fact that ROL has never been available to everyone, AK has never even had a night show. The other parks indeed have though so I get your point.

But you are choosing "majority of seats" out of the blue. There is a lot of standing room around the lagoon as well.

I have no problem with "paying" guests supporting the free seats and standing areas for shows (even attractions) for expansions.

In other words, I will take ROL if it means majority of seats are paid, compared to no ROL at all, if that's the route they choose. By a landslide.

I don't know what that means or why you quoted my post.

In all of these threads I keep seeing people say "My family of 4 won't pay it" "My family of 5 won't spend that kind of money" and so on and so on..

But bottom line is this-

Another family of 4 or 5 does see value. My family of 2 sees value.
There is a market for a convenience up charge. In almost anywhere. Not just Disney. Not everyone will see value in all of them. Not everyone needs to see value in them. Yet everyone can still have a good time.

I said something then changed my mind. There is no delete button.

I've mentioned this in another thread, but I'll give an example of an 'up charge' that ACTUALLY does impact another guest, much more than a 'reserved seating section' ever will-

We have season passes to an amusement park called Kings Island. Cost of a 1 day admission is @ $64. You have the OPTION to add a 'Fast Pass' to either that 1 day ticket or 1 day to your season passes. Cost to ADD the Fast Pass for 1 day- $84.

We've waited in line for 35 minutes for the Scrambler (for example), get to the front of the line and then all of the sudden a huge group of fast pass people come, now we wait. Again. Or while waiting in line the FP people get off and jump right back in the fast pass line, riding several times while we are still back in line.

Annoying? Totally.

But then I think, ok these people paid $84 for this, essentially close to $150 total for the day, I think parking is $10 or $20 as well. I can't fault them for jumping back in line. I've done the FP once in 3 years, only because I had friends in town and for that occasion it was worth it. Any other time? Heck no! Not to me. But the people who are willing to pay feel like it is worth it, for whatever reason. And it's their money to spend.

Lighten up.

Sorry, but I don't think the John Riggins approach is going to win the debate.

Have you been? It's one section. ONE.
It's a pretty big venue.

Do you really think that someone else may not get a seat bc of another guest opting for the dining package?

Seriously? I'm curious. Have you ever heard of that happening?

Musical chairs. The less availability open to the general public as part of the upcharge event, the fewer seats there will be for the general public. Therefore, there is a higher chance of not being able to find a seat if you don't purchase the upsell. It seems obvious to me, as does the larger point that the recent explosion of upcharges does impact guests who choose not to pay for them.
