Not Everyone Is on the Same Boat (EMH)

See I think that's a very common response in a survey, or guests in general.

There is a huge number of guests that hate the waiting for an hour or two to get a good seat. Their time is just more valuable than that.

Those guests choose to either take what they get more last minute, or reserve a spot.
It was in the top 3 moments of our trip. We rode ToT 6 consecutive times with no wait and then ran in to Fantasmic maybe 10-15 minutes before it started. Was wonderful to not have to stress about it.

Eta- the first 2 times were a small wait...last 4 were almost walk on

To be honest to me it seem the article was an advertisement piece for Norwegian cruises. They keep talking that it had to be secluded enough, but enough to give people "envy" and then they added all this experiences that aren't exactly new like discovery cove.

Thanks for the thought. For me, yeah, it's the aspirational messaging -- "Don't YOU, too, envy these people? Don't you, too, want to be JUST LIKE THEM?" -- that I find objectionable.

Maybe I've been watching too much "Mad Men," but I don't enjoy being made to feel "less than" by the Don Drapers of the world. If I want (and can afford) your product, I'll buy it...but please don't try and make me feel "better" or "worse" about myself as a person if I can't.

Would you be ok with it if the 'reserved' section was the same size as Fantasmic? Still enough seating for all guests. In my opinion it wouldn't make sense for Disney to do the majority of seating designated for dining packages. I don't think there is enough want/need for it.

I wouldn't care, I don't mind the dining packages as long as they don't dominate. The thing is I think the RoL area is going to be smaller than Fantasmic. If the rumors are correct (I don't think any have been released yet), sounds like they are creating dining packages for Flame Tree, Tusker House, Yak and Yeti and Tiffins. That could potentially be a lot of packages. Or not. Remains to be seen!

I agree. And that's great, that's how it should be. That increases the value of a standalone ticket.

My only point was that I wouldn't want to see too many seats for RoL go to dining packages.

Given how fast ticket prices rise, I think it's only fair that they add things as well.

It's going to be very interesting to see what percentage of ROL (or JB) is dedicated to the money producing meal packages.

..meanwhile....
Pricing for MVMCP was posted on another thread. Won't know for sure til tomorrow, but a site shows an $18 price increase per person.
I'm hoping that's a typo!! But maybe because of regular admission ticket increase?

Why would regular admission ticket increases affect that? Tickets didn't really go up that much more than normal this year. But the party ticket prices did.

Disney charges what they think they can get away with. I really think it's as simple as that.

Oddly enough, party ticket prices don't bother me. When we go that time of year, we really structure the trip around the party and would not lose a lot of sleep over the higher price. If we were going to WDW, I would be buying tickets to at least 2 parties.

I'm probably the only person on the DLR side of things hoping they decide to add a Christmas party for the first time ever.

Just curious how do you feel on the tiered aspect of those party ticket prices just announced for MNSSHP and MVMCP?

It's a bit hard for me to wrap my head around a tiered aspect coming to dining packages but I guess in the world of today's Disney nothing is off limits..maybe they would make same-day reservations (I don't even know if that is really done nowadays anyways) higher priced than advanced and maybe they would cost more on the weekends than during the week. I'm so not trying to give Disney any ideas but if they jump on this whole tiering bandwagon it's likely they will at least attempt to apply it to everything they can.

The party tikets? It is what it is. I would still go.

I hadn't heard about tiered dining packages. What's going on with that?

It has been true of dining in a very limited way already. There has been "normal" pricing most of the year, but "holiday" pricing at Christmas and Easter for example. Not sure if it was true of counter service, but it was for table service. I'm with you - let's dont give any ideas, but surge pricing seems to be all yhe rage these days.

Ok was just wondering on that part.

Nothing currently with the dining packages I just meant that since they now have tiered 1-day pricing, general consensus is eventually multi-days will be tiered, party tickets are now tiered for MNSSHP and MVMCP (maybe my initial wording was poor on what I meant about dining packages)...it wouldn't be a stretch for Disney to start tiering anything and everything they can not saying that's what would happen but nothing is off limits for today's Disney.

I expect we'll see more of this, not less. But if people start voting with their wallets, it can be turned back. Part of me thinks they're just hoping to confuse people into just handing over their credit cards and letting them charge whatever they deem appropriate.

We don't have more budget to spend. Disney isn't getting more out of me. But we will trim trim costs on our trips. If we face the same price issues at DLR we'll make the move over to staying offsite. They nearly tripled the price of photopss out there, so we will go without it for the first time. We already share a lot of meals.

If the trimmed back trips start feeling less enjoyable, we'll stop going.

It is what it is. I hate that statement, but it seems fitting here. But we would still do the hard ticket party. We might cut back from 2 or 3 parties (as we have done in the past) to just 1.

Since 2007, I've been going to Disney every single year, either WDW or DLR. Usually I went with my g.f.; one time I went with family members, plus a few solo trips. I fly from Eastern Canada, but still have been willing to fly all the way to California to experience whatever was new out there. Usually the formula was approximately 8 days at WDW and 2-3 days at Universal, or 5-6 days at DLR and a few days at the other Cali parks.

Now? Well, with the price hikes compared with slaps in the face like instituting cutbacks despite huge crowds, I'm rethinking my upcoming trips. We will likely do our first "Disney free" Florida vacation next year, using the Orlando Flex Ticket to spend more time at Universal, combined with parks we've never visited: Sea World Orlando, Aquatopia and Busch Gardens. We will save money (the flex ticket is about $360, a steal, and good for up to 14 days) and have a more relaxed trip. Will we miss Disney? Sure, but right now, we feel it's only worth it for us if we wait until after Pandora opens. Then we will be getting more for our vacation dollar, a new land plus the nighttime show at AK, new version of Soarin', etc.

I'm also considering a solo trip to Cali next October, in which I would be meeting up with friends there and mostly focus on doing the Halloween events at various parks. So that would include just one or two of the Halloween parties at Disneyland, and not the usual 5-6 days running around DLR.

I know I'm just one tourist, less than a drop in the bucket for this company. But if they can take one extremely loyal Disney fanatic like me and turn me into a much more casual, let's-see-what-else-I-can-do-instead visitor, I feel that says a lot. Besides, I've read countless posts similar to what I've written above. All the WDC's cynical moves, let's-see-what-we-can-get-away-with bean counter calculations, and thinly disguised contempt for their walking wallets -- uh, I mean guests -- has really rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Everyone has his limits, and I think I've reached mine. It doesn't mean I'm quitting Disney entirely, but they'll be seeing a lot less of me in the future (and all the people with whom I visit).

In that respect, I'm sure there are lots of others in the same boat.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't cancel your trip due to reports of 'cutbacks' I have several friends and family who have been there the past few months- not one has complained.

If you just want another vacation besides Disney, that is totally understandable! WDW will never be my family's only destination for the year, or even while in Florida.

I just get so sad when I see people make a statement like that. There is a lot of negative reports/negative experiences on here. BUT- there are also great reports/wonderful experiences here as well, unfortunately they just don't seem to gain as much popularity as the negative ones.

Whatever you decide, have fun! But please base your decision on where you want to go, not about things that are being said. I have a facebook newsfeed full of photos from the recent trips I just spoke of...like I said, not one of those people reported anything bad/cutback/etc. If you look for problems anywhere then you can find them. If you just look for a good time- you can find that as well :)

We all have our own breaking points. I'm just amazed at the wide range of replies here to people who are not happy with the direction Disney is going lately. One minute someone is saying "Well, if you don't like it don't go, that's more room for me". The next minute someone is dismissing any claims of a lesser product and telling them not to cancel.

This is a cost/benefit ratio we each have to make for ourselves. What I find "worth it" is probably different from what you find "worth it". Same for the PP as well I imagine.

I shouldn't engage HOWEVER-

I completely stand by my above statement.
If you don't want to go because you would rather go somewhere else- totally understandable.
If you don't go because you are hearing "some" people say that there has been cutbacks and had a bad experience- yes, I think that's a mistake. Because there are thousands of people who recently and currently are having a FANTASTIC experience at WDW. A negative review is always louder than a positive one.

You yourself have said that you are against 'reserved' seating and dining packages, because it doesn't allow you to be at the exact "front and center" of the stadium. So no one should be able to get that by paying extra.
You have repeatedly said that you are against DAH.
But, oddly enough, you also said that you have no issue with MK closing at 7 for a party, or the price of said party.

Why? Because you like and take advantage of the parties. But you don't want to advantage of the dining package or DAH, because they aren't worth it, to you.

My entire point is this- Look at what other people may see value in. Look beyond yourself and understand that just because you do not see value that someone else may see it. Which is why all of these upcharges are OPTIONAL.

To the pp who is considering not going to WDW- decide for yourself...and what decision is best. I 100 PERCENT believe that a vacation is what you make it, and that you will see what you want to see. Not just with a vacation, but with anything in life.

I view the hard ticket parties differently because I have been to many of them (maybe 15? I lost track). And I continue to see value. They offer unique things you can't experience during a regular park day.

I'm sorry my view on things isn't black and white and easy to figure out. I'm complicated like that, as I'm sure are many other Disney guests. I saw someone say they hadn't cared about all the rising prices, then for some reason the parking upsell pushed them over the edge into "I'm over this". I totally understand how they felt.

Many of us rely on anecdotal stories from others to help gauge whether we think the value will be there for us. Most people can't afford to drop anywhere from $5K to $15K just to "see".

I'm curious. Do you have a breaking point for the cost of a Disney trip? Most people do, and unfortunately many of us are reaching the point where we're listening to others about what's going on in the parks and re-evaluating whether we think the value will be there for us.

If it was a $10 movie we were talking about, I would say "Go. See the movie. Decide for yourself." But I certainly can't fault anyone for being more careful when the cost of a Disney trip is on the line. But then again, as the title of this thread points out, not everyone is in the same boat. Maybe some are more able to take that sort of a costly chance.

It isn't about your view being black or white. It is about by your own admission- you see value in the parties- so you don't care if MK closes early.

But you don't see value in a dining package- so you think they are unfair and shouldn't be offered.

That is hypocrisy at it's finest.

I'm not being a jerk. Just hoping that maybe you will understand that just because you don't like something doesn't mean that it won't benefit someone else.
