I married a wonderful man who was a crazy reckless teen. I was considered a "good girl"/honor student, yet I made sooo many mistakes as a teen. I raised 2 daughters and thought I'd never get them safely through their teens. I've been there to hold my friends' hands when their teens have screwed up. And now I have a granddaughter who is a teen. And I know she will make her fair share of mistakes. I just hope and pray that of all the stupid things she'll try to pull the next few years, none will cost her her life.
Of course it was a stupid thing to do from a mature perspective. But thinking like a teen, it's not so irrational to jump a fence and enter a restricted area to try to get a favorite cap. Thinking like a teen, you know it's not safe, but you don't think it's ever gonna happen to you...We all did things as teens that were just as stupid. We were very lucky. This kid was not. He won't get a chance to learn from his mistake as the rest of us did. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
