Not crazy about Vero

It certainly is okay not to be comfortable with VB. I for one am real disappointed if the waves are not knock you off your feet types at least some of the time. We each have our own needs. I think Margaritas help make the beach seem bigger and the sand softer. :beach:

OMG Rob, you would have loved the waves at VB in October when we were there!! I couldn't venture on the beach had a bad ankle but you would have had a ball!!!:woohoo:

We are with you....we didn't like it. The beach sucked and the town was boring. I had a hard time with all the rocks and shells on the beach. My son was about 4 at the time and it was so terrible, he couldn't dig or play in it.

The resort is beautiful....just boring.

I should add 50 of my points are there....I bought them when they were doing the sale to sell out the resort. I do not see me ever using these points for VB.

Yes I was there a few days before you and the waves were awesome! Did I mention how HOT it was? :)

:confused3:confused3:confused3 I've built many a sand castle at VB.

we have been going to VB for about 5 years usually for 2 or 3 days at the end of our vacation, and next July we hope to go again, this time with family 10 in total so i am over the moon to find so many people disappointed ,hopefully this will make the 7 month window easier

I have to agree with the OP. In Aug 08 we stayed at BCV for 9 nights followed by 4 night cruise on the Wonder. We thought it would a good idea to head to VB for the last five nights of our holiday, as a relaxing way to finish off the trip.

We arrived at VB in the pouring rain, which didn't help. I should point out that Tropical Storm Faye had just passed through, which had left a lot of debris and caused extensive corrosion to the beach.

For some reason, it just didn't have the same ambience of the WDW resorts. Also, I didn't like the rooms with regards to their decor, lighting, cleanliness etc.

I suggested a few days into the stay, that perhaps I should contact MS regarding staying back at WDW for our last night or two. It was met with approval all round and I managed to get a studio at AKV. Definitely a good decision!!

Perhaps with all the excitement of staying at BCV and going on the cruise, a stay at VB was too much of a change.

Having said all that, we may return someday, when the kids have grown up and moved on and we will have no choice but to slow down:rotfl2:

That said, the entire region rolled up the carpet at 9:00 every nite which we found odd. W

This is the one thing we didn't like about VB---my dh joked it was like "the old folks home" because it does get very dead after 9 pm.

But other than that....we love it ! I just sat out in my beach chair this past May and watch the waves for hours---caught a dolphin swimming by very close to the beach---just heavenly to me to be away from the hustle and bustle sometimes. I think it does help to research the area before going and check out some of the local sights during the day. Since I'm accustomed to Jersey beaches, I find Vero Beach really beautiful. The water seems clearer and bluer to me.

But comparing VB to any WDW resort is just like comparing apples and oranges. These two locations were intended to deliver an entirely different experience. We love WDW (of course ! :goodvibes), but also very much appreciate the ability to unwind and truly relax at VB. We are beach people too :thumbsup2

To OP, we are similar to you. We went last year on spring break and planned 5 nights there. And for the first 2 days, it was great..we loved the hotel, beach, view, pool, Shutters was great, but then started running out of things to do. We also would rather have a vacation (including the kids who are 8 & 5) where we're doing stuff and not just on the beach. We ended up the last 2 days of our trip at disney too..we had annual passes, so just need the room. It was great! We all agreed we liked Vero and would go back, but maybe for 2 days, not for a long vacation.

Thanks guys for all of your input. I'm glad we aren't the only ones that weren't thrilled with VB. But again I see we are in the minority. It was just my DH and myself that went. We don't have young children. They are both grown and married and we have a 5 month old beautiful granddaughter. My comment to my DH was that I guess this means we aren't old yet since we weren't content with just sitting around. :rotfl: The resort just seemed to be missing the ambiance that the DVC resorts at WDW have. :santa:

VB is not for everyone due in part to it's isolation and residential location. We've enjoyed it when we've gone but would understand if others didn't.

I completed my first trip to VB the second week of November. I liked how different it is from the parks. It is just very relaxing. I liked being at the beach although I didn't think the beach was very nice. I would go back to stay every few years and for a maximum stay of 2 or 3 days. I understand how some may not like it, there are definitely some parts where it is lacking. But still, a day at the beach beats a day at office. :goodvibes

We spent a week at VB-March of 2007. It was sunny and warm so we had a great time. We're beach people and spent hours on the beach (I remember the beach as fairly wide?) and then by the pool with a view of the ocean while drinking one of those margaritas! We would venture out in the evenings to some nice seafood place and come back and sit on our balcony and listen to the ocean. Then read for a while and go to bed-it had been a tough fall and winter and it was just the kind of trip we needed that year. We did spend a day at the Kennedy Center and then drive home along the coast. I can see where keeping kids-especially teens -amused all week might be a different story.

We vacationed at the beach in Maine from the time I was born till my 20's. First we camped and then later as the families grew we rented beach cottages and Vero reminds me so much of those wonderful days.

I think the misconception comes from it being a Disney resort, some people expect theme park activity.

It's beach, pool and relaxation. If I could ever get into HH, I expect it would be the same type of relaxing environment. i look forward to my next Vero Beach stay!

This is why I don't forsee us visiting VB anytime soon.. we're just so used to doing something on vacation....

DH and I went to Vero about two years ago and stayed two nites. I did not care for the beach too big of a dropoff, but did enjoy our OVIR. You could hear the waves all the time. We loved laying by the pool and relaxing. The green cabin room was great to sit out and see the ocean. The area is very quiet. I don't think it is great if you are looking for a very active vacation. I don't think I would spend more than a few days there, but we did enjoy it.

I still have not tried HH and I would love to go there. We can never get into the place. Well maybe this year.

OP I see you're from Jersey Shore, our family often go to many Jersey Shore beaches & would give them higher marks than Vero's for a number of reasons so I can understand how you may have been underwhelmed by Vero's. While we do like Vero Beach we prefer & absolutely love Disney's HHI resort - more dining, shopping & activities for the kids and DH & I both onsite at resort & off.

:goodvibes:
