Not cool... ppl stealing food out of the fridge/freezer @ work

Do you put your name on your things? At my last job we used to put our things in the fridge in the doc's lounge right next door. Never had a problem with the employees taking things, BUT THE DOCS! Not surprising since they generally thought none of the "rules" applied to them.

We used to have to label everything with our name when I worked in a multi-shift, multi-employee place. Inevitably, someone would still steal someone else's food. Of course, there were also the people who never threw their stuff away when it had gone bad. We'd have green, moldy oranges and all kinds of grossness in there sometimes. Blah!

I used to keep half gallon boxes of ice cream in the fridge at our old office and the president used to come down and help himself. I never complained though because if when I would open the empty box there would be a $ 10.00 bill in it.

I might put a note in the fridge in large letters that said

"I KNOW who has been taking my food, I saw you doing it, but don't want to embarass you. Please stop or I will have to talk to you directly." You could add that you would also tell the boss, but if it turned out to be the boss who was doing it then the threat would meaningless....

This happened at my job. I got fed up, and I started packing my lunch (when I take it) in my softside lunch bag and using an ice pack to keep everything cool until I am ready to eat.

My company used to supply coffee (including flavored coffee), all types of teas, hot chocolate (regular, low sugar and mini marshmallows), and individual ice tea packets.

My ungrateful coworkers began to steal whole boxes of iced tea, herbal tea and even the paper towels that were stocked in the kitchen. As a result, my company now supplies coffee and regualr tea only. The coffee machines use individual packets of coffee which only work with the machines we have at work, so that eliminates the theft. Gone are the iced tea and hot chocolate.

I just don't understand how people do things like that with no remorse. The sense of entitlement some people have is amazing!!!

Yeah my name was everything.... and it was the only hot pockets in the freezer. It's not that I mind them eating it but a note would have been nice, replacing it would have been nicer... and leaving the box to make me think there was still a hot pocket is plain rude.

I work for the state of alaska... trust me, the ppl in my office can afford to buy hot pockets...

I used to keep a small amount of milk for my cereal (with my name on the container.) in the fridge at work. Just enough for one bowl. I noticed it being gone a couple of days, but didn't know who was using it. One day, the department secretary came up to me and said, "I've been using your milk for my coffee, I hope you don't mind." What do you say to someone that dense and clueless????? (That's what Cremora is for?) I actually did tell her that it was just enough for me and me alone, and I think she was offended!!!

Lachesis, do we work at the same place??? This sounds so familiar I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't the one who started this thread! It's almost always hot pockets here too, and WHAT is up with leaving the empty box in the freezer? Is that supposed to throw us off the thief's trail while they escape or something? Leaving the box just makes it obvious that the person was consciously stealing and not just mistaking the food for something he or she had brought!

Lean cuisines are the second most stolen food, which baffles my coworker, who (after hers had been taken) said, "They don't even taste that good!" And I've also lost sandwiches that I'd already taken bites out of. But when we label things, they stay where we put them. So I've taken to labeling not only the outside box but the individual packages inside, as well as banana and apple peels.

I love that story about the $10 in the ice cream.

I had a boss once that would come over and take your food as you were eating it. If you had fries, she'd grab the box and walk away. Grrr... she once took my fork and started eating my dinner. As soon as she put the fork down, I tossed the whole thing in the trash and told her she could finish it. We finally grouped together and let her know at a meeting that she needed to stop. She didn't, so we had to eat elsewhere.. as far from her as we could get.

I'd get a lunchbox and put a lock on it. I like the ex-lax and ipecac ideas, too.

I work in an office of about 10 people...wish people would share *less* food...we've got an offering table that is always piled high with goodies!

The communal fridge is hardly ever used for more than juices or yogurt as most people head out for lunch, but just *imagining* a coworker running off with my stuff...there'd be FIREWORKS!!!
