Not chosen to be a bridesmaid - anyone ever disappointed like me?

Oh- that makes sense now. Where I live we don't have cake receptions so the though of you standing guarding a cake for 5 hours seemed a little comical.:rotfl:

Thats what I was thinking. I have never ever been to a reception that was not catered and out in a catering hall or that served just cake and punch. Its always like a 4-5 hour ordeal and after dinner and the dances they wheel the cake out into the center and do the whole ceremonial cutting of the cake, then they wheel it back to the kitchen, cut it and serve it.

Thank you for all the kind words. I am definitely going. She's still my friend and if I care to keep it that way, I have to go.

Oh, and if there's cake security at this wedding they better watch out for me. I'll be vulnerable. I might just have to take them out and get myself a nice chunk. ;)

toss a few marbles on the floor as they do the wedding bouquet toss-it'll cause a nice diversion:rotfl:

That's really terrible. There are some really bad jobs, in my opinion guest book is one of them, but cake monitor? What is that did you have to make sure no one touched the cake? If you saw a speck of dust did you have to blow it in the other direction?

I had to be a "Punch Nazi" at my cousin's wedding. There was not enough punch because more people showed up than planned (ahh....the gracious custom of open church!) to the reception in the church basement. I had to serve punch out of these microscopic cups that reminded me of bathroom Dixie cups for rinsing out your mouth. I was on portion control because little kids kept coming up and chugging all the punch :drinking: . It was a mess.
No food, just mixed nuts and the ever-present pastel mints for a reception that went on and on. No dancing, no music and NO PUNCH FOR YOU!! :dance3:

Also, I was the only cousin not asked to be in the wedding (there are 15 of us!!!) besides a 6 year-old. Before my promotion to Punch Nazi, I subbed as the Guest Book Attendant because the groom's sisters who said they would do it refused at the last minute. I was happy to help out but would have preferred to remain a spectator!:bitelip:

Hugs to OP!

ya know, come to think of it, the only wedding i've been to in decades that had a guest book attendant was one in which one of the guests flat out refused to come if her pre-teen dd could'nt. so rather than tick off someone who apparantly held some kind of power over the brides family, they opted to designate her as the guest book attendant so she would'nt look out of place as the only under 21'er in attendance (still looked out of place and appeared to be miserable when she realized pretty quickly that despite being the only kid she was not going to be the center of attention).

pretty much the guest books at weddings in these parts are just left on a podium at the entrance to the inner church, and the groomsmen direct the guests to sign in before they take them to their seats.

'cake security', 'punch nazi'-all these titles remind me of a friend who owned a fast food place, she said whenever someones nose was out of joint about not being appreciated she would make up some weird title to bestow on them as a little pick me up ('condiment aquistion co-ordinator'-a.k.a-the person who makes sure the packets of catsup and mustard are fully stocked:rotfl2: ).

I didn't read the whole thread, but I can say I would be so happy!!! I have a friend who had said she would choose me to be a bridesmaid when she got married, but when the day came that she was engaged she didn't select me. It was ackward because she always tried to skate around talking about wedding plans. One day I just told her, I am sooooo glad you didn't pick me as a bridesmaid! She was relieved because at one point she wanted 8 bridesmaids, realistically she can only afford 4.

Hey I saved $400 in wedding attire, hair and makeup for the day. Not including $300 which would have been my portion for the bridal shower, another $100 for the group gift. I saved $800!
