Not All Treasure Is Silver And Gold, Mate - *Update 9-17* P60

I'm trying to be reasonably about our a/c...which is actually at normal levels, but sometimes, I'm sitting on the couch and just sweating. Yuck.

That is no fun. I hear you about the sweating. I spent almost all that summer inside and only went outside when was walking inside somewhere from my car or vice versa. I normally love the heat but not that summer.

I did, I had the extreme cookie dough that Friendly's makes. YUM. :thumbsup2

They don't have Friendly's out here. :sad1: I miss them. Whenever we would go visit our grandparents we would go to Freeport and eat at the Friendly's there. He would always let us get one of the kids ice cream treats. It is one of the great memories I have with him.

I'm with ya on the heat + humidity! YUCK! And I'm not even pregnant!! Yesterday it hit 100 here, I think today is supposed to be cooler though. Fingers crossed...

It seems to be a bit cooler here today as well. More manageable, that's for sure. :goodvibes

Do they sell the Friendly's ice cream in your grocery store? That's actually where this came from.

No sorry I wasn't very clear in my reply. I went walking down memory lane instead. :goodvibes No they don't have either out here. It is one of the things I miss from the east.

I keep hearing all these great things about Friendly's...never seen one in my neck of the woods!! Might have to google it and see what I'm missing out on LOL!

Aw, Jen, you'll just have to come up here and visit so I can take you to one. :thumbsup2

Hi TK! I've been MIA for a few months now, but I'm getting a feeling that I need to go on vacation again and I came back to check on my favorite trip report writer. I am so sorry to hear about your mom, I know words don't do justice for your grief, but I was just so sad to read about her passing. I'm glad you can talk about your memories of this trip with her and the rest of your family, I hope it brings you some happy moments.
I can't believe your at the end of your pregnancy - was I gone that long? This heat must be so difficult for you!
Anyway, I hope you feel up to writing and I'm back following along.:goodvibes

HI!!!! :goodvibes

I'm so happy to see you here. Especially since you called me your favorite trip report writer. ;)

Seriously, thanks. That's very sweet.

We're all still sort of reeling from my mom's passing, and trying to form new lives without her. For me, it's extremely difficult given how close we were. I take it one day at a time, one moment to the next. I feel lucky that I have a new baby to look forward to, as I'm sure he'll be providing PLENTY of distraction once he's born. Between him and the five year old I'm sure to have my hands full and I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm hoping to post an update soon, but I'm having a hard time with it. I have one written, but we're starting to get towards the end of the trip, and this is the last family trip I took with my mom.

Bringing the trip report close to an end is getting harder for me.

LOL, I read about ya'lls weather, and I think--ds was born Feb 15. The week after he was born, it was warm enough to take him for walks. I think all of the flowers were blooming already.

My DS was born Feb 15th too! :goodvibes But there were definitely no flowers blooming the next week!

That sounds amazing, but I don't think they sell Friendly's out here either. :sad2:

Completely understand this. Take your time, remember, laugh, cry, and heal. The report can wait, your heart cannot.

I feel very sad for you.

There is nothing like this ice cream. It's got cookie dough chunks, with mini chocolate chips and cookie dough swirl. :thumbsup2

Thank you very much. :goodvibes

It's just been one of those weeks. I don't talk about it a lot (except in therapy) so I'm sort of constantly processing. I think the closer I get to my due date, the harder it's getting for me.

I'm excited for the birth of our baby, but really missing that mom won't be there, and I've been thinking about when DS was born and everything she did for me. She was an amazing woman, I was so lucky.

Yes, childbirth is one of those times when we definitely want our Mommies, don't we? There is nothing to make you appreciate a parent more, than becoming one. I think we just have to take the best of whatever they gave us, and resolve to pass that love along to the next generation.

Your Mom obviously loved you fully, and I am sure that you both know that you will be passing that legacy forward. There is nothing more important than that, particularly in a day and age where families are so stress and, often, fractured. Cherish and nourish that legacy, and she will never leave you.

:grouphug:

OK TK.... I've caught up!!!!

Here are a few random thoughts.... :scratchin

I wish I was with you watching your DH and FIL sipping tea, heck I wish I was joining in with them! LOL

I'm glad your DH was able to accept that his father should be in all of your lives. :)

Capn. Jack Sparrow for your DHs costume.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I wish I had the hair to pull off the look but I had to go with the hat with the braided horse hair! LOL

I can totally relate how WDW can bring back wonderful memories and be an 'escape' from reality. The first time I saw MK was on the ferry. I was holding my daughter and she was getting so excited. I thought we were going to just another amusement park. We made it through the gates and came out to the beginning of Main St. I looked down the road and saw the castle and then looked at my wife and daughter. I was overwhelmed with emotion and I could feel the release of all the worries that we have had to put up with for the last year. It was the greatest feeling in the world. Every time I walk into the MK, I feel the same way.

You know what? That's just the sort of tea you would have appreciated, and from your trip report, I can tell you would have felt right at home! ;)

Me, too. I thank God for that blessing.

My DH has some serious hair. :lmao: For most of our life together, his hair has been consistently longer than mine. I'm so interested to see if the baby gets his hair. It's absolutely gorgeous, black and thick and wavy.

Our first son has my hair texture exactly, just a different color. He's a beautiful auburn colored redhead. Of course, I'll be tickled if we end up with another redhead, but what are the chances?

We joke about it all the time. Maybe this one will be blond! Then we'll have every hair group represented, black, brown, red, and blond! :lmao:

Oh, thank you for sharing that memory with me. What a wonderful feeling. You describe it so perfectly. I wish I had that level of escapism to look forward to right now. And the view of the MK from the ferry is really priceless, as is the anticipation that goes with it.

Okay, don't let my mom fool you for one second. She LOVES this meet and greet just as much as I do.

And quite frankly, if I'm not able to meet Captain Jack Sparrow, even if I do have my own standing right next to me, there's one meet and greet at the Halloween parties that I absolutely cannot miss.

I mean, would you want to miss this???

I have actually missed this character, found out his schedule, and gone back later when I knew he would be there.

Oh, yes, my friends. I'm a groupie, and from the look on Tarzan's face, he knows it. :lmao:

It's men with dreads, what can I say?

So that's how we come to the next memory in this delightful collection, and that's my meet and greet with Tarzan. Much like Tink considers the Polynesian resort to be her Poly, I consider this guy to be my Tarzan. And quite frankly, he is on loan to the rest of you folks until I get to see him again. :lmao:

Let's just say that I haven't always seen this Tarzan at every party, and when I do run into him, it really makes my evening. I mean, look at him! You all do remember my DIS name, yes? ::yes::

A little back story. It was the summer after my sophomore year in college. I was doing an internship at our local art museum in the administration department. It was a great internship, it was a great summer, but I had some sort of quiet discontent in me that I couldn't put my finger on. Sort of ironic considering the state of affairs in my life right now.

And then Tarzan came out in theaters. And I loved it. I loved it with a passion I rarely feel for any film, never mind that it was put out by Disney. I loved the lush scenery, the new animation concepts, the characters, the music. I loved it all. Something in it spoke to me, and I went to see it, in the theater ten times. I even called out from the internship a couple of times and went to see it. That's about the extent of my naughtiness in college.

I may not have partied in college (and I went to art school, so picture that), but I skipped work to go to a Disney film. And if that doesn't speak volumes about me, I don't know what does.

I even insisted one of my college professors (whom I was very close with and who has since passed as well) come see it with me; he did and he loved it. That professor is another story for another time, but that summer, that movie was my salvation.

And meeting Tarzan brings back a little sense of that peace. I'd give anything to have that feeling right now.

Never mind the serious heart palpitations as well. ;)

So when you're meeting a man who's basically wearing a loin cloth, where do you put your hands?

WDWSeptOct_09-0902-1.jpg

Well, fortunately, Tarzan, although lord of the jungle and all things wild (tee hee), happens to be a complete gentleman, and will take your hands in his, prom photo style so that you may have your romantic shot together.

And believe me. Even if he's meet and greeting with Jane, or Turk, or whoever, I will politely take pictures with them first, and then ask very nicely if I may have my picture alone with Tarzan. I remember one year, Jane told me, in her delightful British accent, "Happens all the time."

Now, Mom will insist that she's just doing this for me, but as I said, don't let that fool you. She likes it just as much as I do.

Maybe even more... ;)

Great Update! We got to meet Jane and Terk but alas no Tarzan. Thanks for the eye candy - gives me something to think about as I am working today! :lmao:

And you may feel free to think about him.

All. Day. Long.

;)

Check out his eyes, they're so blue! :goodvibes

The title of this update made me LOL! :lmao: Love that he does it prom style so as not to encourage anyone....;)
