Not able to link MagicBand - 5 limit?

On my MDE account, under my name, I already have 6 MagicBands (4 resort, 2 fancy purchased) and a number of cards (2 used/expired Maingates, 3 used/expired holiday celebration, and the 5 upcoming for my trip). I bought a Villains MB for my upcoming trip, and when trying to link it get the following message:

"You may only convert 5 tickets per Family & Friends member. Once a ticket is used, you may link another. For assistance, call (407) 939-4357 or visit any Walt Disney World ticketing Resort location. Guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call."

I was under the impression that you could have an unlimited number of MBs? Is there something I'm doing wrong? I tried making the old media inactive, but still get the same message. Will they be able to link my extra band at the resort or did I blow $20?

Your quote says "tickets."
Are you asking about MBs or tickets?

Regardless, you can have a virtually unlimited number of MBs linked.
Alternately, you can choose to "deactivate" any of your current MBs, if you like.

Just to keep things as clear as possible-

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or FP+ info "put onto" a MagicBand.

A MagicBand just contains (and weakly "transmits") a unique serial number that is used to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

So, even if you were to lose a MagicBand, the info stays locked in your file.
Disney can just set up a new band (different serial number)
to access the info in your MDE file.
Disney can also issue ADDITIONAL MB's to a guest and each
additional band can be used for the same purposes as the first band.

So, yes, there can be multiple MB's per person, and each of them can be used by that person, but their entitlements will all be common and identical.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, or a key to a locked door.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.

The MB just unlocks the file of info, allowing it to be accessed from your MDE account when needed.

Definitely correct. We have so many MBs on our account - I've deactivated most but we certainly had/have more than 5.

Now, if we are talking about actual tickets... not sure.

It sounds like it might be an issue related to your main gates/holiday but the MB is setting it off.

I would call ticketing and see if they can remove the main gates/ expired holiday passes. The system is weird with things like that and it might just need some manual encouragement to work (I have 2 main gates listed even though I have 3 cards, 1 of which was issued after I left, but they removed all of my guest passes, and I still have the holiday tickets listed)

There is no limit to the number of MagicBands you can have, which is why I'm thinking it's related to the other media

I am trying to link a MagicBand, and yes, the error message says tickets and won't let me proceed. I enter the number (step 1), select myself (step 2), and when I hit next to move to step 3 that's when the message pops up.

Thanks @SureAsLiz, I'll give them a call. Just didn't want to waste anyone's time if this was something I could fix! Makes sense though with the special media the system would get confused.
