I am starting my adventure in the college program process...I have applied and been interviewed over the phone. I wanted to audition for a character role and after my interview I was encouraged to do so because of my dance and acting background. Well today I went to my college, which is a local community college, to talk to an advisor about college credit and the program in general....they never heard of the program. :scared1: This advisor talked to many others in the office and they also had no idea what I was talking about. I gave them general information and even a class syllabus and they still were clueless. So questions..can you do the program even though you can not earn college credit and can you still take the classes? Do you need the "ok" from your college to participate? I thought I'd ask here first and then if needed call the educational office.

Yep, you can still participate even if your school won't give you credit. Just know that if you still have health insurance through your parents, it often requires you to be a full-time student, so that could be an issue. You can receive credit through a few other schools as well but you don't have to receive credit for it!

Just like the person before me said, you do not have to go through your college to participate. You won't get credit and if you aren't recognized as a full time student you may not be covered under your parents insurance and if you have loans those might effect it also. I would try talking to your advisor again, saying you know they haven't heard of the program (alot of larger schools participate) but they should really look into it. Who knows they may end up letting you do it as a trial for the school.

Also, even though you aren't doing it through the school you can take the classes at Disney for free, however they won't count for anything so it would be taking them just to get the information!
Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. Checked on the insurance and there was a clause that said I have to be enrolled full time OR make less than a certain amount. I met the second requirement...for once I was glad I did not make too much money:lmao: So, I guess it is off to auditions in April.

My school did not accept it for credit either. What I did while on the program was withdraw for the semester and enroll at Central Michigan University. http://www.wdwcp.cmich.edu/default.htm They have a program specifically for students whose schools don't participate in the program at this point. I received 12 credits, kept my health insurance, was still able to defer my student loans, and they transferred as general electives. I wasn't able to have them count towards my major but I go to a liberal arts college so the extra electives are always helpful. Check it out - it was super cheap and the contact there (Dean Wallin) was wonderful to work with.
