Norwegian Air -- UPDATED WITH INFO (incl baggage dimensions)

RedSox68, you are putting up quite the convincing argument to book Norwegian Air! :) I am leaning towards this airline, especially since the departure from EWR is 11 pm so we don't have to take another day off from work to get to the airport. I figure the money we save by flying Low Fare+ will more than cover an extra night at our hotel. I was reading a 2016 WBTA trip report, and that person has put the bug in my head to visit Disneyland Paris before the cruise. Decisions...decisions.....

yes, I hope it is a good decision, but either way can't beat the price. A PP showed a link to book a different way, but the link does bring you to an article about booking premium. But that would have cost us another $400 each and for a late night direct flight I just didn't think it was worth the money. Plus we got exit row seats, so we will have plenty of leg room. In this case, I don't care about use of the lounge and the extra special food -- I probably won't be eating too much that late anyway.

And YES, the timing is perfect to save a work day. I am taking the day off, but will have enough time to take the dog to the kennel and get last minute things done without rushing to make a flight in rush hour. It's a win win ;) And the fact that we don't have to go all the way to JFK like we did last time is a huge plus. We'll just rent a car one-way to Hertz at Newark and we're good to go.

If you converted their checked baggage allowance from the 250x79x112, you found out that they allow a 98" bag! I just finished a chat with them to see if that is right, and apparently it is -- they allow for long thin items up to that length and weight. So converting their site from cm and kg to feet and inches and pounds, here are the allowances:

250x79x112cm = 98.4x31.1x44 inches with a max circumference of 300cm- 118inches. "Luggage" could be not only bag, but any item that is long and thin. The checked baggage can weigh a max of 20kgs (44 pounds) each.

You are permitted to carry one item of hand baggage (max. size 21.6x15.7x9 inches) and one small personal item onboard the aircraft with a total weight of 10kg (22pounds). That is total weight for BOTH items combined.

I am thinking this has to do with the fact that Norwegians love to ski and this allows for skis as luggage...

That's what I was thinking. I don't know anyone who has a 98" piece of luggage LOL

Thank you for this! I just measured our luggage and realized how generous NA is with regard to size. My fear that we'd have to buy new luggage to accommodate NA standards was unfounded. The real challenge will be keeping within weight limits.

I did notice in NA's fine print that CPAP users are supposed to coordinate with NA in advance if they want to use their CPAP machine on the flight. It could be possible that NA will require medical clearance to travel.
