Norway Cruise (+Iceland/Copenhagen/Dover) TIPS (consolidated)

If anyone has questions about Copenhagen or Denmark, feel free to ask. I live there :-)

Good Morning if you are still answering question about CPH I could really use some help. We are staying in Malmo. Our cruise leaves from Nordhavn Oceankaj. I see that we can take the train from Malmo Central to Nordhavn Street stop and we will be about 1.5 miles from the port. Are taxi's readily available outside the Nordhavn Street or should we just take the train back to the airport and grab a taxi from there or from city center.

There is National Express coach but it has many stops and takes a long time, private transfers are quick and efficient but will cost a lot.

Train is best. Any reason not to take the train? We have great public transport and if you leave St Pancrus you go on high speed trains.

You can hire a car, now driving in a London isn't for the faint hearted and we have congestion charges in London and at Dartford crossing. There is a rental car drop off just outside the port.
If I stay near Victoria Station, can I take the train from there?

yes. there are trains to Dover regularly. Be sure to ask at ticket counter if they have a 2-1 deal. We have stayed @ Doubletree and Park Place @ Victoria. I love the Victoria area--easy Tube connections to Tower of London, bus or Tube to Westminster, walk to Buckingham Palace. Lots of food options.

My daughter want to go to see the Harry Potter Studios and to see Wicked, thats why I want to stay near the theatre. We were in London last year for only 18 hours, we had a private tour for 5 hours. Saw the main landmarks, but only on the outside. What we cant miss. We are sailing on June 17, 2016.

For that it's a good location, now one thing to flag but it's not a serious issue,

There is working going on in the Victoria understand station for a new ticket office, this does mean there is heavy traffic in the area, ie trucks coming and going, but if your out during the day the inconvenience will be minimal against the location.

Near the theatres, near Buckingham palace and The Mall. On three tube lines, District Circle and Victoria and National Rail there goes to Dover and Gatwick.

Harry Potter is in the Watford area, you need to get a train there and then the studios shuttle. So that's " Victoria" line to Euston, and National rail to Watford a junction.

While it may be more expensive than the train, Golden Tours also runs buses to the Warner Brothers studios. Their main departure point is near Victoria Station. The price includes your admission ticket and there are numerous times. We're doing that after the 6/29 cruise.

Yes that would be good, it will depart from Victoria coach station just around the side of the mainline station. Its (+) and (-) and will balance itself out.

Train the main bit is faster, the coach will get caught in traffic but its direct and no changes.

My kids and I went to the Warner Bros Studios from central London this fall via the train. It was very straightforward and the studio bus picks you up right at the train station in Watford Junction. We had a GREAT time! I have three superfans and they adored it; spent probably 3 to 4 hours there plus the bus rides and the train.

Yes a great day and easy to get to.

We are on this sailing too! My plan is to fly in a few days before sailing to see London (travel day plus two full days plus embarkation day). I'm kind of waiting to see what the Disney recommended options for ground transport and hotels are going to be. I'm sure it will be expensive but as a single mom travelling with two young teens, sometimes I have to bite that bullet.

I know, will be me and my teen daughter.

People have been getting quotes for the London hotels and they are very expensive, London is easy to get around, I wouldn't leave it to DCL. From what I have seen the DCL London hotels are not centrally located, they have the Grosvenor for example, they are very pricey. I would say book now, choose your own location, you will save a lot and it's easy to navigate London.

We are on this cruise also. We are staying in London for the week after the cruise and decided to go do the Harry Potter tour also. After researching, I found it was best to do the tour on our own. Too many people were saying that you just don't get enough time there with the group. We are going during the weekend, hoping for an easier time on the tube.

Rather than " the tube" it's national rail from Euston to Watford Junction. The Tube doesn't go there.

Hi everyone.
I'm looking at the 2016 Europe cruises that include Iceland and Scandinavia. Sooner or later I'm determined to be in the right place at the right time to see Northern Lights. Any chance of that during these cruises? Thanks

We'll, never say never, but it's unlikely. The northern lights are most often seen autumn, winter, and early spring. Remember also that in the summer you will have only a very short amount of true darkness, especially the further north you go. We are on one of those cruises this summer and I'd love to see them again. We saw them once in Denali National Park and it was amazing.

Good luck!

The quote I got was close to 800.00 a night at the Grovesnor. June 15-17. I don't think we are doing that cruise now.:scared: I'm pretty much undecided at the moment. I'm not a single mom, but my dh does not want to take the time off to travel to Europe so it will be me and my young teen boys. We may do an Alaska cruise in May as a family, and then I could take the boys on a land London/Iceland trip in September, or we may do the Norway cruise. So confused. We're cruising to Hawaii in Sept so I'm having a hard time thinking past that. I guess I need to make a decision about next year soon before prices go up.

NCL has an Iceland/Norway cruise mid Sept that's a great price. Several thousand less than DCL. It's also on my radar. I still think it's too early to see the northern lights.
