Norway Cruise (+Iceland/Copenhagen/Dover) TIPS (consolidated)

Airfare question - we're late to the game and I'm looking at British Air and Virgin... pretty much all my best choices tend to come out to about $5,600 for 3 people (one is an infant), flying from Seattle. I'm just curious, have others on here paid a lot less? That seems awfully high, I was expecting more like a thousand for each of us round trip, not each way. Afraid if I wait the prices might get higher... but they might get lower too!

Thanks!

I'm flying from Cleveland so not much help on Seattle prices but am seeing a little over $1000 per person. Virgin seems to be the best for us right now in partnership with Delta. I usually use a site to see what the options are. The NY Times just had an article about travel called "You Googled It, We Answered It" and recommended these sites to compare airfares across multiple carriers: Google Flights, Kayak.com and also Momondo.com.

"The ones I quoted are 100% private, mine is private, you could lower the already low cost by sharing if you wish, worth reading the link I provided."

Yes, sorry, I wasn't clear (and that I can't figure out how to quote now...). The ones you posted are private (though I guess you could share). I meant when you book a tour on your own, it often isn't just you, so if you want that flexibility, then you need to make sure you are booking an actual private tour. Just because it is non-DCL, doesn't mean it is just you. We've had "private" private tours that were just our family and private tours that were private in the sense of smaller, but not just us, so just that people should be careful of the fine print when they look at things if that is what they are wanting. I was rather surprised one time to find that our private tour included two other families in a minibus when I read the tour as a private vehicle tour. My fault for not checking more closely, but anyways.

As for a DCL bus turning around for just you, no, of course not. As I said, the family went back to the ship on their own, though the guide helped arrange something. I'm assuming a cab of some kind, though I don't know. Just that in the unlikely event that I was on a tour and needed to get back to my child, then the cost of a cab is not really a factor in my thought process. Maybe it is for some. I was more concerned with DCL being able to find me. Honestly, that's my biggest worry. It sounds like it is different for concierge guests, and that's great, but for most people, about all you can do is leave contact info with GS and hope for the best. I've had great experiences at GS and not so great, so maybe that influences my thought process. I would not personally be comfortable with giving them that info and hoping for the best in the event of an emergency. Just me. Others, I'm sure, do their own thing all the time and have no problem. No right or wrong, just what people are comfortable with.

For airfare, try skyscanner. That's a great way to track prices.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will look into those airlines! Icelandair question though - I found a good looking flight, but the layover in Iceland is 1 hour - do we have to do anything with customs, or just get from one gate to another? 1 hour is probably fine if its just one gate to another, but if customs is involved, that might not work.

No customs in Iceland, you stay in the international terminal. Ours is short like that too. :)

There out very soon. They have to be out by the 130 days mark for concierge to ore order at 125 days.

Except they are not. At least for the 6/6 Norway. 124 days to cruise. I guess concierge is just SOL except for what is up for Bergen and Alesund so far (which we know are not complete, at least for Alesund, because of the Frozen announcment...)

You and I can see how disorganised they are as they should be up by now.

Would you expect DCL to offer a post-cruise excursion for Copenhagen that drops at the airport for later flights? If not, any suggestions for luggage storage?

Good Morning America this morning has beautiful shots of the volcano in Iceland via drone. Really spectacular!!

Stavenger and Geiranger excursions are now on the DCL website. There is still no pricing information, however.

As said going up!

Finally! So DCLs claim of "approximately 120 days" was pretty accurate. But I suspect they are not complete, no "frozen" excursion listed for Alesund as was announced....

While it is nice to see options, without pricing I find the information pretty meaningless however. In the end, we are mainly planinng ot do our own thing at every port anyway, but if one of the guided walking tours would be fairly priced (I can dream at least, can't I??? ;-)) we might be tempted to do one of those.

You can google or go to other cruise boards and search for companies that run walking tours and book it yourself. Some ports even have free walking tours available (like Copenhagen).

Stavanger prices are up! :thumbsup2 I called DCL earlier this morning to ask for some excursion prices and he gave them to me. I had explained they didn't show on the website and he was forwarding to their IT department and it wasn't even 10 minutes later they were on the website. Not sure if that did the trick or just lucky timing. I saw Alesund when I glanced earlier too!

I really can't believe how long it is taking DCL to put up the port adventures. Aren't some concierge guests on the early Norway cruises already in their booking periods? As priority booking of PAs is one of the big perks of concierge--especially for the classic ships--I'd be upset. Wonder if they will adjust the dates of booking to allow for a priority period for concierge and the platinum/gold cc? We are on the Norway/Iceland cruise and I really wish they'd get the rest of them up. We are still waiting for three, I think.

I'm with you - literally :) Yes we still need Akureyri, Kristiansand, and Kirkwall. I'm hoping these are indeed finalized by my check in date (Plat) on 3/1. That would be very disappointing as you mentioned, to get to that point and not be able to pick or even see them. Fingers crossed!

We are on the 9 night Norway fjords cruise. I can't seem to find the port adventures that everyone is saying are listed? What am I mssing?
