Norway College Program kids alerted to pavilion closing?

Not sure what the source for this is - but I've seen on Instagram a LE Food and Wine pin with Olaf - saying Scandinavia. Maybe pointing towards a renaming/retheming of the whole pavilion?

Tried to add a link... but no such luck. Seriously, I can't add a link???

Oh no! :( We love riding the Maelstrom! I get that it's not a super-exciting thrill ride, but it's something we do every time we go to WDW.

So now you'll be riding Anna's Frozen River ride... and instead of the big Troll, you'll have a big singing Rock serenading you.

What's the difference? None of it's real, anyway.

The problem is, Frozen is not set in Norway. It looks like Norway if you look at the landscaping, architecture and costumes. But it's set in the fictional kingdom of Arandelle. So to re-theme the Norway pavilion as Frozen is just silly.

However, it is very heavily influenced by the Scandinavia with a heavy emphasis on Norway. The movie has also created an uptick in Norway tourism. So, it has influenced the Country and made people more interested in that culture.

And for Disney NOT to bring Frozen into the Norway would be stupid and short-sighted.

Why? They have four parks with empty spaces &/or buildings in some of them that they could put a Frozen attraction & M&G in. Why is it stupid to do it anywhere but Norway? They could put Arandelle anywhere. Are you saying it's stupid for them to spend a cent more than absolutely necessary to update the parks? If so, no wonder they keep taking the cheap route. Many fans appear to be good with that. Personally, I'd rather they not replace one attraction with another. Epcot, AK & DHS all need more attractions. Instead off adding to the parks they prefer to make bandaid fixes that are as cheap as possible & pass them off as a "new" attraction. In the end, you still have the same number of attractions as they started with.

Yep. The bean counters are definitely behind this. They are adding an attraction without adding an attraction.

It's like they have something against increasing the number of attractions, even though FP+ has highlighted a need for just that in at least 2 parks.

:thumbsup2 I agree, fix up the old body wars pavilion. Make it frozen land! Plenty of need for new attractions.

Now that I think about it, I bet it's more about the labor costs of operating an additional attraction more than it's about the cost of building the actual attraction.

Trolls are a part of Norse mythology.

Frozen - made up by Disney. Maybe in a few hundred years it can filter into Norse mythology (seriously doubt it - a .00000000000000000001% chance is probably high) but now it's just a movie Disney says was set in Norway. And I couldn't even find anything within the movie that did anything more than feel a bit Scandinavian.

Actually, Frozen is inspired by a story written by Hans Christian Andersen, who was Danish.

The movie is set not in Norway, but in a fictional Scandinavian country called Arendelle. Norway was used as an inspiration for much of the film's look and feel, however.

The movie features tons of Nordic and Scandinavian touches. I'm not sure how you could have missed them.

Sorry, I meant that it felt Scandinavian rather than Norwegian in particular although still much more of a feel that with a few slight changes could have been several other locations. And along the way it's certainly been allowed to be thought of as set in Norway - which didn't hurt Disney with the Norway pavilion in Epcot.

However I haven't studied the film over and over either. I found it cute but not all that well developed compared to many other Disney films. When watching it though I was looking for bits that really pointed to Norway - and didn't find much at all.

So this is just my take and I could totally off the mark.

I love world showcase pavilions. I look on them as a loosely based representative of different countries. I love the international cm and the fact that most try and have items from that particular culture.

switching it a some sort of "frozen" pavilion imo simply screams "money" grab. Now it maybe because I'm lukewarm on the movie anyway. It definitely doesn't place in any of my top ten animation movies so I'm probably bias.

Lastly, I also see it as a serious lack of any type of creativity or imagination on the part of the leadership.

It's like some one made this suggestion on their way out the door on a Friday night around 4:55 pm just to be able to start their weekend.

Just because it is the most financially successful movie doesn't mean squat. In a time, probably not too far off in the future, when the NEXT movie comes out and surpasses Frozen, and Disney is going through this same process, what will be left of Frozen? 2 characters you'll be able to wait in a small line for and a ride that will be of walk on status or at least a minimal wait.

There will always be a Disney sequel... whether it's released or not in the theaters is another story (a lot are straight to DVD), but I'm pretty sure just about every (not all) Disney film has a 2nd to it...

Do you enjoy riding Dumbo any less because more popular movies have been released?

Hey, why not turn Morocco into a Star Wars land then? Not only would Morocco not allow it but it would be ridiculous.

Disney could set any made-up movie anywhere and turn any country into that movie. Just think of what they could do with the US pavilion.

Plus the comments about Dumbo and Peter Pan don't mean anything. Those attractions didn't ruin the theming of an area but fit in where they are quite nicely.

We hate the idea of frozen coming to Maelstrom. Dd is so upset that it will be closed during our next trip, we arrive one day after rumored closure. Like other posters, Disney has a ton of places to put frozen theme, why ruin Norway:(

Ok, there are so many things going on here it was actually difficult to keep up with the conspiracy theories throughout the thread. 1. The article only says the cast members working in attractions and merchandise will be relocated. This means that food and beverage is remaining untouched. This also means that Arkushus should remain open throughout the duration of the referb. Additionally, Kringa should be left untouched as well. 2. Maelstrom might be your personal favorite, but you are a minority. In my time at Disney two weeks ago I cannot even count the number of people who disposed the ride. They said it smelled like rotten fish, or mildew. For me? It was boring. Now, I don't expect you or anyone else to agree with me. But from the reactions I heard from people getting off the ride it really wasn't people's favorites. Why would Disney waste money on an entirely new concept when they can very easily tweet an old concept and bring it up to date? What I really think is going to happen is the use of Frozen characters and themes to tell the story if Norway. Like we will be guided by Anna Elsa Olaf Kristof and Sven through the beauty that is Norway. Now, that us PURE speculation but it is an educated guess based on Donald Duck in Mexico. 3. The chart some of you keep reporting showing the top grossing movies is being read completely out of context. Frozen is number 101 because the final analysis of hug at chart was conducted on the last day of 2013. Roughly six weeks after the movie came out. In six weeks it made it to number 101. That is pretty incredible. Now, since then Frozen has completed its world wide release and has climbed to a total far exceeding one billion dollars. That number exceeds any of the numbers for any of the other movies on the list that has been posted. Additionally, many of the movies on said list enjoyed multiple release dates in theaters. That additionally needs to be taken into consideration as Frozen has only been released once. 4. They are not going to call the Norway pavilion Arendale. That makes zero sense. I also find it hard to believe they are going to change up the outside appearance too much as they are not conducting referbs of Arkushus. If Disney is anything they are streamline. They are not going to let stuff stick out like a sore thumb. 5. The museum isomer of you I are trashing featuring the items which inspired animators is actually a pretty cool museum. Because of the Frozen theme, my daughter learned a ton about Norway. It is classy. It wasn't tacky or ill conceived. Disney doesn't really do tacky, unless it's on purpose.... See DinoLand USA. 6. Disney is not 100% about kids. However, it is a land of magic. Magic and pixie dust exist In all of the parks not just Magic Kingdom. My daughter loved meeting Aladin and Jasmine in Lamps of Wonder and because of the movie tie in had a conversation starter with many of the Moroccan cast members. She learned how to say hello, thank you and good bye. She asked tons of questions about the carpets and the le laps she saw in the get shops. The movie tie in didn't make it less adult, it made it so my daughter could relate to what she was seeing. If we can utilize elements of childhood to help educate than why is that bad? 7. As far as a meet and greet for Anna and Elsa. Just... Duh. They need another location where Anna and Elsa can be seen. They have to release some of the strain at MK. Remember, for the first month and a half after thee movie came out it wasn't the splash hit yet. The location without the queue was good enough. Then, in January it exploded. Let it Go became a smash hit that the world fell in love with. Disney was not ready for it. They reacted fast though and are making wonderful ground. Frozen isn't going away. Building it into the parks is the future of Disney. It is just a fact. 8. Hollywood Studios would be an awesome place for frozen, however.... I honestly believe Hollywood Studios has been left the way it is because it will see a massive Star Wars expansion. We should hear more about this soon as Igar has already eluded to it. I think Star Wars will be Disney's Diagon Ally and Hogsmede. Again, this is purely speculation but it makes a ton of sense. All in all... Disney is fluid. It is ever changing and will continue to be so. You're not going to like all of huge changes, you're going to love some. But no matter what they're going to happen. They are going to listen to their customer base and respond accordingly. The world wants more Frozen, so they're going to get it. I'm sorry if you don't like the movie. But, in that, you are a minority. Disney will do what is best for the moms ostensibly people to maximize their profits. They are a business, once they stop making money they will stop being what they are.

FWIW, Tinker's mom, I thought this was a great, rational, intelligent post.

That can really be said about all the pavilions. I love walking around the World Showcase, it is a beautiful spot. But they are really nothing more than gift shops and they don't represent the true cultures of the countries, at least not the present day culture.

Exactly my thoughts.

I have seen some rumors of a closure towards the end of Sept. Has anyone heard an estimate of the length of the closure?

TIA
