Norway College Program kids alerted to pavilion closing?

My son's favorite ride is Maelstrom (he is autistic) and my great grandfather was from Norway. I will be sad when I go make FP for our December trip and can't get them. At least I have my bottle of Laila!

Keep Norway, or expand the theme to include all Scandinavian countries. Then build a new area at Hollywood Studios for Frozen that includes an e-ticket attraction. It's not like Disney doesn't have the money to upgrade a small area in World Showcase and build a new area in HS (which really is lacking in attractions).

Disney would never do it, but technically there is a "country space" between Mexico and Norway. Since it doesn't look like any additional real world countries are coming anytime soon, they could theoretically build Arendelle next door to Norway.

Not that I want to defile World Showcase in that manner anymore than I want Frozen in Maelstrom, but building Arendelle as a fully developed concept a la Diagon Alley behind London could be beneficial for both guests and Disney. They should do it in MK, but given new Fantasyland I think MK development is done for the foreseeable future. Hollywood Studios would be the next possibility but poor park placement doesn't give much room for expansion, and Star Wars would probably take priority, and if they flesh out the back with more Pixar. They could add an arctic area to AK, but Avatar. So if they are gonna put the darn thing in Epcot anyway, they could at least do it right and use the unused country space that exists and go big with it.

Now wait just a minute. Here's something I hadn't thought of. Laila. Will we still be able to purchase Laila? Will the pavilion still smell of Laila? These are things I must know.

If it's not going to be avail at Norway, I saw Laila perfume/body collection at DTD last month. I think was at TrenD over by WoD.

I love laila too! As a backup, Nordstrum has been selling it for years.

Ok so the speculation about the Norway potential refurb may include Akershus? Uh oh, we were going to try for an ADR for my 4 y/o DNiecey who loves the princesses, since CRT will be under refurb while we are there (Feb). If Akershus does close down temporarily, and it runs in to Feb, and the CRT refurb dates, that would be very poor planning. Whats the backup? 1900 Park Fare?

Of course we'll miss Maelstrom if this does come to pass, and Kringla bakery maybe too?

Oh Disney why are you doing this to us, don't you know it's all about my plans, don't you know you're suppose to check with me first?? :lmao:

I really don't think any of us are the target audience -

kids will be thrilled to have Frozen in Norway.

Thank you. It's funny that so many seem to get bent out of shape over Frozen's popularity and decry the phenomenon it's become. First, like most things, everyone's tastes differ. But more importantly, the "hype" comes from the children who fell in love with it. I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that kids probably have some different preferences for their entertainment and movies than adults.

Here you Go.....

As of the end of 2013, Frozen was #101

Some of the highest grossing box office films as adjusted for inflation have never had a ride associated with them. Some have not even had a temporary attraction or Meet and Greet.

This list is taken from a list of 200 of the highest grossing box office films as adjusted for inflation. I didn't list past 100 except the "Frozen" notation. I don't think I can post the link. But a google search worked. It is an interesting list. A whole bunch of films featured at US/IOA are also in there. I do like movie tie-ins to theme park attractions...

BUT NOT IN WORLD SHOWCASE.

There are a lot of attractions and meet and greets in that list.

Also, many of those movies have had multiple releases over periods of years to drive up totals. As the site says:

Most pre-1980 pictures achieved their totals through multiple releases, especially Disney animated features which made much of their totals in the past few decades belying their original release dates in terms of adjustment. For example, Snow White has made $118,328,683 of its unadjusted $184,925,486 total since 1983.

Now people are justifying Frozen going into World Showcase because it will appeal to kids. So? Does everything have to be about kids or more specifically mostly girls?

Not that that would really matter in our case. DS enjoyed Epcot at every age so it is possible for kids to have fun doing something that doesn't involve princesses.

Frozen IS popular. No doubt. We can debate all day whether it was a good movie or a meh movie.

I just don't think it has ANY business replacing Norway in World Showcase. Maybe we'll get "lucky" and it will be something like the characters guiding us on a tour of Norway...REAL Norway.

#100 Monsters Inc. $402,241,400 1989 Meet and Greets, as well as an attraction at DCA..

Actually, most of these movies have been represented at some point in the parks...Bambi is really the only movie on there with very little presence ever in the parks.

I do agree that Frozen should have a place in the parks, but as the quoted poster said..not in world showcase!!

"You are not the first to pass this way, but you may be the last!" I hope this doesn't happen either, it would completely go against the whole concept of World Showcase, it is just not the place

Domestic analysis only - adjusted for inflation...

Average ticket price in 1994 - $4.18
Average ticket price in 2013 - $8.13

The Lion King - $726,543,300 = 173,814,186 tickets sold
Frozen - $400,738,009 = 49,291,268 ticket sold

That is a difference of 124,522,918 domestic tickets sold. That is 124.5 MILLION MORE TICKETS SOLD!!!. If you want to get technical, The Lion King was released again in 3D in 2011 so that adds about 8 million tickets to it's total sold. But then Frozen was released with a 3D version in it's initial release. Lets just call that a wash (although it still favors LK ticket sales).

So based on the above...should we expect a Lion King ride taking over the African Outpost next? :scared1: (not that there is anything wrong with that)

The last time I checked we have FOTLK and some M&G to represent The Lion King. Frozen has the doubled up M&G in that Princessy place that replaced Snow White, a fireworks show, a sing-a-long, a skating rink and a place to buy all things Frozen.

Personally, I would rather have a Wall-E attraction in Tomorrowland. It teaches a good message and has a positive vibe to it. Unless of course you can't look past that whole gliding around life while slurping your lunch thing.

#48 Bambi

maybe they could put Bambi running across Test Track during the brake test !!

I love WS but I also think it is very low on culture and high on gift shop and food and liquor sales. I think that if people are considering WS an educational experience, they need to get out of the country more and go and experience real culture.

Bottom line is, people just do not like change of any kind.

It used to do a much better job of disguising it.

Tapestry of Nations/Dreams anyone? *sigh*

Welcome to reality now.

Was there an outcry when the Remy animatronic showed up in Chefs? Nope. It actually drew more people to the restaurant in the hopes to see the interaction. Yeah....he's gone now.

Bottom line...they changed it.
