Northwest Airlines Alcohol Policy

I will be flying on Northwest Airlines for the first time this spring. Usually on the way down, I like to begin my vacation celebration with a drink while in flight.

I know they allow you to carry on food and beverages for consumption during the flight. I also know you can carry on most liquor, as long as it is less than 5 liters and below 140 proof.

I have a couple of those airline sized bottles of whiskey at home, in their original packaging and unopened. Does anyone know if I can carry on those small bottles for consumption during the flight? Or do they have a policy that all alcohol consumed on board must be purchased from the beverage cart?

As a follow up question, does anyone know how much Northwest charges for liquor?

Don't make a big deal out of it and once the FA has given you you pop or whatever you use to mix, just add your alcohol of choice. They don't have to see what you put in your cup. By no means am I a lush, but I don't see why it would be a problem. If I weren't traveling with kids, I would be sure to have a few myself!!

Technically, it is against federal air regulations to consume any alcoholic beverages not served by a flight attendant. The risk of getting caught serving your own liquor probably is pretty low, however, I'd be hesitant to take even a minimal risk of getting arrested or detained just to save the $5 on a cocktail. Given how security can be these days, you never know when you might get a flight attendant who decides to call you on it.

I agree, I'd just spend the extra $1-2 over what those little bottles you already have cost, and get it from the FA. Not worth the potential hassle if you get caught. Save the little bottles for your resort room
