Now that Jackie and Monica have canceled this cruise, is there anyone else that is thinking about leaving our group?

You really don't think that means you get rid of me, right??? :lmao:

I will keep being a part of the thread & of course once I get back in May will share my thoughts (send me any ?s you may have - I'll start a list so that I can make sure I get the answers).

Luckily I DO get to see a good number of you on the Tortola cruise this September.

I figured you might. Hopefully you won't because you'll never get to be on the 1st DCL cruise to the Baltics again! I figure if they offer a special it will be like the TA in 2007. Cat 12s were offered for a very cheap price. It would be nice if they just lowered the prices of all the cabins!

You never know....I could always come back if DCL comes up with a kick a$$ rate for the Cat 12 :lmao:

This would be 14 nights, no before or after, or airfares. The cost of this cruise is about $3300 more for the same stateroom than the PC(cruise only) and for 3 days less. I understand about the ports, but as Monica has found out you can do those at a lesser cost. I think we all think that we would prefer DCL though and obviously up till now we were prepared to pay that premium.

BELIEVE ME....If I could get DCL at the price I got for this April (or even for what I saw on NCL for same time as DCL) - I'd go w/ DCL. I really want to see these ports tho, and w/ DCL's cost I just couldn't do it.

I sometimes wonder if the reason other cruise lines are so much cheaper is that they feel they will make up the revenue in the casinos? One of the reasons I like DCL is that they don't have a casino.

I'm one of those cat 12 wannabes.. I've informed my TA that if they offer the discount to jump all over it. I'm already booked in a cat 11 and there is only 2 of us, so if I downsize, it won't bother me too much.

I don't want to cancel, so I'm hoping my savings works out.

That's an interesting thought....I never thought about it as that doesn't matter to me. I'll have to see what I think of the ship & then decide if I'll do another cruise line again.

Definately NOT packed :rotfl: Still trying to figure out what I'm doing :lmao:

Can you remind me of your May dates, please? Need to write it in the calendar :thumbsup2

Maybe us too.....but we won't be making any decisions on it until the end of the year. I really hope we don't cancel but my hubby has not been keen on the price since I booked it as compared to other cruise lines it is so overpriced!

You can tell me all about Warnemunde in September.:thumbsup2

That is why the price is more. Ships with a casino make about 50% of their money from the gambling. So double the price of the other cruise lines and DCL is not so far out of the ball park.

Had a good long chat w/ someone at work today who's been to Germany several times.

I mentioned Warnemunde & the 2 1/2-3 hr train ride to get into Berlin-and that the shore ex would probably be about 12 1/2 hrs (using other cruise line shore excursions as a guide).....she said that if SHE were the one doing the cruise, SHE would not take an excursion into Berlin - not for the time nor the $ (again using other cruiseline prices....most btwn $200-300). She said that Berlin is very industrial & cold. Another co worker came in at that point & agreed w/ her.

SO - I think I'll may saving Berlin (& $) and checking out what Warnemunde has to offer.

Just wanted to let you guys know.....maybe some of you guys have been there and can give other points of view.

Of course I just found this on another thread...

I did the Berlin train trip this past summer as part of a NCL cruise. While it was a long day, I consider it well worth my time. I also am a history buff and in particular am very interested with WWII and Cold War history. Even though I only had about 6 hours on the ground in Berlin, I was able to see most of the major sites in the central area that needed to be seen. I am healthy and a fast walker, so I just booked on foot between the locations. I'm not bashing those who choose to skip this method of visiting Berlin, but for those of you who have the interest, it's well worth the effort. Some day I hope to get back for a longer visit.

So know I don't what I'm going to do :rotfl:

I know it will be a long day, but I just can't see passing up the opportunity to see Berlin, especially when I don't know if I'll ever get that chance again.

My husband and I will definitely be on this cruise (not sure about the friend) although we surely wouldn't turn down any discounts offered to us! We did the Trans Atlantic cruise in 2007 but arrived and jumped right on the ship. I'm not familiar with booking before and after cruise stays. I noticed some are already booking or looking for the hotels. How far ahead do you have to reserve rooms? My husband's dream is to start in DLP, cruise, then a stay in London, then fly home. Don't know if that can really happen but am wondering how soon we have to book rooms. Any help would be much appreciated.

With an 8yo we will be skipping Berlin. Too much traveling in one day. I'm sure we will enjoy the port town and surrounding areas doing our own thing.;)

Emily - I agree with this thought too....that's why I'm so torn!

I will have a 12 year old so we will be skipping Berlin also. I think we will stay pretty close to the ports and try not to venture too far.
