Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

Good Morning Cruisers!

Quick check in here, I see that planning is going nicely!

Nice day here, we are still getting afternoon showers, but that is the general summer forecast.

Have a great day all!

We just decided to use Disney Transportation to and from the airport. The plan is to arrive a few days in advance to tour London. Since we have Starwood points, there are only 2 options and one is near the airport, so we just may stay there and just get back to the airport to travel to the port.

I really need to get going on this planning!!

Me Too, but it appears that I can't book the flights until August 1 and our post-cruise DLP hotel can't be booked until late next month. I guess that I can book the one night in Dover now if I contact the hotel directly, but I haven't got around to it.

#1This is my first cruise in GTY status and I'm really anxious:eek: We're in cat 4 and I love the extra room but I really don't want to be under the pools or the ping pong tables. I'm seriously considering doing a cat 5 GTY because I don't think there are any really bad rooms on Deck 7. Does Disney assign rooms as people cancel or do they wait until the last minute and draw names out of the hat?

#2 Anyone know when the DCL tranportation will leave the hotels for the ship? I'm thinking there will be excursions in London/and or Dover like there were in Barcelona, but I think we might want to do things on our own. Thanks for your help.

We're normally on deck 8 (suite splurge) and we've never noticed any noise from deck 9 above. Both times we've been on deck 8 we've been aft, near the Mickey pool, the soda machine and Topsiders'. Unless you're just extremely sensitive to noise I really don't think you'll notice anything. I would just keep the Cat. 4 for your extra space.

I don't know about when the transportation will be leaving the hotels. I hope they'll be leaving early, but I know when you use DCL transportation at WDW they don't leave until after 11, putting you at the port after boarding has started.

I don't think we're going to have extra time in England before or after the cruise,so I think we'll take Disney air and transportation both ways. have never done it, so it might be an experience!:rolleyes1

I'm hoping we'll go to DLP so we need to go to Paris via the Chunnel. I'm pretty sure the Chunnel's entrance on the England side is pretty close to Dover.

Depends if you are going by car or Eurostar as foot passengers.
You can board the train with car quite close but need to get to Ashford for Eurostar as foot passengers for Paris.

Skallywag's right - the "Chunnel" train is for cars/ lorries and leaves from Folkestone rather than the Eurostar passenger train which you can catch from London or Ebbsfleet or for direct services to DLP from Ashford. Both Folkestone and Ashford are close to Dover though.

Exciting to be getting down to nitty gritty details about travel plans .... us .... we'll be hopping in the car, driving just down the road and walking onto the cruise ship ;) Well thats the plan anyway!

Good Morning Cruisers!

Nice day here in Cheyenne! Been for the morning dog walk, and now working on my coffee!

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning Cruisers!

It looks like Scott got you all up to date on our travel plans so far - that is how we spent our day yesterday! I spend several hours researching Barcelona hotels, we will spend 1 or 2 nights - depending on train schedules - in Barcelona before getting on the ship. It was a fun way to spend the day.

Looks like rain here today, I already got my walk in with the dogs, just need to get the lawn mowed before it starts raining - but it is still too wet now.

Have a great day everyone!

We took the overnight train 2 years ago when we went on the Med cruise. You get into the train station by 7am so you can have a full day of sightseeing easy. The hop on hop off bus was great. Of course my DH wasted 1/2 the day by napping. Have fun planning. I am just starting to look at everything.

We did have the sleeper car and we bought the 1st class tickets. We also had dinner and breakfast in the dining car. It was a pretty neat experience that our kids really enjoyed.

I am trying to use my new iPhone to write this. Sounds like plans are being made by everyone.:cheer2:

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL THE DAD'S!!!

Do you know we'll be in Stockholm on this date in 2010?!!!!!!

One question I've come up with is about disembarkation - and catching a flight that afternoon.... I really hadn't thought about it - but is it really smart to try and catch a flight in the early afternoon after we've dismbarked? I'm concerned about the distance to Heathrow, traffic, customs, etc....

Any thoughts?
