Northern Italy & Switzerland

We debated this trip versus Greece, and decided on Greece. But afterward, I would like to follow in the footsteps of this ABD for a week or so after. What's the best way to get from the Milan airport, to Stresa, to Zermatt and then to Luzern? Trains will seem to do it, but I've got a family of four, including a 9 year old in tow. Also, how were the hotels? I've thought of staying in the same hotels as the ABD. Thanks for any help.

The distance between Stresa and Zermatt is pretty far. The trip entails long bus rides. Once in Zermatt, you get off outside the city and take their electric cabs. They are trying to maintain the city pristine so there are no gas powered vehicles in the area. Leaving Zermatt, you take a train to the bus depot and then another long bus ride to Lucerne. We made a lunch stop in Andermatt and then the bus ride takes you to the Furka car transport. The mountain pass is very scenic, lots of winding roads and interesting bridges. I thought the hotels were really nice when we did the trip especially the Grand Hotel Zermatterhoff.
