We are interested in sailing on the 7-night Northern Europe itinerary in August 2018 departing from Copenhagen. We have previously sailed twice on the Dream in a Deluxe Family Stateroom with Verandah and are booked in the same category on the Fantasy later this year.

The price on the Northern Europe cruise is fairly steep. What do you think about an inside stateroom? Are we going to go nuts after being in a larger room with a verandah? Do you think having a porthole or verandah is worth the extra money on this itinerary? For those who sailed on this itinerary before, how much time did you spend sitting on your verandah or looking out your porthole?

I did a Northern European cruise on DCL in June 2015. The only time I recall being on the veranda looking out for an extended period was when we went under one of the longest/tallest suspension bridges in the world, after dinner. We passed some great scenery leaving Stockholm, but although we had a veranda, I went out on Deck 4 to get a wider view. My thinking is that having a veranda is useful, but there is plenty of space on the outside decks for you to see the sights if you want to save money by getting an inside room.

I dI'd Northern Europe cruise on an inside room, with all the money I saved I book great tours.

I really like the Veranda, although my wife wouldn't necessarily spring for the extra cost if it was up to her. That being said, we usually get the lower-cost categories (7A - 5C, as available) which save a little money, but not as much as one would save with an inside or port-hole cabin. We save $$'s by planning tours on our own and eschew Disney's excursions, and we don't drink alcohol . . . so each to their own.

Highlights of the Veranda for me on Northern Europe include:
* sailing out of Stockholm through the archipelago and waving to various people on the islands and small watercraft
* waking up in Helsinki harbor and looking across the channel at the other ships and the city
* misc. mornings and sunsets watching the Baltic/Northern sea and sky
* passing by various islands on the starboard side and, with my binoculars, wondering if they were parts of Germany or Poland or wherever.

The Veranda was superfluous, as I spent time on Deck 10:
* as we went through the archipelago INTO Stockholm - amazing!
* during our "sail-away," as we left Dover.
* as we went under the bridge between Denmark and Sweden. I think we did this in two directions (the back-side of the bridge, don't you know!?).

There wasn't much to see in St Petersburg as we were docked far away from the city.
And the view from the Veranda in Copenhagen and Tallin wasn't significant either.

We did this cruise last year in an oceanview category 9C on deck 2. We were almost never in our room, and I don't recall spending any meaningful amount of time looking out our porthole.

For what it's worth, deck 2 was a really nice place to be for this cruise in particular. The gangways for all of the ports were on deck 1. When we came dragging back to the ship after a full day of sight-seeing, it was great just being able to walk up one flight of stairs and being right at our door (we were in 2112 - just off the aft elevator lobby).

You will love this cruise!

We are on the Northern Europe in May this year. We're in an inside. We've only sailed inside or ocean view, we're happy in an inside this time, the extra cash will pay for the St Petersburg excursions!!
