Yep, everyone's at the Holiday Inn Express, Gateshead- just beside the Metro Centre.

If anyone else wants to join us and needs a room, please e mail Astrid and she'll make the booking arrangements for you - the hotel was full when we got there last year.

Matt and I would like to come. Keep meaning to e-mail Astrid, but I've been a bit busy preparing for this trip! Maybe I'll do it now.

Hi,

Just looking into the viability of attending the Northern Meet Shindig.

I was thinking of travelling up by train from Stockport. Can anyone tell me which railway station I should be aiming for??

Hi Sue,

You would have to come into Newcastle Central Station. Then some nice person would pick you up and get you to the hotel.

Deb and Sue, that would be great if you can make it. Please let Astrid know asap if you need rooms as the Hotel filled up before we got there last year . I've just looked on the hotel website and there seems to be rooms available and Astrid's got us a really good 'group rate'.

Deb and Matt are the latest to sign up for our sour....swou....swar...party and are stayin over the Satdy night.

Rick and Heather are unable to join us due to work commitments - yer'll be saldy missed, mates. See yers at Shields, if not before.

I would've loved to come to put faces to names but finally it's our turn to be you know where!!! We'll be away from Nov 13 - 30th but when you have another jolly planned please let me know :p

Love Lisa x

Well if there's one place I'd rather be it would be Orlando when the Northern meet takes place...............oh but wait...............................I'll be going the week after..................... oh well I guess that'll have to do.

Yes I know I'm showing off but I figure I just have to be myself on the boards and that's what I am a showoff :p :p :p :p

and a lovely one too, Sam :)

Lisa, the next Beach Party will be at South Shields, July 26th and 27th 2003. Early bookins recommended!

Getting just a little excited now!!!

I think this is gonna be the best shindig yet!

There’s quite a crowd arriving on the Friday so we’re looking forward to a good old natter before the main even ‘proper’

We thought it best to leave Satdy afty ‘loose’ to allow folk to arrive at different times and give everyone the chance to visit The Metro Centre for Chrimbo shoppin or just soak up the pre-festive atmosphere. The fact that me and the kids are at the match is nowt to do with it !

We thought if everyone does their own thing (feel free to arrange to meet in the Metro Centre for drinks/coffee etc) and feed themselves (there’s a varied ‘menu’ available at MC) before returnin to the hotel, it would make life easier for all concerned. We’ll be runnin Asda’s best American Hot Dogs all night for them that get peckish.

Plan is for us all to convene in the function room at HIE for 6pm – the room can be opened earlier if yer ‘home’ sooner. We’ll have drinks and chats and have quizzes planned to ‘break-up’ the evening – Astrid’s got one of her ‘specialty’ quizzes (toys, I think) and a music quiz, Nigel, Gail and Jonny have provided a general Orlando quiz (and will be sadly missed in person(s)) and V and Julie are providing a ‘Where in the World’ quiz (but haven’t started yet!).
I’ve got the lend of a mate’s Karaoke system for the weekend so a little sing song’s planned for around 11ish. The best way to avoid me rendition of ‘I can’t help fallin in love with you’ and ‘The green, green grass of home’ is to get up yerselves or go to bed!

The dispersal to all corners of UK on Sunday morning is a bit varied, so if we ‘do’ anything on Sunday it’ll be agreed amongst us on Friday/Satdy. If anyone wants to go to The Quayside for the market and to see The Millennium Bridge, I’m sure we can arrange an appropriate shuttle of cars.

We (The Committee) will be havin our traditional Sunday Night Currry at The Brasserie, Ocean Road, South Shields – coz we’re sad and it’s tradition! If yer in the neighbourhood, yer welcome to join us.

The HIE has kindly allowed us to bring in our own food and drinks for the Saturday so I’ll be doin a beer, pop and crisps run for anyone that wants it on the Satdy morning. (Mail me yer order and I’ll get it for yers) The hotel has an all-day bar but it’s typically hotel priced. They do a very nice deal on refillable tea/coffee for them that’s interested (£1.50, last year).

So that’s it, except to wish yers all a safe journey to the frozen North. There’s still room for any that want to join us and any ‘locals’ that want to pop in just for the Satdy night (or Sunday curry) are more than welcome.

Not long to go now!! :bounce:

I'll do an e-mail to all who've booked rooms in the next couple of days to re-confirm reference numbers etc.

I'll be there on the Friday around 1 or 2 - quizzes in hand!

Sam - I'm only singing if you are!!!

See you all soon!

What! No one said nuffink about singing! OMG

LOL - sounds like it gonna be great fun and I cant wait.

:D :D :D :D :D

OK so this is what I imagine:

Me, Deb, Astrid, Angel and Bev as the Spice Girls

Janice and Shirley as them 2 bints from Abba - LOL ;);)

Don't you think DaveSD would make a great Gene Pitney ;)

I was trying to think of something for Matt and Paul (never get him up there in a bunch of Sundays) and then I thought if I added Deb and myself we could be the Mammas and Pappas........ I have way too much time on me hands LOL :):)

Seriously I think we should say here and now that no-one will be forced to sing...it's just for fun :)

. . . which is just as well if Darryl gets up doing Bohemian Blooming Rhapsody . . . it'll empty the hotel - no, make that the road - in seconds :p :p :p :p (love you, darling;) ).

I ain't singing cos I've done that before and everyone laughed. I've got some dead cooool karaoke CD's my SIL sent over from Hong Kong after we did a "proper" karaoke with them in the Philippines (if you've not done one in the Philippines, you've not lived . . . it's their national pastime and they all have gorgeous voices, not fair).

Ah, I can see next weekend is going to live in the memories of the brave, hardy souls who trek up there for a lonnnnnnng time - and I'm not promising a better score of 51/100 on the Disney quiz, either (I've even tried bribing me mate Astrid over coffee today, but she's a tough cookie;) ;) ). Remembering our week there 3 weeks ago's just gonna make me even more depressed:rolleyes: .

Stop Press

Just tried to ring the Holiday Inn Express to book another couple of rooms for next weekend and they are now fully booked. :(

Annie - Now, if you'd have bribed me with that yummy chocolate cake it may well have worked!

Sam - So which Spice Girl am I?!! Certainly not Sporty Spice that's for sure!! ;)

Astrid x

:earseek: :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

...... what's going on here then  ??? A girl can't turn her back for a minute round here!
Abba??? Abba??? I can't speak for Janice but I don't 'do' Abba !!!!!! Not my sort of music :smooth:
LOL!! Really looking forward to it Dave :) ! Sam... we need to talk :teeth:

Gene Pitney???????

Mind you .............

hang on...............

........" 24 hours from Tu..l..sa!!!".......:smooth:

well maybe ;)

And "No" no-one will be forced up- I think we'll have enough exhibitionists to keep the shy and sensible happy. :jester:

I thought a bottle of whiskey might help loosen the vocal chords.

Dave you mention whiskey ...... after last year!
Dont worry a bottle will be winging its way down with us again, just dont expect us to sing.
The problem is too many to choose from!!!
We should be down between 6 & 7 all being well.
Oh and remember to keep the booby prize for the pop quiz for us as well.
