North vs. the South, What do y'all Think?

Okay, so how do y'all think a family born and bred in the north would fare if we were to move south? We had a brief sojourn of about 10 years divided among Hawaii, California and Pennsylvania, otherwise, strictly born 'n bred in Wisconsin.

The past few years we've vacationed in Tennesse, the Carolinas and Florida (with a pop-up camper).

We think we'd really like to relocate. Are we in for a culture shock? I mean, I put sugar on grits, am I doomed???

But I LOVE Gone with the Wind, am I saved?

I'm orginally from Superior, WI and have become an adopted native of Florida. Oh, by the way I don't even go near the grits, but I do say soda instead of pop!

no more than the culture shock I experienced moving from Southern California to New England. I remember looking at all of the shoes...it was spring when I went to look at colleges...and feeling so sorry (!!!???) for the girls...they all had such ugly boots on. Everyone looked very, very pale, too. Couldn't understand what half of the people said...they had to repeat slowly for me, the accent was so strong. And what was with their use of, "wicked?"

Didn't take long until I adjusted...even bought a few pair of boots and shoes I never would have bought in California...and I think they are cute! I began to love the lack of tan-pressure, too. I even married a man with the accent. Although I think my influence is softening it...or maybe I'm just used to it now.

Good luck to you if you move! I'm sure some things will be different for you, but its such an adventure! The south has some beautiful areas.

I don't like grits (even though I've lived in Georgia all my life ), but I've always thought people put sugar on them.

The south is definately a different world sometimes. I grew up 32 miles from where I live now and I still get "you're not from around here are you?".

How do you order your tea?

I've lived in Alabama all my life and I have never but sugar on my grits that ruins them. Lots of butter. Now people sayiing that they live in Florida even though it is in the southern region of the country it really isn't the south. Too many Northerns there. My mother grew up in another part of the state and my parents have lived in the same town for over 40 years and they still think of her as an outsider. Small towns in the south are very close which is both good and bad. I wouldn't want to move back to my old hometown living 30 miles away is close enough.

And BTW I am not normal in that I like my tea unsweet.

We moved away, then after 10 years moved back to my hometown. I know what they mean about you can't go home. So, I'm getting really antsy to move. I figure getting closer to WDW has got to be a good thing.

As far as tea, well, uhm, see, it's like this............ I don't drink tea, but I drink Diet Coke? I suppose I'll stand out for sure.
