North To Alaska--May 3, 2011 on the Disney Wonder

Holly, the pools are heated, so getting IN them won't be a problem, just gettiing OUT! :lmao:

If I do nothing to prep for the trip this weekend...that leave 5 weekends before departure. Need to start plotting out what needs to be done each weekend so nothing is left to the last minute.

ULG, just looked in the mirror...hair color THIS weekends so I can do it again right before the trip. Those pesky grey hairs! Maybe a little on-line shopping too, in case anything needs to be returned/replaced.

Well, there you go....guess I have stuff to attend to right now!

Oh, and don't forget THE MEGA FULL MOON TONIGHT!

.

Probably due to schools still being in session and early in the season. Folks we know that have sailed Alaska have asked us why we're going in May, too cold.
Bob
When I was in Alaska in 2004 there was heat wave :confused3...it was 90 degrees every day! Granted it was in June, but I was told that May was also unseasonably warm. I was very happy for the shorts I had packed! I also have been watching the average temps...I suggest we have to have clothing for a wide spectrum of temps and weather!

KEWL:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I really don't think May will be too cold, after the winter most folks have had.
I am so all over that! It is 25 at night and 75 during the day...good grief!

I was going to say it was up to you, but I see that there are actual guidelines! Just be aware that some cabins have unrelated people sharing a room (like Padalyn - Cayla), and those folks sometimes appreciate duplicates if FE gift is "collectable" or "scrapbook-able".
Thank you Lynn - I appreciate your mentioning this...I know we are not the only folks that are travel companions only!!

dry suit too heavy
HUH????? My drysuits TOGETHER do not weigh the same as my wetsuit! I have a 3mil wetsuit, and my drysuits are both very light....not insulated....so I have to wear insulation under either of them. Take a look at white water rafting gear...but I think we have had this disussion, right?

Oh, and don't forget THE MEGA FULL MOON TONIGHT!

.
oh yea...no way is that happening! I got my *** kicked last night at work....no break, super sick people...go glad I am off tonight!

I am in the final push of my renvation!!! WOO HOO!!! The kitchen is done (except for the tile, I am hoping that the new order will be here by April 1), all the cabinets restocked...and it looks awesome! All the painting is done, I am now putting everything away...whew...

NOW I CAN FOCUS on my cruises!!! 25 days and counting!!!

Cool! I'd always thought the pools were not heated since they always went places where that was not needed, just assumed the ships were made for warm weather climates. :thumbsup2 It sure was too told to swim when we got close to CA on my last cruise, the water was super cold, so I just assumed it would be that way this time.

The pools on the ship are heated in they fall below 75 degrees (according to the website). Besides, I think there are plenty of options for other activities (seven cruises and I have yet to check out the pools).

You have more patience than I do, I could not last 3 years between cruises without going thru DCL withdrawal. :lmao:

The pools are the big draw for my son, so that's what we do most. Glad to know they're heated. Wasn't going to pack swimsuits, but now I suppose we should. :thumbsup2

Believe me, I didn't enjoy waiting 3 years, but had no choice! I kept trying! :goodvibes

I've been MIA, but I'm back and getting ready for cruise!

I think I am on the FE list, but if not, please add us:

Linda (seaulater) and adult daughter Jamie and I think we are in stateroom 5022.

Thanks!

Cool! I'd always thought the pools were not heated since they always went places where that was not needed, just assumed the ships were made for warm weather climates.

... and DCL is one of the few (if not, the ONLY cruise line) that uses FRESH water in their pools (in lieu of salt / sea water). :thumbsup2

WE ARE NEARING THE DEADLINE

REMINDER: We have arranged for deluxe motorcoach to transport us (and hoards of luggage) DIRECTLY to the San Pedro cruise port, on the morning of April 27th. We will NOT need to go back to the airport, merely to board another shuttle to the port. At only $15 per person, this motorcoach will save us time AND money!

The motorcoach will stop at a Disneyland hotel (to be determined on or about March 30, based upon our needs, etc). Most of us are either staying ON Disney property, or are a short walking distance away. If you are staying a bit further out, consider using your hotel shuttle to get you (and your luggage) to Disneyland (and hence, the motorcoach).

Most of us seem to want to get to the cruise terminal early :woohoo: ... in order to get early boarding on the ship (which means we get a LONGER CRUISE!). Accordingly, we tentatively estimate boarding the MOTORCOACH to begin at 7:45AM, with departure at 8:15AM (from the designated Disneyland hotel). In order to board upwards of 40 guests and their voluminous luggage, we would like to request that those taking the bus be in the designated meeting location (ie: designated hotel lobby), COMPLETE WITH ALL MEMBERS OF YOUR PARTY, AS WELL AS ALL OF YOUR LUGGAGE by 7:45AM. If 40 people show up at 8:15AM ... we will NOT be able to leave on time. :dance3:

The deadline for reserving your space on the motorcoach is March 30th.

AFTER March 30th, we will likely be able to add a few passengers on a *space available* basis ... at a cost of $20 per person (reserve on or before March 30th for just $15 per person).

You can reserve seats in one of three ways:

1) Send $15 per seat, via personal check to Donna Long, for receipt on or before March 30th (private message me for a mailing address).

2) Send $16 per seat, via PayPal, before March 30th. PayPal charges fees ... hence, the $16 vs $15 per seat. Send PM to me for my PayPal email address, which IS different than my main email address.

:rolleyes1 Regardless of payment method, PLEASE INCLUDE:
a) The number of people in your party
b) The name of the MAIN CONTACT person in your party along with Disboard ID
c) Current telephone number for MAIN CONTACT person (indicate day or night time contact)
d) Email address for MAIN CONTACT person
e) The name of EACH person in your party
f) The name of your California hotel (Grand Californian, Paradise Pier, Marriott, etc)
g) A cell phone number (to call on the morning of April 27th, in case of issues with the bus location).

3) Requests for reservations on or after April 1st can be made via option #1 or #2, at a cost of $20 per person. For those attempting to make reservations while we are in Disneyland (April 23rd, or thereafter), we will accept cash payments in person (exact change please).

If you need to reach us in Disneyland (beginning April 23rd), please contact Paradise Pier Hotel, (714) 999.0990, and ask to be connected to our room (Steven & Donna Long). Please leave your name, as well as hotel and cell phone numbers, and will will try to reach you ASAP.

Your seat will NOT be reserved until payment, and the aforementioned requested information has been received (and funds received).

Thank you,
Steven and Donna Long

Are you a diver? I am bringing mine because I am going diving. The two dive shops I am using warned me that the water temp will be in the mid to low 40's:cold: But I am ready for it. In two weeks I am finishing up my rescue and by the time we leave i will have my Master Diver Status.

HH weather gear - check, Sou wester hat check:thumbsup2 prob overkill but if I pack it the weather will be great. If not will be ready for the gales that may blow, if they do - do I want a wet suit for the wave pool, dry suit too heavy

The 75 didn't sink in until hours later. It just popped into my head, did that really say only 75? So I had to go back and check. Yikes! That's COLD. The pool at our YMCA is kept at 85 and that's chilly. So I'll stay dressed and watch from the side while the kid swims, LOL! ;) But if he's in the pool happy, I can be happy with a drink poolside relaxing. :goodvibes We'll be super happy campers! :woohoo:

Personally i think the DCL pools are freezing cold, but I am a wimp when it comes to cold water, yes i wear a dry suit in the Caribbean

I think I am looking forward to the Train/bike ride excursion the mostest.

Sunrise/sunset tables printed, sky chart printed, check and check.

Yesterday got the electronic gear together, GPS- check, camera - check, Video Camera - check, chargers for all - Check, binoculars - check, travel power strips- check, some clothes gathered - check, HD for pic backup - Check.

Hi Everyone

This is the list for free custom lanyards and name badges for everyone
in your cruise group. Please take a close look at your listing and PM
me if I've made a spelling error, left someone off, wrong cruise, or if you are no longer
going on one of these cruises. Please PM me if you would rather have a different
version of your name on the badge (nickname, etc.).

PLEASE REVIEW YOUR LISTING AND PM ME IF IT IS CORRECT!
A * before your listing means your have verified the names and you are good to go - you do not have to respond.

It's very important that I hear from people on the "not confirmed" list.
I don't want to leave anyone out and I want to make sure that the names are correct!
So if you are on the "not confirmed" part of the list, please let me know if the listing is correct.

GETTING YOUR LANYARDS AND NAME BADGES
If your name is on this list (except for those on the "not confirmed" list), I have a name badge and lanyard for you. Please make an effort to pick them up.

Name badges and lanyards will be available at the following locations:

In Los Angeles:
At the terminal - I will get there fairly early - you will have to play "Where's Ken" to find me. It probably won't be to difficult - just ask the people with the special lanyards and name badges.

On Deck 10 - Starboard side (that's the ride side of the ship) - overlooking the Goofy pool from 2:30 to 3:30pm - if it's raining, I will move to the Promenade Lounge.

If we can't connect in these places, you will have to call me in room 6584 and make arrangements for pickup.

I will be giving out two sets of lanyards and name badges in Los Angeles for those doing the B2B!

In Vancouver:
Because I'm on the Repo, I cannot guarantee that I will be in the terminal at Vancouver. Therefore, I will be in the Promenade Lounge from 2:30 to 3:30.

If we can't connect at that time, you will have to call me in room 6584 and make arrangements for pickup.

When I did the Kitt Peak night obs program last month I picked up an awesome (powerful) laser pointer like the guy doing the program had. It should be great for pointing out some stars. And I picked up a smaller version of my star chart at my local latitude and another for the northern latitudes. Now if I can just locate those...wonder if they are still in my carry on? :)

Hi all! Can I join you? This will be our first Alaskan cruise and we are so excited!!!!:banana::banana:

Did you just book or just found us? If you have any questions, just ask. Some of us have been there before (Alaska) and almost all of us have been on DCL.:cool1:

42 days to go!!!

Up for some diving? The shops I have booked are looking into how to attract divers but are very careful on who they take. One of the first things they asked me is am I advanced and if I have a dry suit and certified to use it. they will not even take anyone if they do not have those two. I am hoping to have my DM by the end of the year.:thumbsup2

Yep a PADI Instructor (MSDT 161292) and Lynn is a DM . Congrats on the Master Diver, Rescue Class is my favorite.

Would it be possible to post the fish extender list in one central location and only update it there rather than making changes and then reposting it? That way there is one place to get all the most current info without having to look back through posts and hope you found the most recent one? Also, do we have a hard cut off date of when no more cabins will be added? or has it already passed? With just a little over a month before the trip (we're B2B), it's really time to knuckle down and figure out what we're going to get for fish extenders...but before we do, we want to make sure we have a reasonably accurate count so we can get the right amount of stuff!

Hi Erik!

I did a super duper list a bit back with links to a lot of lists. CLICK FOR SUPER LIST I can also put the link to the Alaska FE on the main page of the REPO thread if that would help???

I just updated the main Repo Thread with the FE Lists for Both the REPO and the ALASKA cruise. Hope this helps!

What Shops?, as it sounds like their priorities are right.

Prob no Diving this trip as just too much to get together, work is eating 60 hours plus a week and we are getting ready for a Metric Century Bike Ride.

There are some great dive shops in the seattle area.
