We will be spending a long weekend next month in North Redington Beach. Group will be 3 generations, including 4 adults and 3 children ages 5-11. Looking for suggestions of things to do or see, as well as places to eat, while there. I’m looking for ideas relatively close by so we aren’t spending all of our time in the car. We are interested in doing a dolphin cruise, but not sure which one. Or if we should try to book a private one? All suggestions appreciated! Thanks!

When we went we loved Frog Pond for breakfast. Hubby still talks about it. We ate at Conch Republic on two different occasions for dinner. Very crowded but we enjoyed the food. At the Doubletree Beach Resort they have a tiki bar where you can get drinks and food right on the beach. We took a day trip to Lowry Park Zoo, we went to the beach at Fort Desoto, trip into Clearwater for dinner and a walk on the pier. Shopped and ate at St. Johns Pass. Spent a day at Busch Gardens. My husband and son also went to a baseball game in Tampa one evening. Also a boat trip to Caladesi (sp?) Island. I'll come back if I can think of anything else.

Caladesi Island is the one mentioned above. Lovely park, but primitive, so if you have folks who are mobility-impaired it might not be the best option. Caladesi is essentially a full-day excursion. Ft. deSoto is also very interesting and nice for outdoor activites, especially if you like to kayak or fish (there are live-bait vending machines on the pier!), but it's a bit of a distance from Redington; it's all the way down past Tierra Verde, at the very base of the Pinellas peninsula.

Play some mini-golf after dinner; the courses in the area are kitschy and great fun (hot in daytime, best at night.) Look at Groupon for activities in Redington and nearby beach communities; there are always deals on offer.

This isn't a "local" activity, but be sure to bring some kites (if not, there is a great kite shop in the John's Pass market, but it's pricey). That's a good beach for kite flying this time of year, and you have never actually flown a kite until you've done it on a beach at sunset. It's a very nice evening activity for the kids while the adults socialize.
