North Carolina

Looks like I may be going Labor Day weekend too! Just couldn;t resist that free dining! Mapquest is saying between 8 and 9 hours from my mom's house(Dunn) to Pop Century, but I remember the delays on I-4 last time I drove. Is there a way around Orlando to Disney? Maybe a toll road?

Marsha

Dunn isn't far from my house, I'm 20 mins north of Dunn (I-95). We leave about 3:15-3:30 am and only stop 2-3 quick times and get to Pop about 12:15 pm. We don't run into no toll roads. It's just I-95 south then to I-4.

We're going in August too and driving up and back on Sat. Is there usually a lot of traffic on Sat? I know we're planning on leaving Ral at 4:00 am on the way down but on the way back we will probably leave mid afternoon.

Luckily when I went down for Memorial Day weekend I got a great deal on a flight. Now that it is just me I prefer to fly but hope the prices don't keep going up so much. I just don't feel comfortable doing an 8 - 9 hour drive alone. In September I'm meeting up with two other ladies and we are driving down together. :goodvibes

Flying out of RDU next month....no other option for me. I HATE driving long distances (especially since I'll be the only driver), my whole time in WDW would be filled with the dread of knowing that loooonnnggg drive back was looming! LOL!

For all of you driving down before Sept...or if you have before...I just can't imagine driving the whole way from the Raleigh area in one day w/ 2 kids. Where is a good 1/2 way point?? Savannah? If you have any good (i.e. inexpensive & clean!) hotel suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Also, are there any special places you like to stop for food along the way?

Hi all! We're flying down in September out of RDU, we got a fairly decent rate with Delta. We used to drive down... it's such a looooong drive. We'd leave late at night and drive straight through. Of course by 'we' I mean my dad did the driving while the rest of us slept/complained about how bored we were! :teeth: Good luck to all of you who are driving and have a wonderful vacation!!

Born and raised in a little town called Maysville just north of Jacksonville but now live in Lumberton. We're going down July 14 and flying out of Raleigh. We usually drive but the last two trips we've flown. It's just so much quicker!!

Sidney Lowe was definitely on the 1983 championship team because Carolina won it in 1982!!! Go Heels! You can tell I also spent time in Chapel Hill at another one of those tobacco road schools, LOL!! :goodvibes Should be a great year with Roy W., Coach K., and Lowe too. Don't you just love it. :cheer2:

We're going in August, the week before our school starts. We live on an island, so it's fun to leave the tourists at my home and go drive slow in someone else's town. Not that i plan on setting foot in my car at Dis, but you get the idea. :)

We found Savannah to be a good stopping spot. We stayed at a Motel 6 in Richmond Hill that was less than 40.00 for our family of 4. Nearby there was a Denny's and Cracker Barrel, and lots of gas stations. For us, that's all you can ask for when traveling! :)

What a great thread! Moving to Greensboro July 10 :)

Happened to see this thread when I came on DIS this morning - made my day! So happy to see so many from NC hooked on the Mouse!

We stop in Jacksonville, FL. Going that extra 2 hrs early seems to make an exponential difference on when you arrive in Orlando the next day. Time is time, but I'd rather be checking in and hitting the parks ASAP and driving that extra little bit is a small price to pay. And we go from Winston-Salem, having to factor in Charlotte and Columbia traffic.

GO CANES!!!!!!:cheer2:
Cam Ward is THE MAN!!!!!! :worship:
(ROD is not far behind!)

Any bets on where we'll spot the Cup in Raleigh in the coming days???
Anyone here going to the celebration tonight at RBC? Too bad we can't have a parade around downtown, but we'll take what we can get!:woohoo:

CAROLINA HURRICANES -- 2006 NHL CHAMPS

I'm in Raleigh (Cane Country). We're driving down on Nov. 27th. We'll 'probably' leave around 7:00 AM...but you know how that goes. I'm a firm believer in "insomnia the night before WDW" though and don't really think this will be a problem. Truth be told, we'll probably leave closer to 6:30! :goodvibes Anyhoo, this is our 1st trip to WDW. Our plan (*ahem*...MY plan) is to leave as early as possible, drive commando-style ('cause we're on a mission after all. Only stopping a couple of times for gas/potty/fast-food), arrive at WDW early-evening (5:00-6:00ish?), check-in at WL, then it's over to the Poly for dinner at 'Ohana at 8:10. I have 160 days before I go! :yay:

Yippee!!! Go 'Canes!!! :dancer:

BTW: Leaving in September for "home"....staying at the POFQ for the 1st time. Can't wait!!! Already have all our plans made and have picked everywhere we are eating.

I left work early today because of the traffic on campus, everyone is very excited about the big celebration going on tonight.

You live at Oak Island?! That is such a great place. My son's class goes there each fall and the kids have a blast!
