We are planning a short trip to NC . For anyone who has visited Biltmore, is the 50.00 fee worth it?
Also looking for recommendations for a good hotel in the 125.00 price range in the area.
Are there any must sees in that area? Flying into Charlotte on points and renting a car. Looking forward to some good BQ.
Thanks

Asheville is beautiful! Yes the Biltmore is worth it, add a tour they are really neat. The mountains are breathtaking so go for a hike. Check out homeaway for rental homes.

thanks, are there any local discounts offered in the area for tickets that you know of

AAA may have discounted tickets.

I agree it's totally worth visiting.

We used the audio guides (well worth it) our first day, then when we asked about a guided tour and they gave us the second day free and 20% off the tour. We wanted to rent kayaks but the river was too high. While the hotels on site are beautiful, staying off site is much less expensive and it's very easy to get to the estate. If I were to return, I think I'd go in October when it's peak leaf season. Also, they have live entertainment in the evening, check the schedule to see if there is one that interests you. Enjoy!

I've seen it pop up on coupons.com before but don't know if it's better than their early bird online deal. We've been numerous times but always made it a day trip so I'm not sure about hotels. I would say make sure you get over to the winery for the tastings and if you get a good host you can sample quite a few flavors.

Asheville is a beautiful city, you will love it! The Biltmore is amazing and definitely worth the ticket. We also like to go downtown and visit some of the shops. There are great restaurants, too (my favorites are Tupelo Honey and Mayfel's).

Take a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway
stroll around downtown
visit the River Arts district

it is way crowded up there in the fall, beautiful, yes .. but crowded!

Is Biltmore worth it? I'd say absolutely, but that's just me. On Biltmore's site, they have a "special offerings" tab that has: $10 off advance purchase, kids free all summer, and seniors save $10. It's a day trip for me, so I don't have hotel suggestions. Make sure you stop in Lexington (between Charlotte and Asheville) for some good BBQ. ;)

I was also going to mention the kids free all summer discount. We took a bunch of teenagers (boys & girls) on the tour for free a couple of years ago. They all loved it!

I agree that the Biltmore is worth it. I would go to the winery and if you have young kids my son loved the barn with the goats and chickens. We ate at Cedric's and it was very good but pricey.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn and it was nice. It has an indoor pool and gets good ratings on Trip advisor.

We didnt eat BBQ though. We all loved Biscuit Head for breakfast.

Highly recommend behind the scenes tours. Best book Lady on the Hill. 12 Bones is where Obama likes to eat. My cousin ate there the other day. Great country cooking at reasonable price at Moose Cafe next exit after Biltmore traveling west on 40. Go left at the top of the exit and it is on the left.
